Ms. Hockey/Ms. Goalie 2010

Post by joehockey »

So this is an outstanding Senior Class of 2009 and we will know soon who Ms. Hockey and Ms. Goalie are.

As teams are still playing who will be the 2010 Class of Ms. Hockey and Ms. Goalie?

I will list a few who might be there in alpha order please add your thoughts (I kind of used a cross section of stats, and selection to NDP and Upper Midwest Elite Girls HS League though 2009 had girls that were not NDP or the UMEGHSL. I am sure there are some missing - very good group to bad only 10 can be picked). At the bottom I listed a few great players in the class of 2010 not playing HS Hockey who likely would be consdiered if they were playing MN HS Hockey. Sorry I don't know all of these kids from the GPA, Community Service aspects - the ones I know though are a really great crew.

Top 10 Ms. Goalies 2010 (I had trouble here maybe because this group of three is very strong)
1) Kallie Billadeau, Hopkins
2) Marah Sobczak, Stillwater
3) Kaitlyn Rolando, Tartan (Number 1 in her HS class academically)
4)
5)
6)
7)
8)
9)
10)

Top 10 Ms. Hockey 2010
I started with a top 20 and probably still missing some top players
1) Rose Avella, D, Red Wing
2) Bethany Brausen, F, Roseville
3) Corinne Buie, F, Edina
4) Kayla Capistrant, F, Roseville
5) Amanda Colin, F, Burnsville
6) Melissa Doyle, F, Hill Murray
7) Dana Gallop, F, GRG
8) Ellie Gleason, D, Edina
9) Cara Johnson, F, Hopkins
10) Kristi King, F, Stillwater
11) Christian Lacombe F/D, Eden Prairie
12) Catie Ladner, D, Chaska
13) Kaitlin Mason, F, Eagan
14) Maddie Marcotte, D, White Bear
15) Gina McDonald, F, Irondale
16) Maggie Pendelton, D, Hill Murray
17) Francie Piche', D, East Grand Forks
18) Cassandra Salomen, F, Stillwater
19) Ashley Stenerson, F, Moorhead
20) Lisa Tuuri, F, Stillwater

Not Eligible but worthy MN players in class of 2010 but not playing HS Hockey: Thoroughbreds, Culver & SSM
1) Corinne Henning, F, Culver Academy, St. Paul
2) Lauren Joarnt, G, SSM, White Bear
3) Kari Lundberg, F, Thoroughbreds, Woodbury
4) Maddie Mazario, D, SSM, Prior Lake
5) Dani Williams, F/D, Thoroughbreds, Waconia

Here is a list of the top 20 defenders and the top 25 forwards. I went this deep to get some of the metro kids on the list. You can also see the SOS. I also added total goals scored by the team they play for.
I have stats from two different sites, Coaches association (you may change stats at a later date) and Mn. Scores. net (direct result of the game score sheet and can not be changed at a later date). All stats and games are in now and this is based on 25 games played.

No offense intended to the class of 2009--there are outstanding players and teams and this is going to be a great section week and great state tournament. But the class of 2010 is loaded for bear!
1) Don't want to rile up a goalie argument again  but I'll take Sobczak over Billadeau for the pre-season Ms. Goalie favorite.
2) Rose Alleva should be listed first in any list, alphabetical or not.

Nice list but any list that doesn't include Steph Hatcher from Lakeville North and Francie Varner from Buffalo is not complete.

Varner probably an oversite with stats since she has been out all year with injury.

Joe- Coaches Association has Sara Ness listed as a Jr. Mn. Scores and Mn. State High School League have her as a Sr. Stenerson is listed as a F and Lacombe is listed as a D on both sites. The original list is from the Mghca site and then compared with the Mn. Scores. net web site.

Nice list but any list that doesn't include Steph Hatcher from Lakeville North and Francie Varner from Buffalo is not complete.
Steph Hatcher is listed as a 10th grader on the MGHCA web site with 5 G 7 A = 12 pts.

Great list - pretty sure Sara Ness, Chaska is a senior this year. I think Stenerson Moorhead has been playing D and Lacombe EP forward this season others may know better.
Chaska has her as a Sr on MNSHL so don't know but thought she was a Sr.

Stenerson moved third game to D and Lacombe moved about the same time to F I think (but the EP Nation would know best). Both talented players who have really been able to help their teams with their ability to fill needs. Great list!

at least with the MGHCA the coaches can correct problems.

Sorry. Why would teams have different stats at differents sites? Our team has one person who enters for all sites. Our person (non parent) has said certain sites are down all the time and it's impossible to get correct.

Supposedly you are suppose to be able to enter the data on MGHCA and then it is suppose to send the info to the sites you want,

Melvin- I looked up the WBL stats from Mn. sports online web site and there were 3 girls that came close but they did not crack the top 20 or 25 list.

Defense
Kwapick, Heidi ......WBL.....No stats.....4-10=14.....70G
Marcott, Maddie.....WBL.....No stats......2-12=14.....70G

Forward
Green, Erin.....WBL.....No stats.....15-17=32.....70G

Our team's stats are incorrect on minnesotasportsonline. Our coach keeps the stats and uses MGHCA. Its too bad that there isn't one reliable place where the stats are correct.

I wasn't saying our girls weren't on the list what I was saying is that you can't only go by stats to see who the top players are. I was also saying stats can be misleading by who does the entering.

Strong Forwards like,

Kait Mason Eagan
Kristi King Stillwater
Joci Slattery Centennial
Etc.
Etc.

Strong Defenders like,

Maggie Pendleton HM
Ellie Gleason Edina
Meghan Dalbec CP
Etc.
Etc.

Are left off your list but will be key players on their teams next year and deserving of being mentioned.

There are many qualities other than just points that decide this award. Leadership, Community, GPA etc are also recognized. If we rewarded just on points weaker conferences/schedules would win most of the Awards.

Thanks for mentioning our girls though.

I have a few to add to the list, some don't get the recognition because of where they play, but they are among the top in the state and will get consideration for Ms. Goalie:

Michelle Bonapace-Potvin Roch JM
Tamara Twite EGF
Lindsay Kauchick Eastview
Nicole Lund CEC
Lindsey Brown Irondale

IMO the RJM kid might be better than both Sobczak & Billadeau.
