Yeah, any of the top 3 seeds could really win the section #1. Lourdes will get challenged during sections though, Red Wing or New Prague could easily pull an "upset". Not an upset by seed but upset by overall talent.Lourdes may get seeded lower than Red wing or New Prague but they still
win this section. To much power for either Red wing or New Prague.

Yeah, lourdes was way too much talent for Mound, Delano, and Albert Lea tooscarlethockey33 wrote:Yeah, any of the top 3 seeds could really win the section #1. with red wings win against NP tonight they should get the 1 seed. As for who will win the section, i cant see any team other than the top three winning(lourdes, RW, NP). As far as play goes of lately i would have to go with RW. There top line is practically unstopable in the offensive zone as of late. just have to wait and see

No doubt!! As we said before the season started, any one of 5 teams could advance from this section... and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Faribault pull out an upset!scarlethockey33 wrote:althrough the top 3 are most likely to win the section, albert lea and west are capable to pull an upset they should be consider to be a factor in the section

According to Red Wing newspaper, it's Sunday. I'm guessing they got the information from coach Nemanich.

Nice, this section has been pretty interesting his season. The seedings will be announced on sunday.
I mean who expected Red Wing to make a run towards the end of the season with their schedule.
Lourdes were the early favors and personally I thought they were the favorite by miles, but now there's doubts that they will win the section.
New Prague pretty much met the mark we expected them to other than their early win over Lourdes.
I don't think anyone expected West to be good at all this season with the huge losses offensely and in the goal.
Albert Lea isn't mentioned that much as of recent They have two guys at 50+ points on the team. They also loss big vs. New Prague and Century, but got wins vs. Mayo and Lourdes. Inconsistancy is their problem for sure

champ...I think you hit the nail pretty much on the head with the only exception being 2 and 3. NP beat Lourdes, and also beat Delano and Albert Lea, while Lourdes lost to Delano and split with Albert Lea, so in my humble opinion, it's hard to seed them ahead of New Prague. However, anything is possible, and I can see it happening either way.

My Section 1A Seeding Projections
Well its getting to be the most fun time of the year in high school hockey the playoffs are set to start this week. The seeding meeting is tomorrow for Section 1A and here is how I see things shaking out as far as seeding goes….
Section 1A Projected Seeds
#1 Red Wing (18-7-0)- This team has proven to be very tough down the stretch run. They have beat New Prague twice handled Albert Lea. And had a big Marquee win vs. Hermantown. They also play the 62nd hardest schedule in the state which is tops in Section 1A. This team is very well coached and plays good defense and seems to be built for a good playoff run.
#2 New Prague (17-8-0)- You have to give the Trojans the number two seed here they beat Lourdes, Albert Lea, Mankato West and East, Northfield and Faribault. There only two losses in the section have come to Red Wing. They also play the 71st hardest schedule in the state good for second toughest in Section 1A. This is a dangerous team with 4 real horses. Could easily get to State however lack of depth and inexperienced goaltending could make this team an upset target as well.
#3 Rochester Lourdes (17-7-0)- Got give the Eagles the nod for the number 3 seed with their win over Totino-Grace today. The Eagles also beat Red Wing, they did spilt with Albert Lea but I think Lourdes has a tougher schedule, ranked 84th in the state good for 4th toughest in section 1A, and also there win over teams like Red Wing, TG and St. Cloud Cathedral should put them over Albert Lea. This is still the most talented team in the section. But as they have shown they can be beat and shaky goaltending could doom this team come playoff time. Can Coach Gill get these guys together and make a playoff run it will be very interesting to see.
#4 Albert Lea (17-8-0)- The Tigers will try to fight for that number 3 seed because they did win the second meeting over Lourdes. However, they were handled easily in the 1st meeting losing 5-0, and they were also beat by both Red Wing and New Prague. I just think looking at overall strength of schedule and Lourdes win over red Wing will put them at the 3 seed and move the Tigers locked in at the four seed. They have had some nice wins late in the year. They have one very dynamic line and will be a headache for any team they face.
#5 Mankato West (14-7-3)- The defending section 1A champs are locked in at the number 5 seed. They have not beaten any team above them in the section but also, have not lost to anyone below them. They are at lock at the number 5 seed. This team still nucleus of kids who went to St. Paul last year and know what it takes to make a run come playoff time. I don’t think anyone will want to overlook the Scarlets.
#6 Faribault (12-12-1)- The Falcons are much like the Scarlets they are a lock at the number six seed as they were unable to beat any team above them but handled most teams below them. The Falcons should not be taken lightly and have the ability to upset anyone. They also have a very bright future last years A Bantam team went 16-0-0 in districts the future is bright in Falcon Country.
#7 La Crescent (12-9-3)- The Lancers have had nice year building off last year’s success. This program under new coach Klingsporn, Rochester Mayo Grad, the past 2 years has started to make strides to gain respect in the State of Minnesota. A 4th place finish at Kiwanis Holiday Tournament highlights their season. They are clearly the best of the rest in this section. With some hot goaltending this team can play with anyone in the section and make thing more interesting then a top seed would like.
#8 Northfield (4-20-0)-It has been a rough year for the Raiders. Even though they only have 4 wins I still got to give them the 8 seed over the other three as they play a much tougher schedule. Their schedule ranks as the 80th toughest in the state, which is good for 3rd toughest in Section 1A. However, as evident by their 4 wins this team is not really capable of anything past a Play-in playoff game win.
#9 Waseca (12-9-1)- Yes the Blue Jays have 12 wins however, a tie to Austin yes they Tied Austin!! and a spilt with Mankato East dooms this team to 9 seed. They also have the 5th weakest schedule in the state. Mankato East does have a legit argument for the 9 seed over Waseca. However, I think their 12 wins will assure them the 9 seed maybe even the 8 seed but nothing higher. This is a team that can put the puck in the net however goaltending seems to be an issue never a good sign for a lower seed come playoff time.
#10 Mankato East (5-20-0)- The Cougars have had a rough year but they do have a good argument for the 9 seed. They swept Austin who Waseca tied and spilt with Waseca. I just think only having 5 wins (one was a forfeit) will most likely put them at the 10 spot. A season highlight was having a player score 7 goals in one game. Might want to keep an eye for him in the playoffs. However, This team should not pose much of a threat to the true contenders of this section.
#11 Austin (0-20-1) it has been a very tough year for the Packers and I don’t really need to say much more. Clearly the #11 seed in this section, Sad to see this program so far in the dumps as they were once a consistently good club down south. Hopefully down the rode they can right the ship but the future look bleak from the sounds of things too bad really no team deserves to go win-less for a season.
Well that’s how I see things shaking out tomorrow lets hear your predictions. Do you disagree with my rankings tell me why make your own. We will find out the true seeding soon enough and the real fun can begin.

Nice post
I think you pretty much nailed it Southern HS hockey guy.
If I'm not mistaken, Waseca has 13 victories. But you are correct, they were all against pretty mucn weak teams except for two nice wins over LeSueuer, a win over Windom and a victory over Dodge County. All showed the progress the team is making and they have a definite chance to knock off a first-round opponent, including Northfield, and get to the quarters. But a trip to Rec Center is a big step too far for now.
And yes the tie with Austin was too bad for Waseca. They had many, many chances to put the game away and didn't do it. And Austin's situation is very depressing for southern Minnesota hockey. A once proud program is a shadow of its former self, despite heroic efforts from the guys who stayed for the entire season (Dooley, Bennett, Figliola, Klingfus, Harber, etc.).
