Both teams fighting illnesses.

MV jumped out to 3-0 in the first period. Won every race to a loose puck and took Centennial off their game. Second and thrid periods were even, but Centennial could not breakthrough.

I thought Centennial was overrated throughout the season. Congratulations to Moundsview -- they are a hard-working team.

Having watched Centennial the entire year and having treated a number of their players, I have personal knowledge that they have been healthy all year in terms of having the flu. I can also attest that they indeed had 5 of their top players with the influenza virus, high fevers and two are being treated for possible bronchial infections. Clearly, the Centennial team that played Wednesday night was not the same team that beat #6 Minnetonka or tied #4 Edina. (still think they are over rated?) One would think that they had higher aspirations than NOT to advance to State this year.

Please be respectful of what you say on these forums as many, many young girls with high aspirations log on every day and read what you are saying. Thank you.

Sick or not, that's just how it goes. Maybe they weren't so much over rated, but more so maybe Mounds View was slightly under rated? I'm sure both teams had their sicknesses, boo-boo's, and personal issues. Wednesday night February 18th 2008 from approximately 5:30pm to 7:30pm, Mounds View was the better team. Congratulations!

Watched Michael Jordan have some of his best preformances while as sick as anyone, and left no excuses.

This happens to every team in the state, doc. And I mean every team, from U8 to Division I college. Please don't offer it as an excuse--I'm sure the girls wouldn't.

Yes. I base my opinion on the fact that of the current top 10 AA teams, Centennial faced Hopkins (loss), Minnetonka (win), Edina (tie), and Blaine (2 losses). They also had ties with Elk River and White Bear Lake. Centennial is a very talented team. I simply think a #6 ranking is too high.

I don't believe my first comment was disrespectful, nor do I think this comment is disrespectful. Anyone reading this should take both comments for what they are -- simply one person's opinion.

I saw a bunch of the Hopkins games this year so I had the chance to see most of the top ranked teams. I don't think they were really overrated at #7, I didn't see any teams that didn't have some flaws this year. I think they fit in with the group from #3 to #11.

IMO Roseville and Stillwater stood out as the top 2 teams in the state but even they had some chinks in the armor.

A loss in sections is a punch in the gut for these kids it just ends so fast at least at state you get a couple of extra games. For a senior in sections 12 years of hockey ends in a hurry. I could see where a parent or player would take offense to their kid being called "weak", "overrated", or implyed that they are not hard working. It is what it is, an open forum with fake names. If someone has an ax to grind they all to often do it here. Maybe they had a Cent person do the same to them last year, who knows.

Maybe some of that stuff should stay more on the boys forum. Anyway great playoff season so far, looking forward to seeing some of the great matchups that have been set up.

Very well stated royals dad. Just because I stated that it was a tough lose does not mean that Moundsview did not play better or was not a better team. You adults are reading into it too much. Take written words for what they are. Moundsview has an outstanding and excellent hockey team and I personally know that not one Centennial fan feels different! Centennial fans are amazed at how Moundsview has improved since the Christmas Tourney at Centennial. (which Centennial beat MV) However, with that said, when a team is consistently ranked and has played in the State Tournament there is a mind set that happens. And that mindset was to finish the season at the State Tourney. Of course all teams get the flu. Point is...season ended way too soon for way too many Seniors. (period) And that's tough~for your team, my son's team and the Wild. Further more, it's comments like the one regarding Centennial's goalie that have no place here! Take your win with class! Congrats~yes the best team did win Wednesday night. Good luck Friday.

Okay........back to reality. Centennial has played a stronger schedule than Moundsview. IF, and that's a big if, Moundsview can get past Irondale, I'm pretty sure any of those teams you mentioned would be lining up to play your team. Sorry, but you aren't ready for those TOP teams. :P Good luck against Irondale.
sportsmeddr wrote:And, my bet is on Moundsview to win the Section 5AA Championship game and to even win the State Tournament this year! Centennial has not played a team all season with that much talent.(period) So, I will say one more thing and be done...beware Stillwater, Roseville, Hopkins, and Edina...Moundsview is coming to town! (period!) Good luck Friday.

Maybe some of you should watch the game instead of waxing so eloquently about strength of schedule, reality checks, and everyone should shake in their boots if somebody gets by somebody else on here.

Get real. Every year some teams that you all think are automatics lose and someone that "doesn't belong" gets in.

I watched the third period of this game. For whatever reason, Moundsview appears to be playing better hockey than when they beat Irondale earlier in the year. They appear to be peaking at the right time (I am sure it has nothing to do with their SEC schedule, coaching, talent, or teamwork). They look very sharp and if they play that way against Irondale, they will be tough to beat.

IMO their D shut down the chances and they controlled the puck. They had 3 lines of forwards all clicking. I didn't see it as "even play" in the third at all. Moundsview was in control, even killing off a 5 on 3 at the beginning of the period. I wished I had got their for the whole game like you must have Joe.

However, Wednesday is all said and done now. The Irondale that beat Blaine and the Moundsview that beat Centennial need to both arrive for the game on Friday. One of them win's because the other team loses (probably due to flu, headache, stuffy nose, athletes foot, bunion, bad tape on their stick, etc...).

All of you with your opinions are welcome to join me and watch the game. It should be entertaining. Joe, I know Irondale and Moundsview won't be checking their strength of schedule, QRF, or KRACH rankings to figure out whether they have a chance at winning. They play each other every year, SOS won't matter.

Whoever gets to state, better respect every other team that gets their. Roseville, Hopkins, Stillwater, included.
