East is expected to win, but this is one of those games they could lose if they overlook...

The Hounds have scored 4 goals in each of their last four games, so I'll keep the trend going and say-

Duluth East 4
Stillwater 1

Of the six schedules I've seen, its split 3-3 on the location. I am still pretty sure its at Heritage Arena. I sent an email over to East to find out for sure. In case I forget to revisit this thread, check prephockeynorth.com later this evening - it will have the correct location by then.

East played progressively better as the game went on. They came out sloppy, giving up two first period goals on four shots.

They took a few penalties in the second, but didn't allow a goal, giving up another four shots.

The third may have been the most dominant period of hockey I've seen East play. They moved the puck extremely well, forechecked like crazy, and allowed absolutely nothing to happen in their D zone. The Hounds scored 4 goals in the third, but the more impressive stat is they didn't allow a single shot in the last period. If only they would play like that all the time.

Very impressive. I saw the pointstreak summary and was wondering if it was a misprint (it looked a bit sketchy; East had the same # of SOG each period, and Stillwater had 4 in each of the first two?!).

They can get so streaky like that, though. Hopefully the 3rd period is something to build on over the next week before the real fun begins.

The first period was a great period of hockey. Unfortunately DE played the second the way they like thier women "Cheap and Dirty" #17 took a cheap shot at one of Stillwaters top players by sticking his leg out on him Knee-Knee. The game momentum changed from that point on. Should have been called but it was apparent the refs had no clue there was a hockey game going on, the one guy was so out of shape his helmet was held up by the rolls on his neck.

Shots were pretty generious for DE and missed when Stillwater took a few, not saying they missed a lot but there were a few more.

Unfortunate that DE had to go to that type of hockey they are a nice team but when Stillwater was pressuring them and jumping on the breakout passes they resorted to cheap dirty hockey. To bad all you Section 7AA teams have to go to that DECC and play.

And if you didn't think that was a cheap shot I will get the video out to you when I get it on my computer. It will be sent to MSHSL also.

You would think a very skilled team like East wouldn't have to take a late leg trip run at the best player on the other team. Guess not......

I dont believe in cheapshots and I dont like putting garbage like this out about anybody or any team. I was at the game yesterday and saw the kid from Stillwater on the ice. I did not see the play as I was watching Tardy who got hurt on the same play down in the opposite corner. If it was a cheap shot it is unfortunate it wasnt called. With 2 referees and a linesman on the ice and plenty of time to review the play with each other during the time out either NONE of them saw it or they do not agree with your analysis. I saw a ton of unneccessarry high hits from Stillwater just as well as East and felt the referees let the game get away from them a bit. Your comments about East players and girls is irrelevant and tremendously inappropriate if you are an adult you should be embarrassed by your comments. When you send your video to the MSHSL please make sure you send in your post and remarks so that can see the character of the person who is sending the information in.
I dont know any true hockey person who wants to see any kid get hurt and I certainly hope the kid is ok. Enough is enough let coaches and referees determine what happened and what they need to be worried about because I doubt Mike Randolph nor Phil Housley really need your help to follow up if they are concerned.

Just as classy as the women that yelled to "Go Home" after someone yelled for the refs to make a call on the cheap shot. Yes Tardy was down but did you notice he got up and skated his next shift? Maybe trying to draw something. He skated hard to the net and got caught up with 3 other players. Maybe caught something up high. That was part of the play nothing intentional. Where the cheap shot wasn't.

I will agree that the refs did nothing to keep this a good game. How is it when a Stillwater player got called for a penalty that 3 DE players were able to meet him at the penalty box and trash talk him as he went in yet the refs did nothing to move them away? My sending the video has nothing to do with the player it would be to get refs like this back in the mite league where they can keep up with the speed of the game.

As for the reviewing of it, it looked more like they had no clue what happened. And I never stated Stillwater played like angels out there so don't act like this is a one sided post.

Yeah well ya know what Penalty Shot (great moniker, for a so-called non-whiner), this is a one-sided post...and the injured player is in serious pain and could be out for season, so here goes.

