Gorilla- Butter knife and chess? Once again you come back with nothing. Lets just say we agree to disagree. I wanted to share a little history with you. Read about the man from Minnesota that built Engelstad Arena. There's some interesting facts because I know you want facts. I find it interesting that UND doesn't even own the rights to Engelstad Arena. I guess that means they rent it out which means its not really UND's arena it's owned by a private family which leaves UND without an arena. You wanted facts. 8)

Ralph Engelstad (January 28, 1930 from Thief River Falls, Minnesota – November 26, 2002 Las Vegas, Nevada) was the multi-millionaire owner of the Imperial Palace casino-hotels in Las Vegas and in Biloxi, Mississippi and the Klondike Hotel & Casino. He was also the donor for the construction of the $100 million Ralph Engelstad Arena for his alma mater, the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and another arena bearing his name in Thief River Falls, Minnesota.

Engelstad was known as a self-made man, one of the very few independent casino-hotel owners in Las Vegas, and for philanthopic ventures.

Engelstad was also a somewhat controversial figure. He raised accusations of being sympathetic to Nazism owing to his collection of Nazi memorabilia stored in a private room within the casino-hotel, including a painting of himself dressed in a Nazi uniform (captioned "to Adolf from Ralphie"), a painting of Hitler with the reverse caption, and a collection of antique cars which contained vehicles alleged to have once belonged to German Nazi leaders. On April 20 in 1986 and 1988, he hosted parties allegedly to celebrate Adolf Hitler's birthday at his casino in Las Vegas which featured bartenders in T-shirts reading "Adolf Hitler — European tour 1939-45". Because of this, in 1989, the Nevada Gaming Commission fined Engelstad $1.5 million "for actions that damaged the reputation and image of Nevada's gaming industry." Engelstad apologized publicly for the parties, but the row was not to be his last controversial move.[1]

Engelstad embroiled himself in the fight over the Fighting Sioux logo when he built a $100 million arena on the University of North Dakota campus for the Fighting Sioux hockey program. Midway in its construction, Engelstad threatened to withdraw funding if the long standing nickname were to be changed.[2] The logo was placed in thousands of instances in the arena, making the prospect of removal a costly measure. Later, Engelstad placed the stadium under private (rather than University) management and stipulated that the Fighting Sioux motif be kept indefinitely. An Engelstad family trust continues to own the arena and rents it to the University.[3]

If UND takes away the Indian logo I'd hate to see what's the second choice? I hope it's not a German logo [-X

'In Grand Forks, the North Dakota offense came alive to greet the Gophers as the Fighting Sioux triumphed 6-1 on Friday and 6-3 on Saturday. As Minnesota senior defenseman R.J. Anderson (Philadelphia Flyers) put it to The Grand Forks Herald, “They came to a war with guns and we came with butter knives.”'

How 'bout the University of North Dakota Fighting Canadians? #-o

Maybe the University of North Dakota Huskies. I don't think the league has enough Huskies...

All this Judge and yet............................. UND STILL has more hockey championships then EVERY D1 college hockey program in Minnesota combined (and I know, I know, this is WITH using all Minnesota kids). Apparently that must really bother you because you have now entered the world of just being insane. I did not know they had computers on that floor of the hospital for you.

Biscuit, if you are truly going to be the bigger man, by not talking back, then you really need to stop talking back. Must be a Gopher fan thing.

Where's the Sioux?

Post by DmanDad1980 »

According to USCHO, if the season ended today, the NCAA bracketology shows that we would not be seeing the "Mighty Cana... Sioux" in the Big Dance...

From USCHO... http://www.uscho.com/news/id,16512/Brac ... 2009.htmll

So our tournament now is:

West Regional: In Minnesota... :D

Minnesota-Duluth vs. Northeastern
Miami vs. Minnesota

Midwest Regional:

Air Force vs. Notre Dame
Boston College vs. Michigan

East Regional:

Niagara vs. Boston University
Ohio State vs. Vermont

Northeast Regional:

New Hampshire vs. Cornell
Princeton vs. Denver

Where are the Sioux? Looking in... counting championships...
Still a long road to the NCAA's, will the Winnipeg Sioux make the cut... :?:
Should be fun...

Dman, great, look what you have probably done.....fans like Judge are running around their neighborhood right now half dressed screaming "UND didn't make the playoffs, UND didn't make the playoffs, UND didn't make the playoffs." Do you know how mad he will be once he realizes that your post is nothing more then someone guessing how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop.

