7a coach/asst coach of the year - who will it be?

The list of nominations came out today for coach and assistant coach of the year. Who will it be?

7A NOMINATIONS FOR COACH OF THE YEAR

HEAD COACH

John Prettyman (Int’l Falls):
-“John got the most out of his kids for the year.”

Keith Hendrickson (Virginia-MIB):
-“Won both the IRC and the Section Titles, and have been the
most consistent team from start to finish this season”.
-“Virginia start out the season 4-4, and continued to work and improve
throughout the season. Won the IRC and Section Titles and is very
deserving of this award”.

Kurt Mattila (Ely):
-“I have never seen someone so dedicated to the high school and youth
hockey programs in Ely. He truly loves this sport and the kids he is
involved with”.

Steve Wasko (Two Harbors):
-“Coaches of programs with little talent don’t get recognized enough”.



ASSISTANT COACH

Gary Cornell (Virginia-MIB):
-“Best assistant any coach could ask for.”
-“Won both the IRC and the Section Titles, and have been the most
consistent team from start to finish this season”.

Al Svir (Two Harbors):
-“Coaches of programs with little talent don’t get recognized enough”.

I'd say Hendrickson. He led his team to the State Tournament for only the 2nd time in school history, won the conference, and has coached them to something like 12 straight wins down the stretch. He would get my vote.
