8. Eden Prairie Black
9. Tartan

The only problem is princeton moving up to 2 who did they beat and i didn't see any posted scores for them in this weeks issue. But i went to the Tartan Mahtomedi game and the Mahtomedi goalie was really lucky but overall it was a good game between two very good teams. How did wayzata move down and not up to number 2 and north metro moving up to 7 when i didnt see any posted scores for their team.

I would put Blaine closer to the5-6 spot.
Anoka lost to Champlin this weekend.
Andover beat Cottage Grove and Highland for the Heartbreaker Championship.
Champlin also beat Cottage Grove for 3rd in the same tournamnet, so put Champlin in, and move Cottage Grove out of the top 10. Even Buffalo deserves a look.

Of the top U12B Teams, how many do not field an A team at U12?

Princeton does not - don't have the numbers for two teams.

Pretty much any team that is outside of the metro area. The exceptions are probably Rochester and St. Cloud. Are there any others that I'm not aware of?
Don't sweat the small stuff.
It's all small stuff.

I'm looking for an impartial scouting report on the Albert Lea 12b team. I have the 97' South Select team and there are a few girls on the Albert Lea 12b team with some very gaudy stats. It would be fun to find a couple diamonds in the rough.

ie. 66 goals and 31 helper in 28 games. Anybody played against them and do you know any are 97's? You can PM if you want.

Here you go ....

12B
1. Centennial Red - one A team
this is their top tier B team based on their website definitions
2. Princeton - 12B team only
3. Wayzata Blue - one A team and two B teams
4. Mahtomedi Blue - has two 12B teams
5. Lakeville Red - Has an A team and two B teams
6. Proctor - one B team
7. North Metro - one 12B team
8. Eden Prairie Black - one A team, two B teams
9. Tartan - one B team
girl's hockey relationship with North St Paul is dead
10. Owatonna - one B team

North Metro is 5-1-1 since Jan 4th. Beat Wayzata Blue. Only loss in 2009 was a 1-0 loss to Mahtomedi Gold (other team) in a tournament game.

Tartan beat Mahtomedi Blue 1-0

Proctor* - 2 girls that are dynamite players
Alexandria* - 1 girl that could probably play on almost any varsity team
Owatonna* - Nice solid nucleus
Cloquet* - Move the puck as well as any team I've seen
New Prague* - Solid goaltending and good puck movement
Lakeville Red - Hard to imagine how good their A team is after seeing this team

*denotes 'hybrid' teams that don't field A teams
Park Rapids team beat Alexandria both times and they are probably not one of the best B teams in the state

12 A

1/29/09

1 LAKEVILLE
2 Edina Green
3 Eden Prairie
4 Wayzata
5 Burnsville
6 Mounds View
7 Cottage Grove
8 Inver Grove Heights/
South St. Paul
9 Anoka
10 Andover

oops, blaine loses to coon rapids this week 4-2, anoka beats buffalo 1-0 and andover over elk river 9-0. Blaine and buffalo still very good teams despite losses and could win the rematches. Centennial still looks like the odd man out for the L/D? 10 playoffs.

Northern Team to watch

Post by faninthecrowd »

I have been to several U12B games this year and I would say don't count the middle ranked teams just yet. I have watched Centennial & Princeton and most of the top ranked teams play and I would say the Proctor team may be the team to watch this year. They have a mixed team. There top 5 players are better then most I have seen. There struggle will be with there bottom 5 players. This may be the team to watch!
Mahtomedi looks good. I have only seen Mahtomedi once this year, but have seen the Centennial team play in a couple of tournaments and that is what I have seen. Good luck to everyone in Districts.
Hey I'm some what new to hockey, so help me out on this one. I read LPH rankings every week and see that Mahtomedi is ranked in the top three week after week and it got me thinking... Who does the rankings?

I just watched Mahtomedi Blue get beat by Red Wing 3-2 in the Winona tourney. The score wasn't a true indication of the dominance Red Wing showed on the ice. Red Wing seems to be ok, but no juggernaut mind you. They have 5-6 girls who seems to be in their first year of hockey and a third grader centering their first line who weighs 60 pounds soaking wet.

My question is, "Do these rankings really hold any weight?," and "Should we invest so much time into youth ranking if their not going to include the entire state of Minnesota?" I just hate to put so much pressure on these kids when they are out there to just have fun.

Thanks

Anyone who can guess at 12B ratings and get them right is a genius. At this level, one or two kids who have misplaced or are skating in an associatoin too small for a 12A program can change whole games. Does the kid show up? Did they have a sleepover the night before?

Nothing matters until you get to Districts, Regionals and State. Anyone who obsesses over LPH ratings doesn't really get it anyway. Don't even tell the kids where they're ranked. That stuff's for hockey parents. Just let the kids play.

The U12A rankings have been pretty good for most of the year.
Here is the latest:
1 EDINA GREEN
2 Lakeville
3 Eden Prairie
4 Mounds View
5 Wayzata
6 Anoka
7 Burnsville
8 Andover
9 Inver Grove Heights/
South St. Paul
10 Highland Central

Tough to argue any in the top 6.
Andover should be above Burnsville. Burnsville w/l has not been great the last month.
IGH/SSP should drop out. 6-6 in the last month. Would like to see North St. Paul, Champlin Park or Buffalo move in.

That's funny. I didn't even know what a LPH rating was until my daughter showed me. You only need one girl on the team to show the other and then it gets passed to everyone. The girls on our team all know where their team is ranked and they are proud and should be. Especially coming from a "smaller association"!