Judge is so envious of UND, he spends all his time trying to tear down the program (since he appraently can say nothing good about the Uother then "they mostly have Minnesota kis"). He's just so excited about thinking that he finally has one little thing on UND (not making the NCAA's) that he is willing to believe anything. Don't tease him like that  Judge, you must have been attending one of your home state teams, Duluth or St. Cloud, when you heard your "O'Canada" song you seem to know so well--you know all the words.

I'm not going to say that North Dakota will advance further than Minnesota, but they will be in the NCAA tournament. You know it as well as I do. Great programs rise when others fall.

I'm just having some fun...

The Sioux will be fine by season's end and barring any unforeseen collapse, NoDak will make another run at 8, while the Gophs will also be looking to get #6...

Gorilla- Are you eating that tainted peanut butter again? Read above I just said that both programs are very solid. This is all in good fun. Once again it looks like another UND fan that cannot play with the big boys. Just be proud you import players to play in ND. Put it this way....... Can you imagine how brutal UND hockey would be if they used all ND kids? I can promise you that you wouldn't be cheering for them or watching them they couldn't compete with the big boys.
Good luck to your beloved sioux renting out the Hitler center. Maybe someday they can buy their own hockey arena to call home

Judge, I guess you can speak from experience about how proud a program must be importing players (given all Minnesota teams import players). Jack Frost must have been nipping at your brain last night when you were running around  Just take a deep breath and relax next time before you post

Dman, I agree that both the Sioux and U make it. Minnesota can do well, but Kangas has to get back to where he was in order for the U to go anywhere. UND needs their goalie to keep improving as he has been all year as well.

Gorilla- How did your goalie look against SCSU Friday night? I realize that UND is un-stoppable right now. I think Canada has some good 26 year old goalies UND can recruit next year. I know UND is famous for 26 year old freshman. Back in the day they used to be married and have kids.

Are there any plans on UND building their own rink soon? Or do they plan on renting out the Hitler center for years to come? It would be cool to see UND have their own arena. They might be the only WCHA team that doesn't own their own rink.

I wouldn't be smack talking after your Gophers got embarassed by Minnesota State. The Canadians are four points up now...

Hey Judge, nice team you have there. You want to talk about goalies? UND has one and Lucia has ruined another one in Kangas. Two losses to Mankato--a butt kickin on the road and another one at home!! Our goalie is a freshmen, and yes, I am PROUD to say form Canada. Those Minnesota kids you have sure are doing well--you must be so proud. Once again, the U fading and UND coming on strong. From A UND perspective, hopefully ALL the kids are from Minnesota next year.

Judge, please make sure you take your pills BEFORE you post next time--it will make more sense. Hey, we still have more championships at UND then ALL of the D1 schools and pro teams combined in Minnesota--AND Holy Cross won last night!!

Gorilla- Minnesota had a tough weekend. UND had one nice win on the road against a terrible team. Team Canada was shut out Friday night. Very impressive. UND good at home terrible on the road?

Is the WCHA final five at the Hitler center?

Is the NCAA regional at the Hitler center?

You better hope so if they even make the NCAA's. UND has a lot of losses. I see they're still behind Minnesota in the rankings.

They actually played better Friday night. Out-shot the Huskies 36-18, but couldn't bury it. The Sioux are just like the rest of league (excluding SCSU, UMD and Tech) when it comes to road, right at or around .500. Crazy thing is...Duluth is a NCAA tourney team right now with a 2-7-1 mark on the road. :?

WCHA Road records:
Wisconsin 5-4-1
Minnesota State 5-4-2
Colorado College 4-4-1
Denver 4-4-1
Minnesota 4-4-1
North Dakota 4-4-2
Alaska-Anchorage 4-6
St. Cloud State 2-5-1
Minnesota-Duluth 2-7-1
Michigan Tech 0-8-4

UMD is 5-1-3 in conference play at the DECC, and 9-1-3 overall. Solid play at home is keeping them alive... barely.

UND is #14 in the Pairwise thanks to Northeastern! :D I wonder how far they can climb (or fall) without playing a game this weekend. Believe it or not; they would really benefit from a Minnesota and a Denver sweep (even though it would hurt them in the WCHA standings).

Where have you been Judge? I haven't heard from you since Ground Hog day. I thought Ground Hogs were supposed to go back into their hole for 6 more weeks of winter, not Gophers. Could your absence be related to the Wisconsin sweep (at home), Mankato sweep (at home), and less then stellar performance against the Seapups? Just wondering.
