DIII Who is going where?

Post by barneyfife27 »

There is more than enough about the DI schools. There are a lot of great hockey players who are very serious student -athletes attending some great schools. Who is going where?

This is a great group of kids going to Bethel not only on the ice but they are just great kids. Charlie has done a great job getting players and will be a force to come. Great Job...

I don't know if this is official but I've been told that Madison Stybricki of Breck is going to Middlebury.

I agree that there should be more emphasis on players who choose to go to a school based on excellent academics. So much focus is on who is playing at the D1 level. Many great players are turning down D1 schools to attend some of the best schools in the country i.e. Amherst, Middlebury, etc. There aren't many who will play in college and only a handful that will do anything after that. They should be using hockey to get them in to these very selective, highly academic schools, if they have the grades and test scores. Schools like Amherst, Middlebury, etc. require 30++ ACT scores, so that leaves a majority of the players out.

Pretty quiet right now on both the D1 and D3 fronts, but the Thoroughbreds have a few D3 commitments listed:

Brooke Hanson.......F.......Maple Grove HS/T-Breds......UW Stevens Point
Samantha Meuwissen.......F.......Chaska HS/T-Breds.....Concordia U (WI)
Tamara Meuwissen..........F........Chaska HS/T-Breds.....Gustavus
Alex Morey........F........Robbinsdale Armstrong HS/T-Breds.....UW River Falls

This is in addition to Katie Frischmann's D1 commitment to the Gophers

St. Mary's University (Minnesota) has two commitments added:
Brianna Drude........D/F.......North St Paul HS
Tara Rasmusen......F..........Dodge County

Actually there are a few Concordia Universities across the country, including in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul. There are also a few Concordia Colleges around. I'm just saying....

Yes and thank you Bensonmum! I've heard them lumped together, there is a large one in Chicago that is affiliated with many of them as well. I believe they are Jesuit affiliated in many instances.

To be serious though:

Concordia University - 2nd year program, coach seems to have things going the right direction. Last season freshman and sophs - fully loaded roster. I'm guessing it will be again so not sure about recruiting. I did hear Kari Hunter was injured last year and will NOT be playing hockey so I'm sure (even though they had four) a goalie will be in the works.

Concordia College: Started out on fire last season and slowly faded. I would guess (if I remember correctly) that they will have to replace a few forwards and a couple of D. Have not heard a peep about recruits but for DIII still just a little early.

great thanks!
oh by the way, my daughter is trying to go d3 and she is a junior now, but when people are recruited, how many of the girls are actually cut by the coaches when they try out?

Cuts at DIII

Post by Puck Bag »

I only have first hand experience with my daughters team and last year they cut four skaters (all were walk ons) but also in my experience the coach will be very upfront with you regarding making the team, cuts, kids coming in at the same positions (if they know). So when you visit the schools don't be afraid to ask the coaches the hard questions.

If I recall - many schools in the MIAC and NCHA don't make an official announcement until fall when the kids are actually on campus. As fans we usually have to wait for local newspaper articles or a posting on Beyond the Dashers to see who is planning on going where.

After Junior Fest you'll hear a few things as well.

Good education and DIII hockey --look at NESCAC schools

Post by hockeymaven »

For kids who want a good education and hockey at DIII and a new experience outside MN or WI then take a hard look at all the NESCAC schools.

The NESCAC schools are some of the better liberal arts schools in the country and a number of whom also have a hockey program that is very good such as Amherst, Middlebury and Trinity. These three all have one or more MN kids on their roster as do a number of the other NESCAC schools.

Williams by way of example whose hockey program is on the rise is one of the very best liberal arts schools in the country- including as compared to the Ivies.

This is the steal of the century right here. How this kid got passed over by D-1 schools is beyond me. She might be the best goalie I've seen since I've been involved with girls hockey...and there have been a few including the duo from eagan. Good for St. Mary's!!
