Cretin and White Bear face-off this Saturday at Aldrich.
-- Last time, this game ended WBL over CRETIN 4-2. The Bears scored 1 power play goal, 2 regular goals, and an empty netter, while both of Cretin's goals were on the power play.
--WBL is playing their best hockey of the year and has won 5 of their last 6 games, beating Flake, Park, MV, Hastings, Roseville, with the sixth game being a 4-4 tie to Stillwater.
--Cretin has won 4 of their last 5, beating MV, Park, Flake, Stillwater, with a loss to Woodbury last night.
--Despite recent injuries, almost all of WBL players played last night against Roseville except for Birkinbine and Dolfay.
--This game will basically decide who clinches the second place spot in the Conference Standings.
If WBL can stay out of the Penalty Box, I think they will easily take this game considering how they have been playing lately.

Left early in third after Cretin scored to take a 3-2 lead. I actually thought WBL was the better team. up to that point.. Brandon Wahlin is growing up fast, and is doing what needs to be done by stepping up when a big gun goes down (Birkinbine). He was all over the ice... Great opportunities abound, but missing the net, etc...
Lowell made a fabulous play on a 2 on 1 and fed Swanny to a wide open net, and Swanny's one-timer went wide. That would have put WBL up 3-2, and may have totally taken over the game, as the Bears fought back to tie 2-2 after being down 2-0.
First two goals were turnovers by the net, and by reading the stats, looks like two Cretin PPGs put them up 5-2 last in the 3rd.

Owen was off...defense struggled...lots of penalties. you jsut cant win with all that happening.mnhcky65 wrote:I thought Owen was kind of off last night.WBLHockeyfan04 wrote:Can anyone at this game last night give me a breakdown of the game? I unfortunately couldn't be at it. Did WBL look flat, or did CDH outplay them? It would be much appreciated.
its been a while since wbl has lost though, so hopefully they can continue the good play in sections

Saw this game last night and the Bears stunk it up but good. Three things lost this game for WBL: bad goal tending, bad defense and bad coaching. Goldfish I don't know what you are talking about with Wahlin... he wont go in a corner first if his life depended on it (hasn't since Squirts) and he is still selfish with the puck... plus if he dips more than a skate in the defensive zone it's amazing. The first line was so over skated they could hardly stay on their feet in the third. Best guy on the ice was Lowell by far. I thought CDH did a nice job without Alt. CDH skaters dangled WBL defense all night long.

Buzz....... you're being sarcastic about Wahlin only having one skate in the defensive zone, right?? He's been playing penalty kill the past three games, because he's working harder, and be rewarded for it.
His game has never been defense, but he's creating scoring opportunities. He had scored twice vs Roseville, and on a 2 on 1 with Wolter, he was positioning himself to pass to Wolter, but Wolter told him to shoot. If you don't think Brandon communicates on the ice, think again.
The hypocritical elements towards Wahlin and Birki (we KNOW those two have carried this age group forever with their offensive play), because he doesn't go into the corner or plays selfish is a fair statement, but, you know what??? You can't score if you don't do the things he/they do. This team would be hurting if not for the offensive play of Wahlin and Birki as 10th graders.
Isn't the game about scoring more goals than you're opponent? Yes, plus-minus is a misleading stat, but it sure seems those guys are on the ice for more goals scored than against. Isn't that the object, to be the better line each time you're taking a shift? Does it matter how you do it?
And yes, Chad Lowell has been a beast offensively. He seems to be a man on a mission.
But again, you bring up another hypocritical statement. One of the best times I have during games is just walking the back row and getting as much feedback and opinions from just about every fan/parent.
One of the biggest stinks about the coaching is because the parents/fans feel the bench needs to be shortened in crunch time, meaning Swanny, Slator and Lowell every other shift... , and when it doesn't happen, Sager and staff get ripped.... Now YOU complain they got too much ice time??? You JUST said how good Lowell was..... so, shouldn't he be on the ice?? Which way you want it???

Goldfish you sure read a lot more than intended into a simple comment. The first line was gased in the third... fresh legs for a few shifts would have helped. A coach still has to be smart about how you shorten the bench in a game. I have only been to a couple WBL games this year and in both games Wahlin's line coasts back defensivly through the neutral zone time after time and lets up way more odd rushes than you should have in a game let alone from one line. Wahlins a good player who could be a great player if he would hustle back and back check every shift out and be a total team player and not just one dimensional. Then again the coach lets him get away with it and this will only hurt him in the future if he wants to play at the next level.

hey goldfish...just remember that buzzer was/is (depending on his age) the best highschool hockey player in the state who went into corners not scared of getting hit, who talked out there...almost to much, who put more than one skate in the defensive zone, who backed checked his hardest everytime he was out there, who scored, who made plays, whos plus minus was way over +100...the list goes on and on...
so pretty much what im getting at is that, like stated above, he was/is the best highschool player to ever touch the ice!!!

It's getting ridiculous. When you're down in the third by two or more with only 8 min to go, you gotta start double shifting the lines that are going to get it done for you. White Bear got outcoached in this game clearly, as Cretins first line with Bangs and Zimmerman matched up against White Bear's third line whenever they wanted to because Cretin knows that Sager doesn't match lines. What's the point of Home Ice Advatage if you're not going to use it!?! Cretins third goal was because of this mismatch when Zimmerman drew the puck back for a slap shot, rebound, goal. Sager has clearly rolled his top unit every other shift in the past, and I don't know why he's loosening up now. Get your head in the game coach!
