He may not be on the roster, but there is an Alexander J Nicholas at St. Johns. Doesn't seem to have facebook though, so can't tell you what year he is, or where he went to high school.

Though he may have been a good player, college hockey is 100% politics, so he could have easily been screwed out of a roster spot by one of the guys from California, Colorado, or Utah who have no business taking a spot away from a Minnesota guy.

Alex Nicholas is attending St. John's University and is not playing hockey for the St. John's Hockey Team. He rooms just down the hall from me, and is playing on an intramural team with me. Don't know if he plans to play next year or not, doesn't seem to really be that big of a deal to him.

No one made the team before tryouts, what I'm saying is they came here soley for hockey. I've spoken with people as well, and one of the guys from out of state is in my symposium. He is a rock, no way he got in for any other reason than hockey.

Hill,

That's hockey after High School. Sometimes a coach has to promise a kid a spot to get him to come to a school. The problem arises when kids are promised something and NOT given it. That's unethical. From what little info is given here, it doesn't sound like that was the case here.

It's not politics, its called collegiate hockey. Coaches recruit players so that they can win and retain their job. Any coach at the college level that doesn't know his lineup going into the season (in other words, has to have an actual tryout becasue he doesn't know who can do what) should and probably will be fired.

Coming from Hill, I'd think that you would understand the recruiting process. Sorry, Hillhockey - just having a little fun. Bottom line, this is the way college hockey works.

college hockey

Post by hillhockey »

I just feel that there is more talent in Minnesota than any other state and MN kids should be looked at closer than out of state kids. It seems like a lot of people here really support home-grown talent. There it is-keep MN colleges up by using MN kids. Other states couldnt keep up if it weren't for MN kids going there. For example: a few years ago when colorado won the frozen four, where was their goalie from? Woodbury, MN.

i don't even know what there is to argue about. Nicholas didn't even try out, so i don't know how u can blame politics for an out of state kid taking a spot from him if he didn't try out. His roomie is from California, tried out, made the cut and deserves his spot. This arguement is pointless, u will encouter it everywhere. if a player plays his best on the ice and holds nothing than he shouldn't have to worry about whether a coach F&#S him over or not because true talent will be recognized, especially at college level. just my 2 cents
