Should the tie rule be changed?

Do you think they should get rid of ties in the regular season and play the OTs like the NHL and some NCAA conferences? It would make it more interesting. I would love to see a shootout with the high school players.

Nope, not at all. After battling the whole game for a tie, the WHOLE team should get the opportunity to decide the outcome of the game. Or let it be a tie.

Definitely not. Shootouts are fun for us to watch, but a decision should not be forced upon 2 teams that were obviously evenly matched at that particular time. If the teams are even, the score should be even.

I totally agree. Shootouts suck at any level. Can't do in regulation and an OT then take a tie and move on. In playoffs and tournaments, keep playing till there is a winner.

IMO, No. You had a stituation this past week were a title was on the line and there were three possible outcomes, depending on who won, lose or if it was a tie game. It effected three different teams.

Entertaining as shoot-outs may be (for fans), these games are for the players.

I don't like the idea of a shootout in a TEAM sport ever. I believe you should either tie or play until there's a winner. Obviously it would be nice to not have ties. Logistically this isn't possible during the regular season.

If it were possible I would love to see an untimed sudden death OT every time regulation ends in a tie.

How bout 3 on 3 no goalie?

I played in a game that went in 3 OT with no score and then we played 3 on 3 with no goalie, that was fun but its not for the game of hockey.

Shootouts are fun to watch, they entertain the fans but players are playing the game, I say stick with the rule we have.

They did the 3 on 3 thing in a tourney one time. I think it was Lourdes vs. I falls. Lourdes ended up winning.

They may not all be decided but you would see more games not ending in ties. Would see who is better conditioned, in some cases, (off ice and pratice) with a longer period four.

Definitely not. Shootouts are basically a 1-on-1 skills contest between the goalie and shooter. Sure, they're fun to watch, but that's not the right way to determine the outcome of a game.

No, for the reasons listed above.

Also, there's the logisitcal aspect of this. A number of arenas have multiple games in one night, and they always end up starting later games behind schedule as it is.

MN high school hockey doesn't have that problem. But i'll tell ya there's nothin' I hate more than seeing a game end in a tie.

I know - kinda like kissing your sister. But I have seen games where the kids worked so hard & came so close so many times that it would almost be a disappointment to see either one lose, especially in O/T (unless you're rootin' for one of em).

my son's pee wee team had a 3-on-3 no goalie OT where there was a penalty carrying over against us, so they started the OT 4-on-3, since you need to ahve three skaters on the ice. we won it shorthanded with a shot from the neutral zone.

As a goalie dad, I was so relieved when it went to that third OT with no goalie.
