Class AA Section Semifinal Games - Your Predictions!

Post by MNHockeyFan »

Thought we would get another contest going for the Class AA Section Semifinal Games, and then for next week we'll try to do a separate contest for the eight section final games.

So for this contest there will be 16 games total, with each section's games posted as the teams are determined. So check back daily and post your scores as you see the games added. The deadline for each section will be one hour before that section's first game starts. Same rules apply as the regular season weekly contests - one point for picking the winner of each game (no ties this time!) and two bonus points for picking a correct score.

Our first pair of games which is for Section 3AA is already determined. Where each team has been seeded in its section is shown in parenthesis. Should be interesting and fun, just copy the games and insert your scores in your post:

Section 3AA - deadline 5:00 pm on 2/14/09
Eagan (#1) vs. Rosemount (#4)
Eastview (#3) vs. Burnsville (#2)

They were the top four seeds. Were you expecting anything less?

Hmmm. The #2 team in the Lake beat the #8 team from the SEC 3-2. The #3 team from the Lake needed overtime for the #7 team from the SEC. I'd suggest that next year the Section realignment czars send Roseville and HM back in with the Lake teams to restore a little inter-conference sanity.

Since 7AA only has 7 teams and all other sections have at least 8 and most 9, why not move up a team from 4AA (Roseville) to 3AA and the northern most 3AA to 7AA?

Interesting, so far 7 individuals have posted their 3AA scores, and on a total goals basis it's Eastview 19, Burnsville 19.

You need to be fair to Roseville. Last year, RV had the #1 section seed and lost to a team in the bottom half of the SEC conference. I suspect the section czars didn't want RV or Stillwater to lose to a low ranked SEC team again. So they put a bunch of them against Lake teams which wiped them all out in one night. 8)

So now the Lake will have at least 1, probably 2 (#1 Lakeville S and #3 Lakeville N) and a long shot (sorry EP guys) at 3 teams playing to keep the state title in the Lake.

The SEC might get one team into the state tourney assuming Roseville and Stillwater can avoid last years derailment. But HM and NSP will try to keep the SEC out of the tournament this year.

7AA did have 8 teams until this year when Chisago Lakes and Pine City ended their co-op, sending Chisago to 7A

The semifinals for Section 7AA are now set. This section will be determine their finalists before any other section, so note the tight deadline for these games:

Section 7AA - deadline 10:00 am on 2/14/09
Grand Rapids/Greenway (#1) vs. Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (#4)
Duluth Northern Stars (#2) vs. Proctor/Hermantown/Duluth Marshall (#3)

Both of these should be great games.

There's still plenty of time for new entrants to post their picks - please post 3AA and 7AA together if possible. For those who've already posted 3AA, please add 7AA below.
