Students Sections in the Rafters!!
Why are the student sections for the AA state tourney up in the rafters of the X? This took away from the atmosphere at the games. I heard that the A session was much louder than the AA session. I think a big part of that is that for AA they stuck all of the students in a different area code and the lower bowl was reserved for "other" HS hockey fans that did not necessarily have a tie to a team. The student sections should be down near the band and near the ice, this is high school hockey after all. Can anyone tell me what the logic is here?
One good thing about students not on the glass.... You don't have idiots turning around, facing the camera and waving every time the puck goes in the corner. I saw that last night. It's been like that forever, I remember seeing it at the old civic center. Very annoying when you're watching on TV.
I agree that they should make some room in the lower level for students. On the other hand, the season ticket holders that were sitting in those seats today were actually watching the game. They pay good money months in advance.
Mixed bag.

We had this conversation last year. The most frustrating part of it is that they won't let the 2nd game students move to the vacated lower level seats of the students from the first game. The reason - according to ushers is that after the first game they "hold" those empty seats for any "dignitaries" who may be looking for a seat! Silly, but we have to live with it.
Not only are the students in the rafters...I think they've cut back on the number of tickets allotted to each school. I've been to both the X and the old Civic Center for the tourney. The X is a beautiful and luxurious arena. But the X and the MSHSL have absolutely destroyed the atmosphere of the tournament. It's an absolute travesty what has happened. For those of you who don't remember the pre-X tournament...the atmosphere is night and day.

Kids don't spend the money, the parents and the people who are not affiliated with most schools do. Plus there is less of a chance of the students taking seats that do not belong to them, then harassing the people who have the seats. But did you happen to see all the Edina students in the lower bowl? Again Money talks......
It all depends on the size of the student section. Some schools last year (Woodbury, Edina) brought more students to their first round games than schools like HM, BSM or Roseau have in their entire school. There just are not enough tickets in the lower deck to fit 1300+ students in the same section(s), so they move groups that big up top. It sucks, but I don't know what the solution is.HockeyMN1 wrote:Last year Hill was on the bottom for the championship game... do they move them down for later games?

the way tickets are given away is that all student tickets are supposed to be upper level. the adult tickets sold from the school are lower level. Most people find people leaving and ask for their stub or they switch tickets with their parents.
