The disallowed goal with 2.5 seconds laeft was clearly a good call. I was sitting right on the goal line at that end and teh net was obviously off the moorings well before the shot went in. Great game between two classic rivals. Friday should be another good one as well. Pioneers have to be the favorite, but Ponies could very well pull the upset.

wow what a game..felt like leaving an extra $5 at the door.
first of all both teams are no factor to be playing Friday next week..but they put on a whale of a show tonight...
W Bear has miserable defense they give up so many 2 on ones and clean breaks its stunning.
On offense W Bear has some creative playmakers and really set up pretty scoring chances, problem tonight for WB was not enough went in the net!
W Bear was the better team tonight....they not only outshot hill but also had three more "shots" into wide open nets that they somehow steered wide if the net, and these were CLOSE in with no goalie..it was amazing.
the disallowed goal was clear disallowed net came off and pushed forward as the shot was taken and it went in...I was on the face off circle in that end and saw it as it happened...stunning to see a shot on net (the puck was in the cornerd with 8 secondds left with 2 hill guys sort of muchking away to end the time but W Bear fed it out front somehow..
THE OT Hill dominated and Zepada beat the goalie with a missle of a shot that hit the crossbar and did not go in earlier in the OT.. W Bear had one good chanc ein OT that did not covert..
then with 1 minute left Zepada (who willed this HM victory by the way) assisted on a wonderful goal by Bahre, clean as a whistle..
Both sides spent much time after the game talkinga nd congratulations.
There is so much less hate and stuff between theses players of these teams past few years than in the 70's 80's an d90's even the fans "get along" much better.
well done both teams..

The Disallowed goal with 2 seconds left was a no brainer - the net shifted about a foot forward clearly before the puck went in. There really wasn't any complaining on the ice, as it was just that obvious. It think it was the 3 open net chances White Bear missed early in the first period when it was still a scoreless game that they should be shaking their heads at. The Bears were buzzing in the first, but couldn't score. Hill scored, and never was behind in the game.

You probably were darn close.pucker15 wrote:owen is going to choke for the 8th staright time and never beat hill and go 0-8 in his career.
hill 4-1
loren french the sopmore with the girls names is going to score the first two for hill, both assited by schulze and one from bahe and the other from holler.
zepeda is going to fly by putney and get the third and westerhaus with the 4th.
birkine will score with 10 second left in the third to wrap up the scoring.

I could not agree with you more you know this White Bear vs. Hill reffing is getting really old and I know you Hill fans are waiting for excuses but I'm sorry this is ridiculous and they need to step up and call both ways this happens year in and year out, another thing shouldn't that at least be apenalty shot if a hill player knocked it off or a delay of game I mean c'mon, I don't know i guess I give up its taken way to much energy out of memnhcky65 wrote:I can't believe it whhte near was the better team, dominated, and won this game. Horrible officiated, it was a goal for white bear with two seconds left. But surprise surprise the refs once again favor Hill Murray.

Did Hill cause the net to move forward, or...?GreekChurch wrote:The Disallowed goal with 2 seconds left was a no brainer - the net shifted about a foot forward clearly before the puck went in. BTW, does anyone have the name of Lechner's assistant? I could be wrong, but I think he's the man in the wheel chair who played on the runner-up '88 team.

Lechner's assistant is Pat Schafhauser and you are correct, he played at Hill in the late 80s. He was paralyzed in a crash into the boards while playing in Switzerland. Really nice guy and one helluva coach. The kids really enjoy playing for him.

After watching the championship interviews, I got the impression he was sort of the brains behind the design of the team's on-ice positioning. Like Centennial's run, it's one of those team's you can replay again and again to see the teacher/student education come to fruition.sllek wrote:Lechner's assistant is Pat Schafhauser and you are correct, he played at Hill in the early 80s. The net moved when two players were battling for position, there was an argument from Lechner, because he felt the faceoff should have been out of the zone. Pat Schaffhauser is the Assistant. I'm still trying to figure out why the Bears fans thinks the ref's screwed them. The worst call of the night went against Hill, when a phanton slash call was made ( maybe a very slight hook ) which resulted in the tying 4th goal
HM - WBL
Wow, I'm glad I went. I know these 2 teams are not in the top 10 in the state, but this was a great game. Tyler Zepeda was a leader tonight and the young Pioneers, especially sophomores goalie Tim Shaughnessy and forward Ben Bahe, really stepped forward. I understand the frustration of the WBLers. This makes 5 times in the last 6 years that HM has ended their season at sections - 3 of those 5 in OT and another, last year, by one goal. I'm looking forward to Friday night. Stillwater has played everyone tight all year.

I was not able to make this game but my dad was texting me updates and calling me frequently and after watching hill play twice this year all I have to say is- Great job Tyler Zepeda. You totally turned this team around. To go through that much and still cary the team on your back to the finals is truly amaizing. I am very impressed.
ppl who complain about sta being A are just mad

I told the neighbor kid during warm ups, "If White Bear shuts down Zepeda, they'll win." Zepeda: 4 points. (2G, 2A)
The Hockey Gods wanted it this way. White Bear Lake had so many scoring opportunities they failed to convert on. This game could have easily been 4-1 after the first period, and 10-4 by the end of the game.
I don't know what mnhcky is talking about, the game was officiated just fine. I didn't see a single blown call. Both teams had power plays, and both teams had power play goals. If the White Bear fans want an excuse as to why they lost instead of admiting they simply didn't bury the puck when they had several wide open nets, then hey, they should have allowed the goal with the net a foot off.
Hill should be the favorite vs. Still Water Horseys but this game will really go either way. It will definitely be a change of scenery at the X this year if the Horses pull it off.

I agree that he's not particularly clutch, but I think you are forgetting the section final last year where he held the state champs to 2 goals. He kept the Bears in that game and nearly won it for them. It is a shame he had to end his career this way though.captainjimmy18 wrote:Collette's a choke artist. The guy has never won a big game in his high school career. Every time they play hill he gives up a solid 4-5 goals.

Where do I begin. I guess I want to make it known to people that haven't seen Tyler Zepeda play. He is one heck of a high school hockey player. He was the best player on the ice tonight, and without him, they're not playing Friday for the section championship. I thought overall WBL was the better team tonight. More puck control, more scoring opportunites, more overall speed, but really failed to capatilize on numerous scoring opportunities. I still don't know how Slator missed that open net 2 minutes in. It happened right in front of me! I'm also quite disappointed in OOOOwen Collette. He really let some softy's in during the 1st and 2nd periods. You need to have better than a .700 save percentage if you want to win. It's unfortunate that his high school career had to end with yet another below average performance against Hill Murray. I think the key point in this game was Hill always answering after a WBL goal, with a goal of their own. They never trailed in this game, and Shaughnessy was the better goaltender tonight. I'm disappointed that WBL didn't pull this one off, because I thought they played their best hockey of the year in the 3rd period tonight. But Hill Murray is a well coached, good hockey team. And players like Zepeda deserve to be rewarded for what they've been through.
Also, for those questioning the disallowed goal with 2.5 seconds left. I probably had a better angle than just about anyone. I was directly right of the goal, in the 1st row area. The net was bumped off, right when the shot was being taken. It was a good call by the officials, and shouldn't be used as an excuse in this one. I really couldn't tell if a Hill player knocked it off, but it was off right when the shot was being taken.
