Hey I hate Edina as much as the next guy. All I am saying is that Budish, Lee, and Everson most likely could have left but instead stayed to win state, but they fall short every year. Congrats to the Spuds for winning, and congrats to Edina for a nice short run. :D

Edina 8
Moorhead 0
They didn't "match them" - they outplayed them. That crow doesn't taste ANYTHING like chicken, does it?

Otown, if you want to combine schools lets combine rams/warriors.....11 titles. Edina has a combined 9...end of story. Why are you turning this into a bashing contest?

Edina plays an extremely tough schedule and ended up with a phenomenal record. They handled the #1 ranked Jaguars like piece of cake. They were the #1 team coming into this tournament.....and there was no doubt about it. Mhead plays a tough schedule and had a decent record but it was nothing to brag about. Mhead was the underdog. Mhead won the game because they "exposed" Edina's defense to 5 goals.

I think Edina took them lightly, but you can't discredit Moorheads play at all. They've toughed it out this season, even through the tough times.

Lookie what I found:

East isn't his team. His team is sitting home watching.

Here's another pic I thought you'd all like. Looks like the Spuds brought a big can of Raid to the game....

Although I know everyone on here is happy that Edina lost, you have to feel bad for the Seniors on that team. There hasn't been a harder working, dedicated group of players in this State in a long time. Unfortunate that they came up short again. But my hats off to them for the work they've put in, and also the the Spuds who came to play and were fearless against the giants from Edina.

Blame it on Giles...are you kidding me?

I'm sick of hearing this blame it on the coach thing. Yea, they played poorly tonight. They got upset by a team that they didn't see coming. Clearly, they were looking forward to saturday.
But getting his team to one of the toughest high school athletic competitions in the country three years in a row, one of them without his best player.. and you blame it on the him? Some coaches might just give up and throw in the towel for the season if an injury like this might occur.
His players obviously thought something of him with the best kids on the team attracting interest from top-notch schools. They did not take the bait.
I know Giles and he doesn't deserve any blame whatsoever. He is a quality hockey coach with years of experience (he knows the game) who has put forth a quality team over the past years, despite the crap he has been handed by snotty parents and a select few on this forum. Please don't blame it on Giles.

Good luck to Moorhead!
p.s. tear this apart if you like but i stand by my opinion. ok i'm off my pedestal.

I am also extremely proud of this group and disappointed it was not to be for them. Thanks, bardown, for this expression of recognition to these great players and people.

Moorhead played a very good game. I still feel that this Edina team can be unbeatable when at their best (such as they were against Jefferson). I thought they would be able to carry over that level of play. But they struggled to bring their highest level often this season, and it happened again tonight. Early in the third, Edina was bringing it like they needed to all game. But Moorhead was able to capitalize on another opportunity, and then just started rolling downhill.

All the Moorhead fans who were thumping their team can feel vindicated here tonight. I expected they would be good, but they still exceeded my expectations. Congrats and good luck to the spuds.

Moorhead always works hard no matter what they're up against and it paid off for them tonight. I hope the Edina fans enjoy the mariucci, its almost as nice as being at the x.

I think everyone should take a good look at this. Edina is a heck of a team. It's not that easy to win when you have a bullseye on your back.
Everyone said Roseau lost last year because of their weak schedule.
Maybe we can put that to rest now.
Congrats to the Spuds.

No question Edina has a very talented group of players and I don't think anyone saw MH coming to this level. Too bad Budish wasn't there all year for Edina but that's hockey. Congrats to the Spuds.

Edina's defense was off tonight and they didn't look like themselves. It's too bad, it was theirs to lose. There shouldn't be any talk about "what if they had Budish" because they didn't and they lost it.

Ok. I guess feeling sorry for yourself about losing your best player is not the best way to look at things. I'm saying that even without their best player- they (Giles and his assistants) put a great team on the ice and made one hell of a run for it.

One note about mariucci- its cool to see Budish get two last looks at it as a high schooler. In a while it'll be home for him.

I heard today that the last three times that Edina placed second in state; the following year they came back and won it. Looks like that streak was broken today.

The underdog 'Meerhead Sputniks' take down the Cake from the Emerald city. That is quite a story that adds to the legend that makes the Minnesota State Hockey Tournament what it is. From Rochester to Roseau, you just have to love this great game of hockey!
I kind of enjoy the fact that Grand Rapids beat this group as 'super sophs' and Moorehad sealed the deal as Seniors. No disrespect to Edina's strong program it is just nice beating you boys once in a while.

I think with this loss (Lee and Everson going scorless), and Leddy scoring and being a huge factor in EP's win, it cements Leddy as the 2009 Mr. Hockey. There is no way they should give it to an A player that played a weak schedule. Nothing against Ben, he is great, but it should go to a AA player. Just think how dominating Leddy would be in A.
