I'm not sure what your problem with the seeding is. 1-6 are definitely the way just about everyone figured they would be. 7-10 are a crap shoot. They all have wins against one another and none have wins against the top five, so its hard to argue for or against any order.hockeyrinkrat wrote:would love to see an upset. this seedings are all politics. see what the OFFICIAL prep hockey north 7A stats are and then look at how the schools voted!! Bunch of garbage!!
By the way, as much as I would love to say that the stats on prephockeynorth.com are official, they are not. Its probably about as close as you can get, but the site is not officially endorsed by the MSHSL or the Coaches Association.

If you go by the straight win loss percentages the standings should be different than what was voted on. Just because you are from a bigger school doesn't make you any better than the other teams in your district. If Silver Bay, Ely or Two Harbors had a losing season for the first half of the year but started to win towards the end you can bet that they still wouldn't get seeded like greenway at #5. Where is the fairness in that?
Sorry to see that it plays out in politics and popularity rather than win/loss percentages.

I don't even know where to start... You obviously are not familiar with how the seeding process works. Politics has nothing to do with it. That was the expected seeding - there were no suprises.
Greenway got seeded at #6 by the way - because they beat Central, I Falls, Two Harbors, and Eveleth, plus the had close 1-goal losses to Virginia and Hibbing.

Since Greenway already beat Int. Falls I would say Greenway got a great seed. Despite being 6th, they got paired up against a team they already beat.
This is the SECTION seedings. What matters is how you do against your SECTION opponents. Unlike many sections, the sections up north play many common opponents.

No I definately think by watching Virginia you wouldn't want to play them right now. The seedings are fair and ended up the way everyone expected them to. Its going to be Virginia vs. Marshall and Hibbing vs. Falls like everyone expects. I hope for a Hibbing vs. Virginia battle but I have a feeling Hibbing or Virginia may get upset. Marshall and Falls are two very good teams and the Toppers with Mausolf back are definately contenders for beating Virginia. And for Falls and Hibbing goaltending will be key. Which goalie is going to show up. It may sound cliche' but defense wins championships.
I guess I fail to see why anyone would disagree with these seedings. I think that they are pretty much right on to what I and others have figured through the course of the season.
1. Virginia (Split with Hibbing, Falls, wins over Marshall, Greenway (2) victories over Grand Rapids and Albert Lea)
2. Hibbing (Split with Virginia, Falls, win over Marshall, Greenway(2) losses to Grand Rapids and Albert Lea)
3. I-Falls (Split with Virginia, Hibbing and Greenway, Marshall not scheduled, victory over Hermantown*)
4. Marshall (Losses to Hibbing, Virginia and Hermantown*)
5. Duluth Central (Best record among bottom teams, loss to Greenway and Marshall, Ties or wins over the others.)
6. Greenway (Win over I Falls, Two Harbors, Duluth Central. Losses over the rest, Close games with Hibbing and Virginia)
7. Two Harbors
8. Eveleth
9. Silver Bay
10. Ely
7. Two Harbors
8. Eveleth
9. Silver Bay
10. Ely
In 7A, one through six were pretty much cut and dry.
Greenway deserved the 6 over the other four on the basis of its wins over Falls, Two Harbors and Central.
7-10 is where it gets a little muddy.
Going by results strictly within the section, Silver Bay should be 7, Two Harbors and Ely would be tied for 8-9, and Eveleth 10.
SB beat Greenway, beat Eveleth, split with Ely and went 0-1-1 against TH.
TH went 1-0-1 against SB, split with Ely, split with Eveleth, lost to Greenway
Ely beat Greenway, lost to Eveleth, split with TH and SB
Eveleth beat Ely, lost to Greenway, lost to SB, split with TH
If you start to look at games outside the section, then you can certainly make the case for Ely dropping to 10 and perhaps some adjustments in 7-9.
The problem with voting is it's subjective. One year somebody can argue that seeding should only be determined by games in the section. The next year the same person can make the argument that overall record, common opponents, schedule strength, etc. should be the deciding factor.

Wouldn't that be nice! Its unfortunate that maybe only 2 northern teams will go to state in class A. But I'm not going to get into that argument. I think we are going to see a Hibbing vs. Virginia re-match although both teams could get upset. Any of the 4 can win.Anchorland wrote:I wouldn't mind see any of the top three seeds at state.
