Doglover - i would agree if this was most any other team. But this is Breck - they will likely be playing at Excel in March. They are Jr. laden team with lots of talent. The older stronger more experienced players will see most of the time. Younger guys will develop, but at crunch time, too many talented older guys with in this program.

For these upper tier schools, I think it's a testament to a lack of depth in their team if they can't muster up two lines that are stronger than any freshman. Even the best players to come out of Minnesota didn't have a big significance their freshman year, if they even played at the High School level. A freshman is just too young and underdeveloped to perform on most high school varsity teams.
Of course there are exceptions, and I don't know these people being discussed, but I don't see many freshman making a huge splash on a respectable varsity level hockey team.

The Mustangs had a great showing in Moorhead, beating Moorhead 5 or 6 to zip and beating Minnetonka as well. Traina will be a very good high school player but will start out on the third line. Another Breck freshmen - Austin Rudnick is probably going to see more ice time early on. He is an outstandingly talented and tough defensemen.Doglover wrote:Sounds like Breck will have a strong team. The defense hurts this team more than anything else, other than the coaching (when up against decent teams he is broadly out coached) that is. Anyone who wants to beat Breck just has to plant someone behind the defense for a breakaway. All they do is pinch and play out of position so you will only have to beat one guy. Reed Herd is the only speed on D and he thinks he's a forward. Breck is overhyped and poorly coached. D takes more shots than the forwards, stop them at the point where the forwards are forced to play D (or the shots are being launched by D when they happen to be in position) and they are beatable and will be. Blake should have had that game, lucky win for a team that was outplayed.Goldy23 wrote:The Mustangs had a great showing in Moorhead, beating Moorhead 5 or 6 to zip and beating Minnetonka as well. Who is Traina? Never heard of him, or Rudnik? Only on your list Goldy, no one elses.
Breck should sew up this section, on that I agree. But will never get past the Vannelli's superior coaching and team. Too bad, they have all the talent they need but not much else in this program.
In AA this should be Edina and Giles' year, but Minnetonka is looking good and might just pull off the upset this year.

Got to watch Breck play this week. Rudnick hits hard but still needs to make some adjustments to contribute significantly to this team. This often happens when guys move up from Bantams, but his potential is clear.Cardiackid wrote:Actually the Rudnick kid is a 93 who is on quite a few "lists" he is an above average d man with great feet and is very coachable. I believe he is from Champlin Park. Not sure why he left.
Traina hasn't impressed me much this week, don't know what the rest of his season has been like. I was talking to a guy from Omaha, there are a lot of eyes on this team, should be interesting to see what this talented Junior Class creates next year. Sounds like there are some coaching concerns however. He heard they passed on top talent for an unknown. Anyone know the story on this?

Yeah, their coach is an old pee wee coach from Elk River or somewhere, years ago. Has some connection to the Breck "recruiter", can't remember his name, but he's old too and has been at Breck forever. I heard he, the recruiter, dogged the top picks in favor of his buddy who as it turns out isn't much of a coach. You can see this when you see them play good teams. They'll go down fast if they make it to the X. Did you see him kicking the wall and swearing when Rogers scored on them? Class.stuckinthebox wrote:Got to watch Breck play this week. Re: freshman varsity hockey players
Rudnick has already been talked to by Wisconsin. He needs to get taller but he is a beast on the icemch wrote:traina will not make that much of a contribution to breck. he's a very good player but they enough depth at forward that a freshman won't play very much.High Flyer wrote:F-Travis Boyd/Hopkins (again)RushnCircles wrote:who will make significant contributions to their respective club?

rudnick is at breck, his size should make it easier for him to adapt to the high school level and he could very well make a contribution
