#14 Duluth Marshall vs #4 St. Cloud Cathedral

Post by HSH1212 »

Duluth Marshall (14-9-1) travels down to St. Cloud to take on St. Cloud Cathedral (21-2-1) in a matchup of previous section foes. The date: Saturday, February 21, the last regular game for both teams.

Previous Meetings:
2007 (regular season): Duluth Marshall 2
St. Cloud Cathedral 0

2006 (section final): Duluth Marshall 5
St. Cloud Cathedral 2

2006 (regular season): St. Cloud Cathedral 2
Duluth Marshall 1

2005 (regular season): Duluth Marshall 3
St. Cloud Cathedral 0

My prediction:
St. Cloud Cathedral 4
Duluth Marshall 2

These two teams were in the same section for four years. In those four years, they faced off in three section finals. Cathedral took the first and Marshall has taken the others.

Expect a good game.

Two very successful coaches who were able to schedule the right game at the right time. Regardless of who wins, both teams are preparing for the playoffs in the right way, playing a tough opponent right before them.

No question on this one...

Cathedral will win by about a mile...Marshall way too young and inexperienced to pose much of a threat. Another down year for Flaherty.

Agreed, playoffs start a few days early in this one. Cathedral is too good defensively tho, and lately Marshall has had bad goaltending and poor effort on the defensive end.

With one of the best defensive units around Cathedral takes this one. 4-1
Look for a very physical fast paced game.

Cathedral has a great squad this year and I actually think they have a legit shot at winning the whole darn state tournament. Willie Paul will be the key to Marshall. Marshall isn't a team that can score 5 or 6 so Paul needs to be sharp and keep it around or under 2 goals.

Cathedral scored 5 unanswered second period goals after Marshall had a 1-0 first period lead. Marshall scored their second goal with just 12 seconds left in the game.

Cathedral 5
Marshall 2
FINAL

Shots 26-24 in favor of the Crusaders.

The Toppers need to find a way to keep the puck out of their net. The last few games, with the exception of the Proctor game, they have been pulling the puck out of their net quick a bit. You can't win a section while giving up 4-6 goals a game.

Did I call it or did I call it. Crusaders are my pick to be state tourney champs.
