Controversial Stillwater Game Ending Goal

I was at the Stillwater Roseville sectional final game and it went into OT. The goal Stillwater scored in overtime appeared from behind the net to have never crossed the goal line completely. Now that the video footage had come on television they have blacked out the last play where they supposedly "scored." Rumor has it that they got the play on tape and that in fact the puck never crossed the line. They kept it off the television to avoid controversy. A very unfortunate way for the number 1 team in state to get aced out of a state berth. Should video replay be allowed in sectional final games?

The only people that would really know the facts are the goal judge, goal line official, and probably the goalie.

Outside of that circle, nothing else really matters. Unless of course there was a goal cam? Not that any film would be used in this case.

I was also at the game and parked right on the goal line, top row to the goalies right. I wondered the same as it looked extremely close. I definitely saw that the puck was very nearly entirely over the line at least. I can't say I saw white between the puck and the goal line...too far away and my vision isn't that good. I saw the official point to signal a goal...he was positioned immediately behind the right side pipe. I assumed he saw it was completely over the line. It appeared very close...either way.

I'd like to see the footage cuz I'm not ready to say it didn't cross the line based on rumors in favor of the officials call. I'd have nothing against using replays for section and state tournament play. I wouldn't count on it happening anytime soon. In a perfect world, replay shouldn't be needed...officials should be qualified and skilled enough to be in position to make the correct call...the goal judge too, in just this type of situation.

I too was at the game and sitting near the goal line. Besides overhearing the parents of the line that was on the ice talking to their players who scored about what happened, the players said the goal went in by no more than an inch, but it went in. I was watching the goal judge and his reaction was immediate with the light going on and the ref was as brooky said in PERFECT position right on the net pointing immediately. So I agree that it was a very close play and I give the ref and the goal judge great praise for being on point and ready to make a call. Unless there was an NHL goal cam above the net. There would be no way for the TV station to say accurately say if it went in.

I feel bad for Roseville(tough way to lose) becuase they had a great season and have a lot of class as a program. Their coach seems to get every ounce of talent out of his players. However, looking at their roster seems they return a lot and maybe next year will be their shot.

I also was at the game sitting betwen the bottom of the circle and the goal line to the right of the goalie. From my angle the puck did cross the line and the instant reaction of the referee without any hesitation does not sound to much like a controversy to me. The only controversy is someone embelishing a story with no facts and an extrodinary narrow mind. As far as instant replay - It should not be used in any sport for the simple fact that everyone expects the referees to be perfect but nobody expects the players, coaches, fans and zamboni drives to be perfect. If that is the case should we disqualify a zamboni driver for leaving a chunk of ice behind? Or should we also replay and disqualify a player for delivering an intent to injur penalty in a Section Championship Game?
And how about Yea!!! Stillwater won when it meant the most at this point in the season and they had an incredible Section Playoff. Good luck to them in the State Tuornament.

Sorry Dude! I was not at the game. By the way I have friends on both teams I enjoy the success of both programs no matter what the out come.
And yes if someone actually said that I agree NO CLASS!! These 2 teams could almost have the best rivalry in the state, I have been watching both of them for a long time and every time they play the crowd can expect the best girls hockey in the country in this age group.

We were at the game, and I remember seeing Amanda raising her hands before anyone else knew what was going on. The ref was right there and called it without hesitation.

It was a fabulous game, and both teams deserve congratulations for the caliber of play and for the hard work they both put into the game (and in both of their seasons, as well).

It is so difficult to come so far and then fall a bit short...and it's hard to watch a game like that when you know one team will go home very disappointed.

I'm happy for our team, but I'm always drawn to looking at the other team after a loss like that. It's so hard to watch such disappointment, but that is part of sports. You learn to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat, and all the girls on the ice can be proud of how they conducted themselves.

The Stillwater parents are as nice a group of fans as I've come across. They really support the team, and are friendly and fun to talk with. Yes, I'm sure there are things said in the moment that might be regretted later, but no team...no set of parents (coaches, players, refs, etc.) is perfect.

It's been a fun year and I look forward to cheering for the team tonight. I celebrate how far girls hockey has come in its short lifetime, and all of us on these boards can be justifiability proud of these tremendous athletes. The girls themselves can't realize how far they've come, but we parents should! To think that a few short years ago people didn't think girls were capable of playing such "rough" sports...heh.

Watching all of the girls at the banquet last night was wonderful. It is so inspiring to see such talent, such dedication...in person. Out of their hockey equipment, they are still really just little girls (don't all parents feel that way to some degree)? OK, not so little!

But still...it was wonderful.

Yes it is. The Xcel is set up for it, but most arenas where sectionals are played are not.

I was there. I had a great look at it. I was sitting up high straight up from the goal line on the side the shot came from. Went off the crossbar hit the goalie in the back of the neck and dropped down. Really close but I think it was in. That was one of the best games I have ever seen. Thanks to both teams for giving it all they had. Roseville never gave up. Best of luck to the Ponies. Go out and prove once again that the SEC is the best conference in the state and Section 4 needs to be split up.

I guess I was wrong. They do use replay for girls at the state tournament. I noticed this today watching the Mahtomedi vs. Blake game. And wow, maybe they shouldn't use replay because they overturned two calls that were clearly goals. If a player does not try to re-direct the puck into the net with their skate, it is a goal.

Don't mean to beat a dead horse here, but I have now seen the replay of the overtime goal, and I am now not so sure it was a goal. If I could only send an attachment to this, I could let you all see and be the judge. As far as the ref being right there? Well, according to the video, not so much the case. Perhaps an excited goal judge as well. What's done is done. No argument about the outcome, just interesting footage.
