Wow. With two seeming upsets happening in the evening bracket, one is hard-pressed to find a reason, a good reason, why both Edina and Duluth East lost.

I found it!!

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Max Tardy -formerly of Duluth East- played for Moorhead last night!! Yes, that would explain why Moorhead won (who wouldn't want Tardy on their team?), and why Duluth East lost.

Blame it on Giles...are you kidding me?

I'm sick of hearing this blame it on the coach thing. Yea, they played poorly tonight. They got upset by a team that they didn't see coming. Clearly, they were looking forward to saturday.
But getting his team to one of the toughest high school athletic competitions in the country three years in a row, one of them without his best player.. and you blame it on the him? Some coaches might just give up and throw in the towel for the season if an injury like this might occur.
His players obviously thought something of him with the best kids on the team attracting interest from top-notch schools. They did not take the bait.
I know Giles and he doesn't deserve any blame whatsoever. He is a quality hockey coach with years of experience (he knows the game) who has put forth a quality team over the past years, despite the crap he has been handed by snotty parents and a select few on this forum. Please don't blame it on Giles.

Good luck to Moorhead!
p.s. tear this apart if you like but i stand by my opinion. ok i'm off my pedestal.
Right. Giles deserves no blame.

It is a disgrace to three times bring a team with this much talent to the tournament and come away with nothing.

Funny stuff. Poor Max, no wonder he had nothing left in the tank for the third period of playing for his regular team! Mike shouldn't have lent him to the Spuds. Image

A huge congrats to the Moorhead team. They played extremely well in all facets of the game last night and deserved to win. I will be rooting for the Spuds from here on.

Thank you Edina Seniors for all the great moments you gave us fans, finish strong and keep your heads up.Image

Wow. I never would have expected this. Moorhead definitely deserved to win that game..

For all the nay saying I did, I feel sheepish.

Sheepish is the best word to describe it, since I also picked the Sheep over the taters in the sections. :)

Go spuds!

UofM you are just wrong! The chant was in bad taste and if I were from Moorhead I'd be ashamed of the students. That's poor taste and bad sportsmanship.

Good luck to Moorhead - I hope they win it all! They looked great on the ice last night and really came to play. Congratulations to their players but I hope their fans show more respect and better sportsmanship tonight.

Waiting for the players to come out last night after the game,I was very impressed with the way the Edina players and their parents handled a difficult loss. They take a lot of crap on this board, but they showed nothing but class.Just a great group of kids.Best of luck in the future.

Obviously I am joking. Giles is about the only person i respect in their program, but he can only do so much with the little talent his team had this year.

I blame the loss on Lapanta; if you listened to him all year, you would think that Edina belonged in the NHL. He's probably taking the loss harder than anyone.

Edynasty is over

Post by blueblood »

So much for the "Edynasty."

They got beat by a team that outworked an outplayed them 5 on 5.

Both teams got 2 pp goals, but Moorhead got 3 goals playing 5 on 5 to Edina's 0.

I kind of enjoy the fact that Grand Rapids beat this group as 'super sophs' and Moorehad sealed the deal as Seniors. No disrespect to Edina's strong program it is just nice beating you boys once in a while.
Enjoy it while you can. Next year the hornets will be the underdogs with some talent... :)

They are losing:

Baker
Regan
Lee
Everson
Gaarder
Eppel
Budish*

A lot to lose. BUT...

They are returning:

Taft
Sit
Chapman
Jarrett
VanVoorhis
Max Everson
Ankeny

Definitely some talent there. Cutshall, Kretzman, and some other returners also might have the ability to step up and be solid if not big contributors. I'm not sure about what they might have coming from Bantams...

4 of the 5 on that list are just over hyped metro players. The real talent is graduating. They will be another average metro team next year.

Edina won't be an "average Metro team" next year. I'd be surprised if they aren't Top 10 for AA schools most of the year.

There must be 80 or so Metro teams, right? 70? They'll be a lot better than average. I'd agree if you called them an average Edina team, even though I think they'll be a little better than that. Sit, Taft, Van Voorhis, and Everson are pretty good. Ankeny too.

It will force Giles to play more lines. The Edina teams that won state in the 1980s were deep, deep, deep. This team had players, but the reliance on the top guns skewed contributions.

A little premature to declare Edina dead.
Be kind. Rewind.

Well Roseau said we werent CLASSY so we thought why change it now!!! Go Spuds Ill think of something better then that tonight!!
Another thing is the cities radio was dogging Moorheads student section with there chants, they were false. We chanted things such as "SHOCK THE CITIES" an they thought it was F*** the Cities or Chocolate cities?? I dont know how they got that Moorhead would be ripped by the administration of they even said he sucked or a player sucked!! And if you want to compare student sections we were better cause it payed off ripping on little johnny boy all second period. I say we cause yes I am part of the student section and yes I do know hockey if your wondering....HIGH PLANS DANGLER  ...So someone needs to clear the air there. Go Moorhead Get it done tonight!!!

im eating my words.... great game from moorehead. they looked great! should be a great semi tomorrow
size of the student section is determined by the state, not how many are want to attend. Last year the Roseau section was sold out in under an hour...maybe Moorhead could move to a wealthy suburb with political pull, so they could get more seating?

It seems every year there's some school, whether Edina, moorhead, etc where the student section starts chanting and really makes the school/community look bad. "where's budish", "overrated", "siv, siv, siv", etc all are mickey mouse. try and fool people, act classy.

They have no talent coming up from Bantams. This years A team was one of the worst in a long time. Not even ranked in the top 15 for Bantam A I don't think. I think they will be alright, but no where near the level they were at the last 3 years.

no not much talent coming from the bantams but we should see some great leadership coming from Taft and Chapman. Also I'm not sure if Van Voorhis is staying or not. this may be a rumor but I hear that he is going to Ann Arbor next year. confirmation on this?

EDINA- 2

This is it boys. This is our year. Yess, we all know Edina is a ranked number one, and it will be a tough defete. But i believe deep down that EVERYONE in the stadium is going to be taken back at the game we bring to the X on thursday. All of you are counting moorhead out right away because Edina has the impression on everyone that no matter who they play, they will slaughter. Not going to happen this time. This will be a close, intense game. And our student section will be BRINGINN THE HEAT. Marks is at his best game, and he's not going to let much go by him. All of you Edina fans, i'd be getting a little nervous. These boys have been working their asses off to get here. And they're sure as hell are not letting it go down the drain like we have in the past. This is it. BRING IT ON EDINA!
Its comments like these that end up embarrassing the person and the city in retrospect. I know your excited at the possibility of knocking off the #1 seed in front of many people, but please control your emotions before you make a mistake, I would hate to see you get embarrassed in an online forum with as much prestige as this, thank you.
Not so embarrassing now, eh? :D

HAHA. SIT DOWWWWWWN edina!!
Theee most impressive/intense game of my life. I told you we could and would do it. -- do not underestimate us by judging us on our previous season. We can come back booming, and we did.

Moorhead just completely knocked down the number one team in state.
YAY. We love our hockey boys :):)
