I heard the 10 finalists are picked this Tuesday. Who do you think they will be?

Now I'm not very good at math but that seems like more than 10 to me.

Really? I have nothing against Anders Lee, he's definitely a great player but I think it's hard to ignore what Ben Hanowski (sp?) has done over his career, although it may be hard to compare the two players.

Weak conference or not and who cares, Big Ben wraps it up because he is the BEST HOCKEY PLAYER in the state of Minnesota

It all depends on how many times Kevin Gorg gets to vote for Anders Lee.

Last year you had Gardiner and Ness with a lot of good players in the mix. This year it is hard to find a front runner, along with 10 players that are worthy. If Budish would have been able to play, he would have been the winner hands down. I think Leddy is the odds on favorite, but his stats are not that great.

Lee might not be the best player ON HIS LINE! :D
Everson is a better player, "impressive resume" or not.

My vote goes to Budish, but Mr. Leddy looks like he has the best shot.

Lee will not get it because he is not the "total" player. How much defense does he play and how much is his presence on the ice know. Edina has a lot of talented players.
Hanowski has a ton of points but I do not know anything else about him, but that alone may gather the votes.
I am guessing it will come down to Leddy and Mattson. I am saying Mattson, he has to be the best stick handler in the state and does not score a lot og goals, but is more an assist guy. He makes the team around him better. You can put any two guys on his line and they look great.

This award is not about the best scorer, player or who gets their name said by Me. Non-Know-it-all Gorg. I know a couple of years ago, hands down the best player in the state did not win. He won Metro player of the year, scoring leader and it still did not matter.

Anyway, Congratulations to all the finalists. We write on these boards because we love to watch them play the game.

I'd throw Jamnick in the top group and pick on the three remaining. I don't think it should be May, so either Zepeda or Landman for the final spot.

Lee is really strong in all zones and I think everyone who plays against him realizes how big of an effect he has on the game, with that being said, I think he is the second best player on his line, behind Everson and don't think he will win Mr. Hockey, although he certainly should be a finalist.

I think the winner comes down to Mattson, Leddy and Hanowski.

Gorg still thinks Danny Mattson and Taylor Mattson are brothers

Top 10

Hanowski
Leddy
Mattson
Lee
Everson
Tardy
Pitlick
Landman
Zepeda
Rendle

(my pick to win is Hanowski. All the hype that will follow the record will have a sentimental effect even on the scouts - ala John Pohl (drafted in the 6th???) and Hanowski will go much higher. I saw him split 2 D (one being future gopher Nate Schmidt and score - had Schmidt slamming his stick on the ice) He's the right pick....just wish he'd be wearing Maroon and Gold for the next few years.

How fun is this to have all this talent spread throughout the state!

your right, your 100% right. However, Mr. Hockey has a huge political aspect to it. First off, your school has allot to do with it. Notice how many private schools kids have won? ONE and thats because there was no way to deny Ryan should be Mr. Hockey. Remember 06? How did Barribal not win? Well its politics, and David Fischer and his partner Medvec dismantled that highly touted AHA team that year. Because of one good game within a string of inconsistency, Fischer got it.

I think Hanowski is a very good player, but unfortunately he is a big fish in a small pond. If he played for an Edina, D. East, Jefferson, Roseau, etc...then I bet things would be different.

So, here is my prediction. Whoever you see the most in the Trib and Press, thats whos gonna get it. Did you see Anders Lee featured like 5 times for football, and more than that for hockey? The Trib really likes that kid. Im just going to re-iterate. He who gets the most press come voting, gets the gold. Mock my words.

It's not a career award so career stats are meaningless.

Kind of interesting people are putting Tyler Pitlick in the run for Mr. Hockey when he violated team and league hockey rules. What kind of picture is this for kids that are not playing hockey because of violations -he gets rewarded for it - interesting and very political.
