Most Over Looked Senior

Who do you feel are the over looked seniors? CJ Pullar (Elk River) comes to mind for me. This kid is a very good hockey player. Nice hands, good size, leader and a playmaker. He's one of the reason the Elks have turned it around, in my opinion.

John Haeg at AHA. Skates along side Mattson and is strong in the corners and whenever he is handling the puck. Undecided about college plans. I would want him on my all start team.

My vote goes to Connor Gaarder from Edina, he is the proverbial Jan Brady of the Hornets and all he ever hears is "Anders, Anders, Anders."

I agree with you on Gaarder. He gets little attention and has the most natural talent of anyone on the team. Off the ice, he may not be the smartest kid, but when he steps on the ice he is a different person. He simply knows the game and sees the ice incredibly well. He takes the losses harder than anyone on that team. He is a very fun player to watch.

I will give my two cents worth here....they are not the best, but I think all three of these guys will go on to play college hockey somewhere.

All seniors at Mayo. All should be on the Great 8 and I am hoping they have good showings down the stretch, make the state tourney and do well in the Great 8. They all deserve to be playing juniors somewhere next year. Probably NAHL for Whitney and Yaggy, and I think Alexander could make a USHL team.

He also has a ridiculous +/- even though he is on the penalty kill. Also, quite a few short handed goals.

Jake Williams and Al McLean are 2 senior D for Duluth East who have played very consistently and are playing there best hockey of the season right now. Along with Joe Arbour all 3 deserve to be in the Great 8 for section 7.

Not to take anything away from the kid...

You are right that power play angle. But incorrect on short handed goals against. If you are out there when the opponent gets a shorty, you get a minus.

Interesting comments on Gaarder being overlooked. Although Lee and Everson have received a ton of publicity its hard to say Gaarder hasnt had the opportunity to be noticed. He has played with the "5 Super Sophs" (Buddish, Baker, Regan, Gaarder, and Everson) and had tremendous publicity that almost everyone else would jump at the chance for, Gaarder has been included with this group both in articles, pictures in the paper and a ton of publicity at the state tourney. I dont think it has been solely just about Buddish, Everson, or the return of Lee. He is a very nice player and would fit into a lead role on any team in the State

A great stat but a stat that is probaly the worst kept stat. I dont think you can look at any of the +/- stats and have much confidance that they are accurate. Some are not calculated, and most are not calculated properly. Hard to compare anyone on +/- unless they are from the same team.

Jake Williams is the first person that came to mind when I saw this thread. Both Williams and Al McLean are solid D, and they don't get the credit they deserve sometimes because of how good Arbour and Forbort are.

I would go Alexander NAHL, not USHL, but thats IF he isn't a headcase, wouldn't want to see him cheap shot a kid or whine and then have the big bruiser come mop him up. Yaggy is a sold goalie, should play jrs somewhere, and whitney, just cant see anything past mnjhl

All 3 are decent hockey players but I see Whitney and Yaggy with the ICEHAWKS. Alexander maybe NAHL if he just plays hockey and keeps his cool.

Voigt, Peterson, & Funk, Rochester Lourdes - Not sure if they're overlooked, but they're rarely talked about.

Willie Hess, Centennial - Pitlick, Pitlick, Pitlick, well this kid is good too.
Zac Frischmon, Blaine - Bjugstad isn't the only talented Blaine foward.

I have to agree with MNHockey Shammel is overlooked a lot and he definately keeps his team on track. With the playoffs coming up here he will need to be at the top of his game to take out Rochester and New Prague, however, I think he can do it and I HOPE he does it. Been a long time since I got to watch Red Wing at the X

Mike Koenig Roseau "D". Heads up team player with good speed and skills. Has the skills to play an offensive style or be a solid stay at home defensive player.

Trevor George Right wing /center from Roseau
George has good hands good speed and sees the ice very well. He is a very consistent player will give 110% every time he steps on the ice. In the corners along the boards he will come out with the puck 98% of the time. In the defensive zone in a tight game he will win the draw just about everytime.

I agree Tim LaBombard and AJ Siro are solid seniors with Jefferson. Andy Peason is another with Burnsville along with Hoffman and Gravelle at EP in the Lake. I know there are others that have stepped up their game. Major contributor's, but not a lot of ink or pub. There are a good number of senior skaters, playing major roles on their high school teams that are not recognized as really good hockey players and can play at a higher level, but will never be given a chance outstand. Unfortunitely, it appears some of the head coaches in the conferences depict a roll for some of these players and never let the senior players standout. Bottom line, you typically win with senior leadership.