Wow...where to start with this one??? First off, I’m glad to see one DE fan is willing to acknowledge the potential season/career ending knee-shot that their hero-hack forward, Jayce Paulseth #17, was more than happy to dole-out on one of Stillwater’s key-players early in the second period. I reluctantly use the term hero-hack to emphasize the fact that his pre-game arrival on the ice included the fans chanting, “Jayce! Jayce! Jayce! Take a look at the DE season stats and you’ll see he holds the team record for PIMS: 46 min…. next closest player comes-in at 23 mins. Normally, I would never consider using a player’s name, but the violent nature of this cheap-shot warrants it. Four yrs ago, I witnessed the exact same cheap-shot at a Tier 1 AAA PW game, which resulted in a severe spiral-fracture of the femur. One yr, 2 surgeries, and intensive rehab, the injured player still struggled to get back to his previous form. THERE’S ABSOLUTELY NO PLACE FOR THIS KIND OF CHEAP-PLAY…IN ANY SPORT.

FYI TO ALL OF YOU BUDDING HACKS OUT THERE: If you are a player who doesn’t have the nads to man-up and play the game, remotely, within the rules, then at least give your target the opportunity to square-up with your nutless-self, so everyone can see how tough you really are! Your reputation will precede you to the glorious Junior B level you are destined to play at. Good luck with that!

On to the officiating, while “youngblood08” may have been a bit harsh, (albeit dead-on), he was kind enough to overlook that this 5’9”, 295 lbs, Weeble, most definitely falls down…twice, as a matter of fact. Neither time required any contact from the players, which is a first for me to witness at the HS level. Again, I bring this up not to belittle his skating prowess, but to suggest that any ref at the HS level should have the skating ability that allows him to focus on the game, not whether he’s going to remain upright. His comment after being questioned about the cheap shot, non-call??? The DE player (Paulseth) didn’t see the Stillwater player (who was the puck-carrier), just prior to kneeing him in the thigh. Two comments here about Ref Weeble: First, his inability to stay upright on skates is clearly offset by his ability to see whatever the offending DE player(s) are able to see. Oddly, his ocular gift was unable to work on behalf of Stillwater. Secondly, he expects us to believe that this legendary DE forward (with 46 PIMS), didn’t see the puck carrier. Good God man… he has his own cheering section egging him on! C’mon, we know this wasn’t your first time reffing DE’s chippiest-chap. In fact, I’d venture to say you are more than well liked in the DECC or Heritage Arenas, uhhh, not to mention, many local burger & beer joints. Hey Pat, do us all a solid and post a list of your favs, cuz those have got to be the best of the best, in Duluth.

At any rate, while DE clearly outshot Stillwater during the 1st period, Stillwater made good on every opportunity given. That’s generally how most upsets occur, eh? Interestingly enough Stillwater had a 2-0 lead, with the soon-to-be injured player tallying an asst on the 1st goal. After another Stillwater player scored a nice unassisted goal at the 11:00 mark, the momentum was clearly in Stillwater’s favor as they continued to frustrate DE. Then at 12:25, the aforementioned Weeble called a suspect, crosschecking penalty on…you guessed it…Stillwater’s soon-to-be injured player. With the help of the weak penalty call it didn’t take long for DE to quell Stillwater’s momentum with a PP goal. I’m sure all the JAYCE chanters were just relieved that their favorite ref was calling it close, and all in the name of good, clean hockey!

Fast-forward to early in the 2nd period, where the DE legend JAYCE, makes a speedy beeline to his Stillwater target… ahem, who was carrying the puck… and with great aplomb and purpose, unleashes a UFC-style knee thrust with his left knee to his target’s inner-left quad. Very thorough, effective, and oh, very deliberate…unless your inclined to believe Ref Dyers view, through the eyes of the legendary JAYCE, that is!

FYI to Hastings and Brainerd: Both of your games are in Duluth next week, skate with your heads-up and always expect the cheap & dirty play from the LEGEND. Oh, and you just may want to check to see your assigned ref for the games. If not to better prepare yourselves for the visionary genius of Ref Dyer, then perhaps to peruse the list of Duluth’s best eating & drinking establishments. I, for one, am seriously hoping he will deliver. Thanks, in advance Pat!
