I'll be a judge because I'm close to the situation. Much of what's going on out there appears to be selfishness and about how great one or two players are. Every team has players that are considered their studs. The difference in the great ones is that they are included as part of a team. Grand Rapids hockey or Duluth East Hockey or wherever you play isn't about 1 or two players, it's about numbers 1-20. Until each player plays for the kid sitting next to him, there won't be success, and it takes all of them to achieve that. The situation on this team and many teams like them throughout the state is the reliability on only a few. You're only as good as you're weakest link and I always liked Brooks' line - The name on the front is more important than the one on the back. Until the players & staff - great, good or so-so - get together and find some unity, there will be no success. If people feel the talent level is below what they expected, then the team needs to become overachievers and believe and trust each other. Whether that common ground will be found is anyone's guess, but don't lump the whole team as players that don't care, there was definitely more than one attempting to compete. As for the ones that didn't give their all, they know who they are and they'll be the ones that have to live with it.rapidsrapids wrote:Woe, don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert, but everyone who was at the game was saying the effort wasn't there, so what am I supposed to conclude? You have no idea who does and doesn't show up to play and to lump the whole team into that category is just plain wrong.
It's about the orange and black, not about just Rendle. It's about needing the whole team and teaching team unity and trusting your teammates.
Maybe one of these days the coaches will pull their heads out and see that. They are not going to win with this team trying to build it around a few players. They need to utilize every player and let them play their roles. EACH of them, not just the supposed "studs" on the team.

Perhaps I put it wrong, I guess what I meant was Sam seems to have to burden an uneven amount of the load to make things happen. Just what I saw in the game I watched, and seems to be what everyone else has been commenting on. I certainly don't question the work ethic of guys like Skrbec, Palkki, and others I've watched play. It certainly is disappointing to know some players showed disinterest in such a huge game.

I would have to say Klienendorst and Skerbek Have a pretty good game too!!!PuckTime wrote:The team was no doubt flat last night and half didn't look like they cared to even be there - HALF - so to say that Rendle is the only one who brings his game every night is not true. To say he doesn't have people around him willing to work as hard, not true. There are others on that team that work their arses off too - every shift, every game. They are not "Rendle" type players, but you can't take away work ethic because of that.rapidsrapids wrote:Woe, don't get me wrong, I'm not an expert, but everyone who was at the game was saying the effort wasn't there, so what am I supposed to conclude? As far as the coaches - how am I a hypocrite? I don't think they are utilizing the talent and skills of all the kids on the team. They are trying to win with about 7-8 kids and those kids don't have enough talent for it to work the same way it worked a few years ago.
They are actually being forced to COACH now and I don't think they've done a good job this year. Most of the time they are too busy matching lines to even really watch a game.
I may be wrong, but I've been around hockey my whole life and that's how I see it.
Rendle's plans?
What is Rendle going to do next year? Juniors? College? Holiday Station?
I dont think you can honestly say that Laroque has been playing around the studs of the team... Just doesnt seem to me like you would win that many games that way.PuckTime wrote:How are you able to judge Rendle from where you're at?
