No sooner do I type it in, than they update the site. Most all of the scores from the first games are now on the Fargo Flyers' site.

Not too many surprises. Wayzata, Tonka, Edina,,, and yes Farmington all move on easily.

Close games include OMG over Woodbury in OT and STMA over Jefferson. Each 1 goal games.

Should be fun to hear later tonight/tomorrow from those who are watching this live as to who looks strong.

Edina this...Edina that... muckandgrind is right. Maybe the score could have been 50-0. But mucks comments about Edina "changing their style and potentially created some bad habits that might hurt them..." is pretty bush. Perhaps a well-rounded team would know how to handle and adapt to different playing situations.

Can someone tell me the score of a tough team like Bemidji?

I was at the game. 10 or 12-0 after the first. Edina went to the "pass a lot before you shoot" strategy in the second which unfortunately had the adverse effect of allowing them to score even easier. (some very pretty goals though) In the third they didn't shoot at all, just moved the puck around which in my opinion was almost worse. I'm not sure what else they could have done, they left the score at 12-0 in the arena.

Just call the game at 12-0 and let Edina practice the rest of the hour.

WOW! This is our 1st time here and I am impressed. I'm having a hard time figuring out whether the kids are having more fun playing hockey or trading pins! The sportsmanship is first class and the pin trading is helping some of our shy kids really come out of their shell.

As for the hockey - I can't blame Wadena for wanting to be here and taking part. They should do okay in tier 4 and the bottom line is there are many teams here that could have fallen to the same score to Edina so i wouldn't be too hard on Edina either.

We were just at the Chaska vs. GF Blues OT game and it was a beauty. Back and forth and fast paced. Either team could have won that one.

Armstrong Cooper also looked strong in their win over Arapahoe, CO.

Tomorrow should be alot of fun and so far not too many upsets if any.

Gotta go - This is road trip hockey and I've got a beer calling my name.

Farmington came out on fire and shellshocked the team from Greenbay 5-1. GB couldnt break the forecheck and were out shot badley. Farmington looked tough.

BEMIJI VS FARMINGTON GREAT GAME.
0-0 after one
1-1 after 2

Farmington shorthanded enteing the 3rd period, but worked it out.
Big goal from Tiger defenseman and a 3rd goal to wrap it up 3-1.

Tigers move into final 8.

Next up...MTKA VS FARMINGTON.

12 goals in one period is not needed.

ANother rare rip on Edina! Shockingle. Granted it seems brutal, but thi sis a premier tournamnet for premier teams. It was a L-L for Edina (even though they won). They either score alot or play keep away and the kids get bored and opposing team feels slighted as Edina literally holds puck all 3rd period and dances with it. Another school of though (not nec mine) is if you don't like it, stop it.

Slovakia's women's ice hockey pummels Bulgaria 82-0

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) -- With more goals than minutes in the game, Slovakia's women's ice hockey team claimed an amazing 82-0 victory over Bulgaria in Olympic qualifying.

Slovakia outshot the Bulgarians 139-0 during the 60-minute game, played in Latvia. The margin of victory is a record for a women's International Ice Hockey Federation-sanctioned event.

"We took it as training," Slovakia coach Miroslav Karafiat said after Saturday's game.

Janka Culikova led Slovakia with 10 goals, while Martina Velickova scored nine. Fourteen different players scored at least one goal.

Slovakia, which also beat Croatia, Latvia and Italy, advanced to another qualifying group with Germany, Kazakhstan and France. The winner will secure a spot at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Bulgaria was eliminated after scoring one goal and conceding 192 in the tournament.

The Slovakian men's team clinched its biggest ever victory against the Bulgarians 14 years ago when they won 20-0.

So I guess all the chirping about Farmington winning will end. Obviously a very good team nonetheless.

Saw Wayzata play Front Range this morning. I was very inpressed with Wayzata. Great puck movement and speed.

I remember a squirt game, where it became obvious in the first minutes of play that the teams were mismatched. After the first two goals went in the coach suggested that it would be cool if every skater on the team got a goal, and that's how it ended 15-0. the kids were challenged feeding it to different kids and they turned it over often enough trying to squeeze it in holes that the other team actually touched the puck a few times. I don't think the coach thought each kid would get a goal and 15 is still a pretty large deficit, but it was an interesting way to solve the dilemma.

The best way to solve the dilemm is not have 64 A teams for the "greatest squirt tournament in the world". I know there are several Wayzata B teams that would have fared much better than half the A teams in the tourney. Fargo seems to have gone for quantity and not quality.

Edina should have beat them by 50.

Alright little stick we are all waiting for you to come on and blame the refs or say how much of a lopsided loss because you outshot them 50-4.. Where are you? Did your kid turn the puck over to lose the game? Sorry I had to say it.. God for Bid you lose to Burnsville tomorrow...
