I think New Prague having the last change over Lourdes is huge. Lourdes had a bunch of trouble containing New Prague's big line when Lourdes didn't get the matchup they wanted. Heimer will have to come up big if Lourdes is to advance and their coching wil have to better than it has. Gill can't be afraid to play his best guys as much as he can, unlike last year and in earlier games this season. Having your best players out there in crunch timewill be crucial.
After that I think Red Wing is playing so well right now that they have the best shot at winning and it would be a decent upset if they didn't.

The big problem that I have seen with New Prague is that they play they top guys so much in the first 2 periods they seem to run out of steam in the 3rd. Sure they have still produced some offense in the 3rd but the games I have watched it seemed as if T.Lapic and Adams were just worn out for the end of the game push. But they really don't have much choice, because when T.Lapic and Adams go out for even 20 seconds you can really tell the difference at both ends.
Lourdes have been very inconsistent late in the season, but all that aside they can come and beat the best teams on any given day. You just never know what team you are going to get; Red Wing didn't look that great against them early in the year but the Red Wing team they might see this time would be a whole lot different.
Albert Lea with Prihoda leading the way could be dangerous as well.
I agree that if Red Wing doesn't come out of this group it would be surprising, but there are 3 other teams that have a legitimate chance of winning it as well. I do think that Red Wing has the most disciplined and the most balanced attack out of this group and hopefully that will carry them through.

alright i see where your coming from cheese, most people have not had the chacne to see them, i just live in the area....but i dont see lourdes or red wing losing to anyone until they play eachother..........lourdes have played somewhat inconsistent hockey but lets face it...they are a big time program with some big time players...the only way they get beat is if they cant find the back of the net cuz their goalie is the only downfall

Faribault is young but talented, they could easily surprise the Eagles early, but I look for the seniors to really step up the leadership on this team during sections.
my predictions for round 2
My Scarlets pass the Tigers 3-2 in a defensive game.
Lourdes over the Falcons, Falcons surprise the Eagles quick with a goal but Eagles being the experienced team they are buckle down in put it out of reach for the Falcons to come back getting 5 unanswered. 5-1
New Prague manhandles La Crescent but the young goalie for the Trojans will let one in late in the 3rd. 7-1 Final
Wingers over Northfield, 6-0. Strong defense shuts out Northfield.
So it's
3-2 MW
5-1 Lourdes
7-1 NP
6-0 RW

Lourdes 7
Faribault 3
Lourdes fire power is too much to handle Voigt with 3G 3A
West 6
AL 2
Trautman will play big in net Bruggeman with 2G 1A
NP 5
La Crescent 1
Only reason it's close is because Lapic and Adams won't play the third
RW 7
Northfield 1
Red Wing is too good to lose this one. They are my pick to win the section as well

lol i never said it was going to happen so dont be a prick on a forum. This is sections and i think anything is possible. Also, lapic and adams will play the whole game and pad stats like the always do when theyr up alot, like the mankato east game for example.
All im hoping for is some good section play. Red wing takes this section to state after beating lourdes in overtime anyway.

Hopefully that doesn't turn out bad for the Trojans, injuries are more likely in the 3rd period of a lose or your done game. We will see. I wish them all the best.southernmnscout wrote:Lapic and Adams will play the 3rd no matter the score, as always.NDfightingirish35 wrote: NP 5

