A couple weeks ago when Edina was on FSN they talked about it a bit. It sounded like he was on track, and recovering well. I think I speak for all Gopher fans when I wish Budish a speedy recovery. I can't wait to see him playing for the Maroon and Gold.

I hear rehab is going well... He wants/hopes to be playing competitve hockey this spring. His desire is to be playing for the Gophers next year as opposed to playing a year of juniors. Best of luck to him.

I wonder if he will be well enough to possibly join the NTDP up in Fargo for the U18 World Championship in April? I'm assuming, of course, that they'd want to take him if he had been playing HS all year.

He still has my vote for Mr. Hockey!! Not many players nearly as good as Zach!

Hard to take him for two reasons - Not near ready for that after the injury, and not nearly ready for that not skating for the amount of time that he's been out. May have been deserving had he played this season, but not deserving now.

Would've been a good race this year, but I think he would have had his hands full with some great competition. There's several that would have made this a great debate. Don't think he would have been a run away.

He is probably still deserving based on what he has done in the summer and fall and that he captained the team this summer, but he won't be ready. I'm not sure if you are saying he isn't deserving because he did not play or isn't deserving because he won't be ready, but I'd only agree with the latter.

I hope his rehab is going well. This kid is just what the Minnesota program needs, a big strong bruising forward. I believe this player will make a big impact on our level as well.

Having not played this season while many others have make it tough to just hand out a spot especially after such a serious injury. Not at all knocking him and think he's got a great gift, but the injury will most likely keep him out of competitive action until next fall. That would be the safest, smartest bet for him in my opinion.

Once you get the doctor's OK, that the ligament is fully healed, the problem isn't so much the risk of re-injury but more a matter of regaining muscle strength. This is why totally committing to the prescribed rehab program is so important, because of the atrophy of muscle tissue in that leg. Recovery periods vary, but a good rule of thumb after a typical ACL operation is 6 months in being able to play, but maybe another 6 months after that before your previous muscle mass is fully restored. During this period the skating strength/stride/quickness is gradually regained, but it can easily take a full year before it's back to where it was before the injury took place. I don't have any specific information on Buddish, so all this is just a rule of thumb based on personal experience and a knee specialist (surgeon) and trainer we worked with.

I have endured this process twice although most likely not as severe as the injury he had, which is why I said in my opinion, next fall would most likely be the safest and possibly the best time for competitive action.

This guy is the real deal he is big and can control the puck with his size. I really hope he improves on his injury so he will tear it up with the maroon and gold!
