Is Farmington usually a top squirt team year in and year out? I mean tops in the state. Or is this years "success", if you want to call it that, down on the Farm more of an anomoly? Is it they just have a good batch of kids at this age group?
Forgive my ignorance on this but I don't hardly ever get to see teams from district 8.
The reason I ask is this year I have seen several teams mentioned on this board that you normally don't hear about when talking about top squirt teams in the state. Teams like: Farmington, Rosemount, St. Michael, etc...
I think the always fashionable picks of Edina or Wayzata to win the Fargo tournament may be an oversight this year. For one, those two teams are not nearly as dominant as in years past and they have shown vulnerability this year. Also there seem to be some fresh upstart teams this year and folks always tend to rule out the Colorado teams. They always send good solid squads to this tournament. Maybe because nobody sees them play during the year is why nobody predicts they will do well.

Fargo
Please don't pass judgement on the Farmington hockey community based on bigstick's arrogance! Pretty sure we know who he is...and yes his kid is a Farm Sq A ...barely!! Our Sq A is a good team, and yes they have a handful of very talented players. However, the talent falls quickly on the bottom half. Hopefully, that handful of talented skaters can be successful in Fargo. I do agree...Farmington has not proved anything yet...week district, low-level tournaments, etc. Good luck to all the "kids" in Fargo and let's remember it's a "kids" game!

I for one will not pass judgement on the Farmington hockey community based on BigStick. I am not from Farmington but my son has player with and against most of the team. Your community is very passionate about your hockey. I have seen a lot of Sq A hockey this year and you certainly deserve mention among the top teams. Play well and play with confidence.

I was going to wait for the stick to answer but he has been pretty quiet... on another post he said the 10 year old kids tired out and got beat but had a strong comeback to beat Burnsville in the 5th place game... actually it was the 5-8th place game and the best team in America at this age only beat the Blaze 3-2 with 30 seconds left in the game on their 3rd powerplay goal. (The shots were even) Again Decent team but nowhere near being mentioned in the manner the stick was talking. I think we will see the Big stick come back to the forum under another name...FREDFLINTSTONE wrote:So by all the talk up of Farmtown by bigstick, how did the best team in squirt hockey fair?

The top 8 games were a little more interesting, We beat the Burnsville team after being outshot by them. If it wasn't for their goalie giving up a couple of routine rebounds that we put in, they probably would have been playing Minnetonka in the next round. From what the other Fargo parents say that were at the Farmington game, the Burnsville goalie played a lot better, and he must of had a day off against us.dogeatdog1 wrote:I was going to wait for the stick to answer but he has been pretty quiet... on another post he said the 10 year old kids tired out and got beat but had a strong comeback to beat Burnsville in the 5th place game... actually it was the 5-8th place game and the best team in America at this age only beat the Blaze 3-2 with 30 seconds left in the game on their 3rd powerplay goal. I have read from a few other posts here that BV rolls there lines, does anyone know if they did this with their two goalies? It was hard to tell, as both of their goalies were pretty short and about the same height. I do know that the one that we played was not the one that played in their game before us.
All in all a great tournament.

bville does roll lines and goalies.. no power play or shortening the bench. It was a fun tourney playing that way and letting all of the kids learn to be the MAN in tough situations.. Burnsville will most likely never win the big Fargo Squirt tourney but the kids will be better off as you never know who will be the Man in Bantams. Associations like the ones that go overboard trying to win at this age in my opinion short change themselves at the upper levels. Parents might tell you that it was the best experience ever to win the torney but when you ask Billy who sat on the bench you might get a different answer. Again the pin trading was awesome and everyone won at this tourney,.... even Big stick!!!
humility is a great thing...

thanks for the reply
Thanks for the reply, that is what we expected. Burnsville, or another team that roles their lines and goalies equally, might have things fall in place for them and pull it off. I do agree with you though, the kids will be better off for this type of experience as opposed to poor old BigStick benchwarmer, or I mean poor old Billy!

FARMINGTON! WHO CAN BEAT THE FARMBOYS? Tonka couldnt! Edina couldnt even get there--Flu was the reason, but everyone knows they didnt want to take a beatin before fargo. Blaine here..Blaine Gone. Lakeville is 0 for. Eastview....Huh! Sibly..err no. Woodbury 0 for. Eagan--buh bye. Rosemount... the best competition thus far, but to tie the farmkids was luck. They were out-shot badly.
Lots of you say it depends on what team shows up...and I agree. But consistency is the key and these kids seem to be playing with a whole lot of that. This Fargo Flyer nonsense---if they get into the semis, it sounds to me like they are going to be way out of their league. Do you really want to have another BLOOMINGTON final (11-0????) Whatever. It is what it is.
HOMETOWN BOYZ. STAND UP AND BE COUNTED. Farmington is the best squirt A team I've seen in a long time. I don't think these AAA squads have anything on them and I dont see another assoc team bellying up any time soon. Watchout FERGUS! Good luck to all in FARGO. Can't wait to hear how it turns out.
couldnt resist bumping this up... This is how to talk smack... remember the little stick?
