Who would you rather have (when healthy) and who do you think will go higher in the draft?

Buddish because he is such a force on the ice and he can get his team going better than Leddy can. It would have been really interesting to see what Buddish would have done this year if he was healthy. I think Buddish will go sometime late first round in the NHL draft and Leddy will follow in second round.

I'd also say Budish because it is really hard to find big forwards who can score like Budish, its probably easier to find good offensive defensemen like Leddy, but I think their talent levels are similiar.

Both amazing hockey players, but I have to go with Budish. He's smart, strong, talented and unselfish and makes the players around him better. Leddy is great as well I and I look forward to watching them both play as Gophers!! Budish first round, Leddy second.

Yea but Buddish is going to the Juniors for a year so they will only be on the same team if Leddy sticks around for a while. Personally I think both are potential NHL all stars.

I'm gonna have to go with Leddy on this one because, as a D, he is able to play 50% of the game and when he's out there he is dominant. Not only is he a shut down defensemen, he is also a threat offensively and a cornerstone on their PP.

Leddy, without a doubt. Could be the best skater in the state. He has explosive speed, great hands, great playmaker. I can only imagine his hockey IQ is very high and he see's the ice better than most. The game starts from the goalie out, if the defense can't move the puck, guys like Budish have nothing.

I really don't have an opinion on who is the better player, since both are splendid players, but in terms of draft status, I can tell you, and even if Hockey Scout is around, too, he might throw his words into the mix, that big, scoring forwards are a dime a dozen, and defensemen that can control the game are more rare and much hotter commodities.

The top level scouts will have to believe that Leddy can elevate his defense at the next level in order to be a substantially high draft pick, because under this premise that I have seen over the course of the last few years, the trend has been to take the top talent on defense.

An excellent skating defenseman that can move the puck like he can is a bigger asset to an NHL team come draft time than a big power forward. Now I am not saying that Budish is not an excellent player because he is.

I also think in this case on who will go first it will depend on who is drafting and what they need. I think they will both be picked fairly close to eachother. With all of this being said, I think Leddy will be picked first and Budish will follow shortly after Leddy in the draft. IMO

7 of the top 15 players on Central Scounting's list are defenseman, and then only about 12 of top 30, then it drops off dramatically. This shows the premium on talented defensemen, that, sometimes, teams HAVE to draft for need.

I don't recall the whole draft board from a couple years ago, but when Erik Johnson was selected from the Gophers as the #1 overall pick to St. Louis, there were many who speculated there were better skilled forwards to choose from, but the need for a talent like Johnson was a rare commodity.