Recaps from the other Night of Section 1A Playoff action
Hey fellow Section 1A Fans,
Sorry I didn’t get to this early I have not been by a computer much. Well Round one of playoffs is in the books and no major surprises as all the top seeds won. I went up Northfield assuming that would be the best game and it really did not disappoint.
Section 1A Boys Hockey Playoffs Round #1 Recaps
#8 Northfield 5 #9 Waseca 4
NORTHFIELD — They didn’t play like a 4-20 hockey team when it mattered the most.
A frustrating regular season is now a thing of the past for the Northfield boy’s hockey team. The No. 8-seeded Raiders opened the Section 1A Playoffs Tuesday night with a 5-4 victory over No. 9-seeded Waseca at Northfield Ice Arena.
“Everything up to this point doesn’t matter,” said NHS coach Bryce Barry. “You’ve just gotta play hockey, and that’s what we did.”
They used a three-goal third period, two of them from Alex Pumper, to keep their season alive. Northfield will travel to Red Wing Thursday in the quarterfinal round.
“It feels great,” Pumper said. “It’s the first game of the start of a new season. It feels good to come out and get that first win. It starts all over now, everyone is tied. No-one is better than anyone else, you just have to go out, work and see what happens.”
“Our record doesn’t really matter anymore,” said senior Tommy Falenschek, who scored the Raiders’ first goal of the night. “It’s 0-0 in the section, everyone is the same. If you win, you keep going. If you lose, you’re done.”
The Raiders came out early, dominating the pace of play and establishing a physical presence. The result was two goals in the first eight minutes.
Falenschek got a steal off a Waseca player trying to glove a puck out of the air, shot and scored 1 minute, 20 seconds into the game to give the Raiders the lead. Jared Docken scored on a wrist shot through traffic at the 7:20 mark on the power play to give Northfield a 2-0 lead.
“It was huge to pop that first one and get the momentum,” Barry said.
Waseca scored with a shot on a bouncing puck at 8:24, then tied it with the only goal of the second period at the 10:59 mark on the power play.
The Raiders had been in control, but it was tied 2-2 heading into the third.
“I told the kids it’s 0-0, you have 17 minutes left,” Barry said. “If you come out, play hard, go to the net and get shots to the net, you’re going to be fine. If you don’t, it’s not going to be the result we want.”
Pumper poked home a rebound off a Cole Jirik slap shot at 4:41 to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead. Waseca tied it back up at the 5:52 mark on the power play, but Northfield took the lead for good less than six minutes later.
Jirik missed the net on a shot, but a rebound came around to Pumper. He waited, turned and tucked a wrist shot inside the far post for a 4-3 lead and what turned out to be the game-winner.
“Cole took a shot and it bounced out,” Pumper said. “I turned around and saw the puck, so I got my stick on it. I turned around and put it right in. It felt really good.”
Docken scored his second of the night at 13:53, skating the puck in and beating the goalie to the far post for a 5-3 lead. Waseca scored with four seconds left, but it was too late.
The Raiders take on the No. 1-seeded Wingers in Red Wing Thursday night.

#7 La Crescent 5 #10 Mankato East 4
La Crescent- The Cougars from East jumped out to an early 2-0 lead only to have the Lancers answer back with 3 of there own to make it 3-2. The Cougars and Lancers then traded goals to make it 4-3 La crescent heading into the third.
In the third period the Cougars were aggressive again getting a goal early in the third to make it a 4-4-hockey game. But La Crescents Timon Schaffner was able to seal the victory with his Game Winning power play goal at about the 12 minute marker of the third period. It gave La Crescent a 5-4 lead and they would not give it back up as they would go on to win by that score.
Senior Ben Tornow notched his 100th and 101st career point for La Crescent in the game with a goal and an assist. While Dan Billar from Mankato East supplied much of their scoring effort with 2 goals and 1 assist of his own.
The Win improved the Lancers to (13-9-3) overall and they head to New Prague tonight to take on the Trojans at 7 pm.

#6 Faribault 14 #11 Austin 0
FARIBAULT — The red goal light didn’t get much rest Tuesday at the Faribault Ice Arena. In fact, maintenance might need to invest in new bulbs.
Blame the Faribault High School boys hockey team. The Falcons couldn’t keep their shots out of the net in Tuesday’s Section 1A first round game against Austin. No. 6 FHS notched a 14-0 win over the Packers and earned the right to play No. 3 Rochester Lourdes on Thursday at Rochester’s Graham Arena.
Eight different Falcons scored a goal in the contest, with 10 teammates tallying a multi-point game — four players netted more than one goal.
Twenty-three assists accompanied the 14 goals.
Junior Ryan Dwyer led the way for Faribault (13-12-1) with three goals and four assists. Senior Bailey Hullett was right behind, netting three goals and an assist in his final home game wearing a Falcons uniform.
“We were working as a team, and our systems were working,” Hullett said. “My teammates put it on my tape, and I put it in the net.”
Sophomore Colbey Hullett scored the first goal of his career, and forward Garrett Gulsvig scored two goals and had two assists against a Packers team that finished the season with a winless 0-21-1 record.
Defensemen Ben Putrah and Dan Mahoney each had three assists.
The Falcons capitalized on 4-of-6 power-play attempts and outshot Austin 59-4 in the contest.
With Lourdes next, the degree of difficulty will increase exponentially. The Eagles beat FHS 6-1 on Feb. 5.
“We’re feeling a lot better,” Gulsvig said. “We put the last game against Lourdes behind us, learning from our mistakes. It’s going to be a different game Thursday.”
There is the Recaps. I will be doing a preview of all the games later if games get cancelled today or I will do recaps again. Anyone know the status of the games in question. I will be heading to Albert Lea to see a barnburner I think if games are a go.
