NOICE MAKERS

Post by mnhcp »

I'm serious here, is there a rule about fan noise at youth hockey games?

We can of course cheer.

We can of course whistle.

But can one ring a "COW BELL" or a "NEW YEARS EVE TYPE TOY"?

I also assume it's different at a tournament then it is at a game?

Where can one draw the line? Could a parent bring a Tuba or is just loud cheering/clapping?

D6 rule:

5.2 Conduct
Each team is responsible for the conduct of its spectators. Coaches should advise team parents and other fans of the conduct rules.

If spectator conduct becomes so abusive that, in the referee(s) opinion, it is distracting from the game or inciting the players, the referee(s) may stop play and:
• Ask the coach(s) to control their spectators.
• Ask the coach(s) to request specified individuals to leave the arena.

Disruptive use of artificial noisemakers will be considered abusive conduct. Failure of a coach to cooperate with a referee’s request within two (2) minutes will result in a bench minor penalty and a warning from the referee that after an additional two (2) minutes, the game may be suspended or terminated in accordance with 12.8.5. This situation will be immediately reported to the Supervisor of Officials who will then inform the District Director.

Noise

Noise or Noice?

I think that if a parent wants to ring a cowbell everytime their team scores, you silence that by not letting them score and politely stating after she's done it the third time..."ma'am, I'm sorry, I know you love your kid but if you ring that bell one more time there's going to be a doctor with an xray figuring out how they are going to remove it, now you have a nice day, Oofta!"

Many tournaments specifically state the policy in the tournament rules regarding artificial noise makers. Many arenas post signs that prohibit them. Might as well condition the parents in youth hockey to give them up as the MSHSL rules do not allow them although there are a number of fans at HS games that use them. Maybe their AD doesn't know the MSHSL rules or turns a polite ear to that particular rule.

Minnesota Hockey Youth Rules and Regulations, Article XIV, Conduct, provides:

"C.3. Disruptive use of artificial noise makers will be considered abusive conduct."

Mark Elliott: What does this provision mean? It appears to give the officials complete discretion to decide whether the use of artificial noise makers is disruptive and abusive.

cowbells are completely erritating, kindof like some of the music that certain arenas play.

Don't know the rule for sure, but I think you should bring a tuba to a hockey game and see what they do.                      :rotfl:

I am still confused why there are NO ICE MAKERS allowed at an ice rink.
Do they shovel, then flood with a hose??? :D

I haven't heard any hockey organizations having a cowbell rule.
I have seen several city run community centers have their own rule.

I think the noise makers should shut their mouths for the sake of their kids and the association and watch the game for what it is. A youth sporting activity. Talk to me in 10 years if you think your kid is going pro.

Parents that love artificial noise makers could enter their kids in karate; nobody kicked Mr. Miagi out of the arena for twisting the little drum with the clickity-clacks. Besides, if they're hitting cowbells with drumsticks and shaking water bottles full of beads, how can the rest of us be heard shouting instructions at our kids and obscenities at the refs?
