From looking at the remainder of the schedule I really only see 5 possible win; Silver Bay/Cook County, Lake of the Woods, Two Harbors, Duluth Central, and Eveleth. I really don't see any other possible wins anywhere else and I do believe that if they lose against Silver Bay tomorrow it will just snowball for this team and instead of a 5-20 season we will see at best a 2-23 season. Which it seems possible with the last four games being shut out... Let's just hope they can remember how to score. Has there been any one out as of late btw? Grades/Game Misconducts/Other Problems?

You don't have to like a coach to win, plus with Orhn, I can't see him getting picked up anywhere if this is the kind of season they have next year too. You can be the best player on one of the worst teams who will get overlooked by scouts, or you can be an above average player on the best team and they might take a look. If Orhn stays it will be huge for the program, really if any of the seniors next year left it would kill the program, but that group coming up seems like a good one that really care for the sport, I expect good things in the 2009-2010 season

The coach does need to find a way to keep the players on the team though. several are thinking about not returning for the 09-10 season simply because of the coach. most of the kids arnt having fun. some of them just want it to end. they had one close call with quiting already. and as for orhn. he just wants to play competetive hockey. he has already toured green bay and they want him. its weird how a team with as much passion as they had last year can just all of a sudden not care. At least thats what it seems like from a viewing stage.speedster22 wrote:You don't have to like a coach to win, plus with Orhn, I can't see him getting picked up anywhere if this is the kind of season they have next year too. The Admin wanted Nels out of there. Alot of the players didn't like Nels as a coach, but really I had no problem with him, I thought he did the best he could with what he had. But I also agree it's a coaches responsibility to make things more fun for the players and not as much as a job, Bird Lawson was great for that... I heard he's coaching mites or squirts now, which is unfortunate, cant imagine a Greenway Highschool team without him on the benchniper-hawkfan wrote:i dont think they minded Nels. he just got the can because of swaring?
The numbers issue, though not talked about so much in hockey (yet) is NOT unique to Greenway hockey. In Fergus Falls there were 24 mites out this year...not near enough. In the near future I forsee a lot more mergers happening.greenway1969 wrote:If they don't get their feeder program going again, it will be sooner rather than later. Enrollment continues to decline and getting commitment and drive out of kids now-a-days is a real challenge.

If you mean Grand Rapids, Mich then he should go for it, however, the orange and black probably don't have the want or need for him.Indians forever wrote:He could always go over to Grand Rapids and play...niper-hawkfan wrote:well the last i heard not many of the players care for anton. not a good note on a team that is on the verge of crashing. espically with orhn on the border of going to green bay or sticking around for his senior year.![]()

Just trying to rub Salt in the old rivalry, if there still is one there!!!PuckTime wrote:If you mean Grand Rapids, Mich then he should go for it, however, the orange and black probably don't have the want or need for him.Indians forever wrote:He could always go over to Grand Rapids and play...niper-hawkfan wrote:well the last i heard not many of the players care for anton. not a good note on a team that is on the verge of crashing. espically with orhn on the border of going to green bay or sticking around for his senior year.![]()

Just throwing this out there, Grand Rapids did have quite a long losing streak against Greenway (By far longer than the one right now) when there was alot of pride still in the program. There will always be a rivalry. If GR and Greenway were to merge they still would have GR vs G during practicesIndians forever wrote:Just trying to rub Salt in the old rivalry, if there still is one there!!!PuckTime wrote:If you mean Grand Rapids, Mich then he should go for it, however, the orange and black probably don't have the want or need for him.Indians forever wrote: He could always go over to Grand Rapids and play...![]()

Bird would have been the man for this job. all of the kids loved him and enjoyed coming to practice. he made it fun for them and he knew what he was doing too. it shouldnt even be up to the principal or super att. it should be up to the AD and the school board who the new coach is.ndirishfighting wrote:greenway had there chance to hire 2 decent guys, but no the A.D., Principal and Super Att had there triangle goin on and screwed up and hired someone that no one wants to play for or cares for.

They originally lived in Bloomington up until the oldest ,Dan, was a squirt and then they moved up to Greenway. Then they moved back to Bloomington when Dan was a Sophomore.hshckfan08 wrote:Not familiar with the iron range names, but did they move from greenway?greenway1969 wrote:I see the Faust brothers are playing for Bloomington Jefferson. That helps explain why they are so good.

I think there are major issues with the Greenway program. Numbers is the least of them (although it is an issue). Every year, the same garbage keeps coming out of there - and I'm not referring to the quality of play on the ice.greenway had there chance to hire 2 decent guys, but no the A.D., Principal and Super Att had there triangle goin on and screwed up and hired someone that no one wants to play for or cares for.
The kids don't like the coach, the parents complain about the coach, the coach gets a bad rap for swearing (Really? I hate to break it to you folks, but coaches have been swearing in the locker room since the inception of team sports!), and the whining and politics go on and on...
Four coaches in seven years... It can't be the coach every time. Time for some folks to take a good look in the mirror in that neck of the woods. The program needs some stability at the top and some positive SUPPORT or it WILL be gone in a few short years.
The same can be said for the Eveleth-Gilbert program. If these two programs don't pull themselves together soon, they will both fold and take the storied Iron Range Conference with them.

Might want to go back and look at when the last time Greenway beat Grand Rapids? I think it is pushing maybe 8-9 years.
