I second that, both games were awesome to watch. If LF keeps up what they are doing, and keep their heads in the game, I think they will be able to make it through the tough match at sections, but I still think Alex could surprise lots, and maybe even Sartell the way they been playing, which should make it an awesome sections.Goldy Gopher wrote:Alex has the ability to rise up and beat them. I've seen alex play about 5 times this season, including the game against LF and assuming those 2 teams make it to the finals its anyones game. This will be the first time in 4 years that small falls will actually be truly challenged in the sections. Alex has the depth, and definatly the goaltending to beat Little Falls, but as of yet they have yet to put all the pieces together to beat them. Even though Alex hasnt played their best as of late I think playing Moorhead the last game of the regular season will be a good prep for the playoffs. And definatly don't count out the sabers of sartell after pulling a tie with alex, but i look for both the flyers and cardinals to bring their A games to the playoffs, i'm looking for an overtime thriller at the MAC in the finals.....
Good analysis Snake but I've got to comment on the Sartell game. Alex' coach decided to bench two players off Alex first line for the 3rd period including their leading scorer. This allowed Sartell back in that game which Alex had under control.snakedude11 wrote:I've seen alex play about 5 times this season, including the game against LF and assuming those 2 teams make it to the finals its anyones game. Might have been the right move for the long run but hurt them in that game as they were dominating up to that point.
Lf 4-3 and 1-0 in the two games. I definately would not call that a lock. I don't understand why you would bench your two best players unless maybe it was 3-0. Still, when there are only three goals scored I don't understand how you could have the game in hand at any point. I believe Alexandria will make it to the section finals but that game could give Sartell confidence going into the section semis where anything can happen. Keep your foot on the throat!

well as far as i know the reason for them benching thomas williams is he has been fighting the flu, and is still on the recovery, but i was at the game and alex pretty much had the game under control, but a few defensive mistakes, and a few soft goals let sartell back in the game. Once the game was tied alex took control again but just couldn't put the puck in the net. I think a rematch between these 2 would be a good game, but i would like to think the outcome would be in the cardinals favor by 2 or 3 goals....

Alex might have a chance if they play as a team. Coaching has to use their depth and not tire some players out. They have no Hanowski so there is no reason to over play some players. Benching players that dont bring 100% to every game is ok. The Sartel game was not tied because a couple players got benched. It was because of a couple of mistakes, a couple of soft goals, and Resch had a 10 minute misconduct.
The alex and sartell game was in alex hands until Resch got a 10 min misconduct. That is when Sartells momentum started to build. He is the backbone of that 1st line and the other two on that line were struggling throughout the game anyways. If I had to guess why they got benched is because they were playing very selfish. Wants Resch got back in the game at the 5 min mark of the third alex started to play better again. Those two getting benched had nothing to do with it, it was losing resch to that 10 min that set the cards back

I think LF is the clear favorite. Alex I believe is the only team that could beat them in sections. They have great goaltending and are pretty solid up front. Sartell is a nice team, good enough to beat alex in the semis but not good enough to beat LF in the finals. Lf is a battle tested bunch, most of there players have been through the playoffs multiple times and they know what it takes to win in the postseason. Alex played in the finals last year and they have some players that have played in the section final atmosphere thats why I think they are the only team that could beat LF. Should be a fun section!

I agree that losing Resch had an impact but saying that taking the center and the leading scorer off of Resch's line "had nothing to do with it" is ludicrous at best. That is Alex's top producing line and sitting two of three forwards HAS an impact.officeman wrote:The alex and sartell game was in alex hands until Resch got a 10 min misconduct....Wants Resch got back in the game at the 5 min mark of the third alex started to play better again. Re: Section 6A Lock??
Little Falls is one heckuva team this year. Section 6a is their's to lose. They could get bigheaded and have an upset after annhiiating their opponents this year but a team still has to beat them. Sartell is a dark horse, and who knows, if they play with a chip on their shoulder they could provide some excitement. Alexandria would be the team that Little Falls should worry about obviously. I just think that the way LF has been putting away all of their rivals (who in previous years beat them up badly) I don't know if LF will let Alex win.scarface wrote:Looking for opinions as well as your vote....Is Little Falls the Section 6A lock to go to State?

Remember two years ago when Moorhead beat Roseau handily twice (4-1 and 6-1) and Roseau ended up beating them in the section finals and winning state?
I'm not at all trying to imply Alex will win state, but the combination of Moorhead overlooking Roseau and Roseau wanting that win really badly was probably what got them the win. Alex has lost two 1 goal games to Little Falls this year. If Little Falls gets too big of heads, they won't be going to the X.
All that being said, Little Falls will be the #1 seed and I'd be surprised to not being seeing them playing for a title.

Every stat I've seen has Williams as the points leader.

It was my post that you are referring to and I said "leading scorer" which is Williams. You said goal scorer and you are alone in that statement. Everyone else in the hockey world refers to leading scorer as the individual with the most points!!!!!ice hacker wrote:Nobody said anything about leading points, they said leading goal scorer. That would be Resch by 9 goals.

And Alex could lose to Sartell, blah blah. Analogies using basketball and Scenario's from 2 years ago is helping this 6A talk. We all can't wait for your comment!!! Are you feeling any love form this forum HShockeywatcher.

Resch is the top of that line and the benchings were warranted from what I saw of the game. You could put two other people on that line to play with resch and replace vangsness and williams and you would see the same effectiveness. It was good to see Alex is starting to play better. Everyone on the second line had a goal in that second game with a couple having multiple points (Black 3, Thompsen 2, Gronholtz 1) I feel for them to win the section this line will be the key. The top line probably will not do much scoring on the honowski line they will need to focus on maintaining and playing good solid D.
no worries....just trying to keep us all on the same page.ice hacker wrote:Well I am kind of new to the hockey world! Maybe I don't know everything yet but what I can see is Resch is an all around player up and down the ice. Sorry if I miss understood you!!!
I agree with your first statement. From what I understand, sitting those players has been building for a while. As I said in an earlier post, "Might have been the right move for the long run but hurt them in that game..."officeman wrote:Resch is the top of that line and the benchings were warranted from what I saw of the game. ..... Agreed on your second point as well...Alex has and can played with LF this year but in order to beat them at the section tourney, they are going to need contributions from all THREE lines and have their defense play solid in front of Hemingway. If it comes to it...I hope both teams play well at sections. Should be one heck of a game.
