WBL at Stillwater 2/5/09

Post by mnhcky65 »

Game is this Thursday, 7:30 PM, at St. Croix arena.

--Last Year Stillwater won at Aldrich, while WBL won at St. Croix Arena, I beleive.

--This year, Stillwater won at Aldrich 2-1 in overtime.

--The Bears have been playing well lately, on a 3 game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 20-3 in their last 3 games. (Flake, Park, MV)

--WBL is 2nd in the SEC, while Stillwater is currently 4th.

Who's gong to win this one?

WBL is playing very well right now, and Stillwater is struggling a bit. I like the Bears to score early and keep the momentum going. Bears 3-1 to extend the streak to 4.

I don't think there is any question that WBL is on all cylinders right now. Stillwater will have to find a way to stop the onslaught that poses with the top two scoring lines. WBL has five of the top 10 scorers in the conference, and the 3rd line, with the addition of Mac Jansen's speed has elevated the game of his linemates, Hauswirth and Pasma.

With Gjerde still out, Hoffman again will be asked to toughen it out thru his injury.

Housley will try to counterpunch by being able to slow down WBL by being physical, force the Bears along the boards, try and stop them in the neutral zone and wear them down.... But the way WBL has been playing, you can't hit what you can't catch.

As I have stated before, the only players that can score on Collette are the snipers, and Stillwater doesn't have anything to be afraid of. Good goaltending is a must, as WBL has made MV's goalie, Park's, and even Moberg from Forest Lake look average.

WBL 4- Stillwater 1

Sorry but Stillwater is one if not the fastest team in the SEC. They have had some trouble scoring they had a couple players out with injuries but all are back, lines are set and they are ready for the final stretch.

Yes they have some scoring in the top ten but thats like saying Hill plays in a tough conference. They scored most of those in 4 games, other then that against tough teams they are average in scoring.

So let me ask you this if you are coaching do you play all your carsd in this one or save a little for the Sectionals?

If Sager rolls three lines the whole game WBL wins 5-1. If Sager doesn't roll three consistantly it stays close, maybe overtime... hard to say who wins.

Stillwater has scored a total of 6 goals in 6 of its last 7 games (6 goals against Park).. WBL has scored 4 or more goals in almost half of it's games this year. Stillwater has been shutout twice in its past 4 games, including Forest Lake, and only beat Hastings 2-1.

As I said, the only players that can score on Collette are snipers, and, excluding the PPG scored in their first meeting. You're beginning to make me change my mind about the score... I am starting to think 6-1, not 4-1..

in the last three times these teams played, sam swanson had a penalty kill breakaway goal that he scored as he was falling. good goaltending over there at stilwater.

I kind of doubt that happened three times, but I'll still go with

Although I hate to associate myself with these guys, I'll take White Bear 4-2 in light of their hot play lately.

With the way the Bears are playing,(and the way Stillwater has been lately) , WB should win this one. But, Stillwater seems to have thier best game agianst WB, and the bears the opposite. Could go either way.

Pointstreak says 2-2 after 2. It was 2-0 Stillwater earlier, though.

WBL is gonna have a hard time in these next few games now that Gjerde is out, Hoffman is out, and Birkenbine is out.

As I stated in my pre-game post, Housley would attack WBL in the neutral zone and along the boards. I didn't mention that they would prove to be as effectively aggressive with their forecheck, but holding WBL to 5 shots in the first, plus creating two forced errors right in front of the WBL net resulting in goals was huge for Stillwater!!!

Youngblood states that Stillwater might be the fastest in the SEC. I don't think their speed is anything special, but mix it with the aggressive play, and taking advantage of forced errors mark a quality team to capitalize on that.

The Bears did a nice job in regrouping despite being short on personnel to muster 29 shots for the game. And to fall behind by two goals twice and to fight back both times shouldn't make WBL panic. However, if I was Stillwater, I would be concerned about giving up the two goal leads twice, though.
