I dont know what to think. Grand Rapids fired on all cylinders for two games and have struggled the last two. Brainerd outshoots Flake 30-13 and loses. I think if Grand Rapids comes to play that they will handle Brainerd 6-1 or so, but if they let up at all it could be a 3-2, 4-3 game going eitehr direction...it should be a good section 7AA hockey game...I expect full intensity. The team who stays out of the sin bin wins.

_________________

BOB

Paul Bunyan

Post by elliott70 »

Well, first....

If you are not aware of your history, you may believe Brainerd is the home of Paul Bunyan, but....now the rest of the story.

Paul was born in Akeley Minnesota. If you do not know where that is, well than you do not know Minnesota, so get a map.

Paul spent most of his adult life along the shores of the upper Mississippi River from Becida to Bemidji and a time or two a little south in Walker and Hackensack.

Eventually he amrried a Hackensack girl and settled down on a little strip of land between Lake Irving and Lake Bemidji.

In his old age he moved north and spent time on the south shore of Upper Red Lake and on his passing was buried in the wonderful community of Kelliher not far from where Karl Petrowske is spending eternity.

Paul may have splashed around in those puddles around Brainerd a bit, but lived most of his life 'up north' in 'God's Country'. Sometimes called 'Greatest Minnesota' by the big city folks. They don't know better - it is not 'Greatest Minnesota' - it simply is 'tMinnesota'.

So Brainerd enjoy your little statue, but the glory of Paul is still in the true wildnerness 'up nort'.

The teams are similar...
both need to have a goalie prove himself (or herself.. must be PC)

No question Patrick and his linemates are talented offensively, but Carl and Ryan will be on the ice half the game if Ty is doing things right...

I will give the nod to the home team with something to prove after the Flake fiasco...

4 to 2 with an empty netter by Billy's Boy the Blonde Wonder.

Elliot I think your prediction is right on. Brainerd has not been running on all cylinders yet. The goalie situation is a large part of it and needs to be settled asap. When one guy is told your the man that will make a big difference. I think the nod should go to the senior who has more varsity games under his belt. When that happens everything else will fall in place. Brainerd has alot of depth and that will help them in the end.

shots

Post by boblee »

I am not so positive about Brainerd outshooting Grand Rapids. Rapids has put up a lot of shots in a couple of games (51 against C-E-C and 38 against V-MIB) granted Brainerd put a few more shots on net against Flake, seems as though Rapids still scored 3 more goals. Establishing a goaltender? I think Rapids has found a quality one in Jensen. 2-2, not so great, but look at his stats. GAA under 2.5 and a save % above 93%...good enough to win games, good enough for top statistics amongst starting goalies in the section...

_________________

BOB

That is what the schedule says...sometimes they move the time up to 7 tho, but I would stick with the 7:30 unless you see it different somewhere.

_________________

BOB

Also out of Retirement....

Post by AngusYoung »

The hot rumor in "Braindead" is that one of our own fine poster's in this fantastic forum is planning on coming out of retirement and donning the stripes for this evenings tilt. I know a few of the "Shady Bunch" will be heckling BIAFP if this rumor comes to fruition. My own personal guess is that he will take in too much of the "entertainment" and libations @ the Blue Ox Lounge and miss the start time of the game. Go Indians!
