Breck vs Blake on 2/21/09
This game is being broadcasted on MSBN on channel 3. Last game breck ponded the bears with a dominating 6-0 win. The game is now tied after two, with a score of 2-2. Do I smell upset or what!

As GoodWillHunting said, Blake played well, and perhaps even out played Breck at times.
The 1st period was full of action, with the Bears out shooting the Mustangs 17-7. It seemed that the Bears were able to keep Rehkamp and Fulton tied up, in that they did not allow them to get the puck in open ice. Both goaltenders made some good saves on point blank shots, John Russell for Breck and Evan Oncay for Blake.
The 2nd period started with a Blake goal at 1:01. Nick Brunette assissted by Ryan Bolluck. Brunette was fed on a rinkwide pass and came into the zone with only 1 defender between him and Russell. Brunette fired a shot from the top of the circle that Russell may have been partially screened on, as it crossed his body and went in high blocker side.
The Mustangs got their 1st goal when the Bears turned the puck over in their own zone, Fulton grabbed the loose puck and beat Oncay on a psuedo breakaway. Their 2nd goal was set up by Joe Rehkamp working hard in the corner, freeing the puck and feeding Riley Borer in the slot for a 2-1 lead. This came just after the Mustangs killed a penalty that had the Bears putting pressure on Russell, but unable to score.
Charlie DeVries tied the score on a rebound from a Blankenship shot from the point. Russell made the initial save, but the puck sat in the crease and the net was open for DeVries to bury the puck.
That ended the scoring in the 2nd period, which had a lot of action back and forth. Both goaltenders made point blank saves.
Shots after 2: Blake 25 Breck 14
In the 3rd period, Joe Rehkamp turned around on a rebound in the slot and fired a quick shot down low stick side that beat Oncay for the eventual winner. There were several chances for both teams in this period. Fulton worked hard on one shift where he set Morin up twice in the slot, but Morin was unable to beat Oncay either time. Russell, meanwhile, was stopping a few Bear shots but it seemed the Mustang defense limited the shots well in the 3rd period. The final Breck goal was a fluke of sorts. Oncay was trying to get to the bench with less than 1 minute left. As he got to the top of the circle, the puck was turned over in the neutral zone and the Mustangs fired the puck towards the open goal. It beat Oncay their for an open-net goal, not his fault.
Final shots Blake 31 Breck 22
In all, Blake played real well and kept this game close. They could have won if a bounce here or there went their way. They had won 11 of 12 heading into this contest, and while it may not have been against top competition, they showed today that they can play.
Watch out for Blake in Section 2A. However, they could end up as a 4 or 5 seed and face Breck in the semi's.
