As we wait for tonight's scores to come in, I thought I would post a brief update.

We have 11 "combatants" for this contest, which is down a few from the semifinal games in terms of quantity, but certainly not quality. We potentially had a 12th but rocketwrister couldn't find the net and only posted one game. I was thinking about keeping him/her in, just to be sure I wouldn't finish in last place, but I decided to just go with 11 and take my chances.

Anyway, just as a reminder, the following entrants still have some missing scores:

Also, I decided that for this week only a special rule shall apply. For Bensonmum only, who sarcastically (I think) predicted New Ulm would blast Luverne by 18-1, if New Ulm wins by at least 10 goals she will be awarded the 2 bonus points. It's only fair, I think, after Luverne ran up the same 18-1 score against a hapless Redwood Valley team in their opening quarterfinal game.

With four of the sixteen section final game results now in, it's a very low scoring and tight contest so far, largely because nobody has predicted a correct final score.

Our two early leaders are trojangoalie241 and neutralregroup, who've picked three out of four winners for 3 points each. Everyone else has at least 1 point, so everyone's still very much in this thing.

Only one (Joethehockeydad) thought Hutchinson would upend Mankato West, and only three of us (trojangoalie241, neutralregroup and OntheEdge) predicted Cloquet's win over Proctor/Hermantown/DM.

Hats off to C-E-C, the No. 4 seed, for getting hot at the right time and winning their very competitive section.

As it turned out, there was only one major upset tonight, as least according to how our entrants voted. This was Eveleth-Gibert's 4-3 three overtime victory over #1 seed Silver Bay. As a group we went 0 for 11 on that one!

But in the other five games, we fared much better. joehockey picked the Fergus Falls/Alexandria 4-2 score correct, and three contestants - joehockey (again), Bensonmum and hockeygroupie - correcly predicted Edina's 2-1 win over Minnetonka. So heading into tomorrow night's section final games joehockey, with his two correct scores, takes a narrow one point lead over Bensonmum:

Understandable voting re: game where you have the #1 vs #6 seeded team in a section final... Mahtomedi had 5 wins coming into sections and now is playing to go to state, however SSP has defeated them 2x in conf. play but was eliminated from sections a couple years back by Mahtomedi (when Gopher Laura May was still there) I believe.

I notice that once again my hockey knowledge has taken temporary leave or maybe MNHockeyFan just forgot my name on top of the leaderboard. Either way, it makes a great way to keep track of some great teams that I might normally not do!

Another very exciting day of section final hockey. I went to two games late this afternoon and this evening, which explains my late posting of the final results tonight.

Bensonmum comes through with another correct score (Hopkins 3-0 over Maple Grove) and got 4 of 6 winners right overall. In the process she (or he?) was able to overtake joehockey and thus becomes our Prognosticator Champion for the Section Finals Contest. Congrats on the great comeback!

Yours truly got Blake's 4-2 win over Breck right (about time! ) which enabled me to sneak into 2nd place with 13 points. This kind of makes up for my very poor showing in the Semifinal Games contest.

It was a very close battle for 3rd place which ended up being shared by four contestants: Joethehockeydad, trojangoalie241, hockeygroupie and OntheEdge. Here are the final point totals and results:
