more bad news bears

Okay, this thread is not about coach bashing, enough of that! What is the word on WB injuries? How long will Lowell and Birkinbine be out?

word is Lowell is going to sit out the rest of the season, he doesn't want to risk further injury. and Birki should be back soon.

WOW losing Lowell will hurt more then just getting Birkinbine will. I also can't imagine Hoffman is 100% or will be. The door has been opened further in Section 4AA.

Lowell suffered a hand injury in the game against Stillwater. I'm not sure if he broke or dislocated a finger/fingers, but I'm pretty sure that's what happened. It's unfortunate, because he was really starting to play well. I hope they can regroup now, and stay healthy the rest of the season.

I believe it was during the game against Hastings, but yeah that is what happened. He hurt his pinky finger somehow, and may potentially need surgery - Just what we don't need.

he broke his pinky during the hastings game. but get this. he is playing vs roseville he says...

it was first hurt in practice i heard, and was hurt more from a slash during hastings and surgery is now possible. If so, he will be out until state if they make it that far.

he is getting surgery on it thursday during the day, and says he is playing in thursday night's game against roseville!

Bears looked pretty good last night. Looked like Hoffman started the game at defense, moved to center during the first period, and then played defense the whole 2nd and 3rd period. I'm not sure what the future holds, but based on his winning two consecutive draws cleanly in the offensive zone, I would think he should start the shift at center for the draw, and then move back to defense as the play continues on.

I think the coaches got a little confused also. There was one point in the game that the bears only had 4 guys on the ice for the draw. Sager saw three forwards and Nitti saw two defensemen. Problem is, Hoffman can't play both at the same time.

I think the role Hoffman played last night, as I have attested since being on the board, shows how he is the toughest SOB... He has battled nagging injurues all year - not just minor - but pretty hard injuries... there shouldn't be one dang Bears player in that locker room who shouldn't follow his exaample. I'll throw Chad Lowell in the mix... For a kid who was suppose to have a bad finger requiring surgery, and to play the way he did last night, I clap my hands for hands.

Hoffman has that ability to make the transition during the game from D to forward easily.... and the thing I like best, is he gets the "tough guy" penatlies.... roughing, boarding, tomahawking, carjacking, pistol whipping..... not the holding, hooking or tripping calls...

Just make sure you clap gently. You don't want to hurt any fingers!

most good leaders that i know dont get penalties, they set an example of not get penalties so their team will follow in their footsteps to stay out of the box.

If you don't watch a lot of Bears hockey, let me fill you in on something..... They don't take the body that well. When teams beat them, it's because of the physical play. I am saying that, INJURED, Hoffman still throws his body out there, plays physical, and when I am saying if there is going to be a penalty, make it one that is because of aggressive play, versus the holding, tripping that WBL always seems to get called for.

i have watched every game WBL has played the last 4 years and yes they do get the good penalties, not the penalties that you haver to take cause your to slow. But on the other hand, not just Hoffman, but a couple of WBL's defenders get penalties at bad times, like the last two minutes of the game which disallows the team to pull their goalie and get the extra attacker. (Moorhead and Fargo games is where this was most noticable)
