HShockeywatcher wrote:EP not accepting that invitation is understandable for two reasons:
1. They would probably have to start in the Bronze Cup, which would make their SOS worse.
2. They already play in the Edina Holiday Tournament, which brings 3 other good opponents, and they have 19 conference games. Playing in the Schwan Cup would complete their 25 game season. Most teams would prefer to for sure play Edina, Tonka and Hopkins than take their chances with teams in a bracket. Additionally, this is the first year they've had 19 conf. games instead of 20. Not sure how far in advance they knew.
Why wouldn't Jefferson be invited?
Even in they had to start in Bronze this year, they'd probably win it, and be among great teams in years to come.
-I'm not sure how the procedure of starting in the Schwan Cup works, just guessing here.
You use the number of conference games as an excuse for EP but not Jefferson. Also I remember you saying Grand Rapids was not a good team to schedule for Jefferson but you seem ok with EP doing the same thing. I'm just not sure I always understand your logic and your point of view.
hockeyjunkie----You are not alone. No one understands her thinking or logic except for maybe herself???
I think SHE should go to a Basketball message board since SHE knows so much about it and so little about hockey?
hockeyjunkie2 and southernmnscout,
Show me where I said that "Grand Rapids was not a good team to schedule for Jefferson." I said Grand Rapids is down this year, which they are, but I never said they weren't a good team to schedule yearly. If Jefferson can schedule the three MN non-conference teams they did on a yearly basis, more power to them. They just happened to catch all three on what I would call a down year.
Even if they were a terrible team, playing them comes in a package deal along with Edina and Elk River for EP.
If Jefferson were to accept they could simply get rid of the 3 ND opponents.
Yes, if what you say were true, it would be difficult to understand. But if you use what I actually said and not what you made up it is much easier.
*I admit, I probably should've used the word "programs" instead of the word "opponents" in what you put in bold.
Jefferson has a long tradition of playing some of the non-conference teams that it does. It would be hard to dump them because one year they are down a bit. A couple of years ago Jefferson was down also, so it goes both ways. It is unfortunate that this year's team as good as they are didn't match up with better teams especially up in North Dakota. Hopefully they will take it to the level they need to for sections.
"long standing tradition"? two years ago Jefferson was in the Gold Division of the Schwan Cup, went 0-3 and instead of playing in the Silver the following year decided to play in the Grand Forks tournament. No excuses, they could've been playing in the Silver Division last year and if they beat St Thomas for it, playing in the Gold Division against this year. Then if they only had one loss at this point no one would question them at #1.
HShockeywatcher,
Find a new hobby man, every thread that even mentions Jefferson you go on the thread and just rip on their schedule strength or you find something to try and put them down. At this point, we get it......Jefferson deserves nothing because they didn't schedule a game vs Edina or anybody good for that matter. I'm sure the rest of the Lake conference just loves how you assume they are just terrible and thats why Jefferson walks all over them. Anyway....we get it lol
dynamicD,
when have a ever put them down? This mentality that if you're not the best you're nothing? I have stated in thread after thread that people like you address me that they are a good hockey team. There's nothing to suggest they are not a good hockey team. Find me saying that "Jefferson deserves nothing" for any reason and I promise to never post again.
It's this mentality that you can make things up and put people down. People use the anonymity of this being forum to say things and put people down in such a way that would sound absurd anywhere else. It's funny really. But good luck with that anywhere else in life.
Let me just say that they have lost 1 game. 1 GAME! Schedule or not, that is impressive. No one runs the table anymore, I just don't see it happening. Every time I think it might happen, I get let down. The last team to do that was this team about 15 years ago with arguably the greatest team ever.
Let's look at facts:
They have outscored their opponents 129 to 30 in 23 Games.
Averaging 5.6 goals a game, while giving up just 1.3 goals a game.
8 shutouts, 7 one goals games, 3 two goal games, 4 three goal games, and 1 five goal game which they lost. So, in 18 out of 23 games they have allowed 2 goals or less.
I have respect for all the teams, but discounting what the Jaguars have done by losing like I said, 1 GAME, is dumb.
I mean, am I under the assumption that with the Jaguars' schedule anything less than running the table makes them inferior to other teams with a stronger schedule? I looked at Edina this year and last and said they just might have the talent to have two perfect seasons in a row. This year they play without Budish and who knows exactly how much more he brings to the table if he does play. They've lost 4 games now, yet they are still possibly better than Jefferson?
The bottom line is that these are high school kids. No one says pick your schedule to the kids. Asking them to win every single game in order to be ranked number one is stupid, schedule or not. You are going to have off nights, it's part of the game. They have brought their A game most of the year. People who want to say that they didn't win convincingly sometimes, well they won, didn't they? Wins are wins, even on an off night if you can squeak by with a win, that is what separates good from great. Maybe all these other teams that are so great should bring their A game a little more often. After all, you're expecting Jefferson to. Either that or learn how to win more games. Besides, if they are so good they should win them, shouldn't they?

The Grand Rapids game and Moorhead game has been going on for years. One of the two for around 20 years, almost since the beginning of Jefferson's birth, if not the beginning. Those two games are undeniably tradition and will never be changed.
As far as the Schwans Cup, I do agree with you to a certain degree. But another thing to consider is they don't have all that many non-conference games so with two being tradition, the Wayzata game has been scheduled for over 5 years straight now (they used to be top 10 or 5 in State) they don't have any room left. The holiday tournament choice is the ONLY place they lacked competition but how were they supposed to know? Last year they played a Red River team that could have been top 5 in MN easily.
Oh and the fact that you have a double standard for E.P. is ridiculous. They don't have to play in Schwans because they have a 19 game conference schedule? So does Jefferson, so why would you say they should play in Schwans?
concerning playing up in grand forks instead of the schwans cup...
last year in grand forks roseau played (lost with 3 seconds in OT), as well as red river (who was VERY good, whom jefferson also beat, although in a shoot out)
again, not their fault even competition up there was down this year

I probably hurt Jefferson this year by not playing some of the local teams.
