Ummmm.... Because almost beating someone and losing 4-2 are quite a bit different. They haven't won a game against anyone with a winning record other than St Paul Academy?!?!?! Outside of thier wins in the Tri Metro they have only three wins and they are against Crookston, Hudson and St Louis Park. Not to mention that they average about as many goals for as against. This is not a good year for the Bears. They are a young team that will fare much better in 2 years. They should be the 5 or 6 seed.

My guess is it looks something like this;

Breck
Orono
Mound
Rogers
STMA
Blake
Richfield
Delano
St Louis Park
&
The others

Hey Goldy23, Blake did almost beat Breck yesterday. Sure, the final was 4-2, however the last Breck goal was essentially an empty netter. It was 2-2 after after 2 and Blake outshot Breck for the game. They outhustled them for most of the game, although not by a lot.

Breck is the team to beat from the section, no question. Next, Orono and Mound likely battle for the 2 and 3 seeds, although Blake could be considered. However, I do agree with Goldy23's comments on their strength of schedule. I bet Blake comes in at 4...

Even I was to optimistic for da Bears. Blake is in at #7. They are going to have to win 3 games to get chance at another crack at the Mustangs.

Yea, I am surprised by the #7 for Blake. I had thought 4, as I said, but even a 5 or 6 could have been justified fairly easily.

Everyone is tough in the playoffs, but I think Mound has a better chance at reaching the section semi's than does Orono. I guess I am going on the Blake Bears as the 'cinderella' for the section.

While no one other than Breck is 'feared' state-wide, it should still be an interesting section.

Breck Upset

Post by Backhandtoepull »

I think Orono has a good chance in this section. They have won 5 in a row going into this tournament, and sure, not all have been very good teams but they are playing their best hockey right now. They have a lot of talent and when its put together they can beat any team. Blake also has a good chance. If if comes down to Blake and Breck again in the finals, I think Blake could pull it off. they almost did last weekend. Im feeling some kind of Breck upset!

Yes. Providence's season will come to an abrupt halt against Mound. It must of been one heck of a game to watch against STMA, but even a great goalie like Taffe can only carry an anemic team so far once they play a higher caliber team like Mound or Orono.

Richfield v Rogers is a toss up, but I will go with Rogers in this one

Breck and Orono should also advance rather easily.

And that's the best quote you could steal ??? Impressive.
I do remember those shirts and your right, and your friends didn't have them either.....because you had no friends! So funny one, you see Providence beating Mound?

I see anyone beating anyone in sectionals. That's why I try not to call teams anemic before they play the game. Especially when my team has done nothing for the past 3 years.

Sorry to offend, but I'm simply calling it like I see it. While I agree that Sections bring a different element to the games sometimes teams are just plain and simply overmatched from a talent standpoint as witnessed in many of the first round games with lopsided scores. Providence only had 25 shots on goal in almost 4 periods of Hockey which was actually a high shot game for them! In the 2 matchups with Breck this year they were outshot 103-11 and outscored 12-0. I'm not sure if you're able to get your mind around the fact that it's pretty hard to win when your opponent scores more times than you get shots on goal. Sorry but your "anyone beating anyone in sectionals" comment while good theater, is a bit overboard.
With that said, Providence is a young team that will have its chances down the road. I'm going with Mound in a 5-1 win, outshooting Providence by at least a 2-1 margin.

Oh. And by the way, Delano may get by SLP but they will fair no better than PA after that. :D

Breck walks straight through this section.

It's the easiest road for any team in any section to the state tournament. Because of this they will be better rested and in better condition than any other team at state. Look for them to make some noise this year. Breck is my pick to win class A.

State tournament seeding predictions.

1. Little Falls
2. St. Thomas Academy
3. Breck
4. Warroad

Not a strong section this year for sure, but Orono and possibly Mound on a good night could give Breck a run for a shot at the X.

The last thing Breck needs to do is let up. If they play their hearts out every game then they most definitely deserve to win the section. Breck better be ready to play a team determined to knock them out of the tournament, or else it might just be a season-too-short for the Mustangs.
