Section 4

Post by Hansonbrother »

I'm kind of wondering if they can add some additional toughness to this section, I don't think it was difficult enough to get out of. I mean as long as they are going to re-align the sections, perhaps Centennial, Irondale and Moundsview should be added to it. I mean as far as proximity goes, they are all right there. I'm sure White Bear, Stillwater, Roseville, and Hill-Murray wouldn't mind the competition.

Brooky, Melv any thoughts??

You guys whine about certain sections every year how tough they are and they should be broken up, but if you look at the facts, section 4 had 2 very good teams in it this year, 2 above average teams and a group that was average. Section 2 had the same thing this year with Edina and Minnetonka. how about section 6 with Hopkins, BSM, and Maple Grove? Or section 7 with Duluth, Grand Rapids, and CEC? Most every section has parity with their top 2 or three teams, a couple possibilities below them and a group of hopefuls. Section 4 is no different than 2/3’s of the section in the state and once a team makes it to the State tournament, it’s really anyone’s game to win or lose.

The facts:
Section #1 ok the cupboard is a little bare here, but most teams are competitive with each other.
Section #2 Edina’s good and will continue to be so, Minnetonka is also good and can play with any team in the state, Eden Prairie, Shakopee and Holy Angels make this an equally tough section to section # 4 and these teams all will continue to get better.
Section #3 Eagan could play with anyone in the State, Burnsville and Eastview posted comparable records against top 20 teams and Woodbury seems to be only a year or two away from being a contender.
Section # 4 they have two great teams in Roseville and Stillwater but Hill Murray was way over rated and hasn’t shown anything special with it’s .500 record against top 20 teams and a soft schedule every year. My money would be on White Bear or North to contend because they only seem to be a player or 2 away.
Section # 5 Centennial, Blaine, Mounds view and Irondale. This section is really not much different than section # 4 either, they have good young talent, they played really good against top 20 teams. Any of these teams could have a legitimate shot at going to state in any section.
Section # 6 Hopkins, Maple Grove, BSM…any of these teams would be a top team in any section, year in and year out this is one of the most competitive sections in the state .
Section # 7 another section that continues to send Quality teams to State, Grand Rapids, CEC, Duluth, PHD…any of these teams could play in section 4 and do what Hill and White bear did.
Section # 8 Outside of Bemidji and North Wright county I didn’t see any real contenders here, but then Elk River comes along and shows that they to belonged.

So out of all 8 sections the only one I see that is extremely weak would be section #1, other than that the top 3 or 4 teams of any section can play with anyone and I don’t see any section that’s inordinately strong although Roseville and Stillwater were both very good teams this past season.

I'll have to disagree with doc a little.

Hill overrated? Sec 1? (Competitive with each other?). Sec 4 will be even stronger next year and could have 5 top 15 teams.

The question isn't just about realignment. The question is shouldn't the state tournament be with as many strong teams as possible.

I would be in favor of a play down of all teams ranked 1-? Travel yes but most fair. Or how about if you rated AA and A teams together from 1-32. No way did Blake, Warroad, Roseau belong in A this year. Or rate top 8 and then do sections for the next 8 and have a tourney of 16 teams. or even limit sections to 4 and have state start with semi finals.

Yes, this happens every year someone who belongs doesn't make it. Why can't we fix it so 4 or 5 top teams don't make it?

What do you think attendance would've been if

Roseville vs Mtka
Stillwater vs Centennial
Hopkins vs Hill Murray
Edina vs GRG, Irondale, ??

Huge. I would bet 5-10,000. Each session

Girl’s hockey would grow so much faster if this would happen.

Too say Hill-Murray was way overrated is ridiculous. I am a Stillwater fan but had alot of respect for that team. Not sure Doc looked at their schedule to make that comment. They beat Stillwater, Roseau, Cloquet, Duluth, Blaine, and Edina. How could you possibly say they played a soft schedule? After seeing them a few times I would say they were definitely a top 5 team. Section 4 with Stillwater, Roseville, Hill-Murray and White Bear was easily the toughest in my opinion and will be even tougher next year. NSP returns almost everyone, WBL returns all but one player, Roseville returns a ton of talent, Hill-Murray returns most of its top scorers and Stillwater returns 5 defenseman, goalie and 6 of its top 9 forwards. Show me a better section next year if they stay the same.

Agree Stillwater, Roseville, White Bear, NSP and HM should all be top 15 teams next year to many in one section - should move some teams to the weak 3AA (maybe others move to 1AA), others to 5AA and maybe some of 5AA to 8AA? The question is even Sections or present an opportunity to get top teams to State

HM - did ok against Top 20 teams when they played them won 7 and lost 5 I have no idea how that compared to the 8 teams at the X but would have been better than several of them. Rank is team rank when the teams played against HM.

Won 7:
@ WBL 5-1 (#8AA),
Stillwater 4-2 (#2),
Roseau 3-2 (#2A),
@ Cloquet 6-2 (#9AA),
Duluth 2-1 (#8AA),
Blaine (#11AA),
@ Edina 2-1 (#5AA)

Lost 5:
Warroad 6-0 (#1A)
@ GRG 4-3 OT (#4AA)
@ Edina (ABRA) 2-1 (#5AA)
BSM 3-0 (#19AA)
Stillwater 3-0 (#2AA)
