"(Insert name here) was Johnny-on-the-spot there." Which wouldn't be so bad, except he says it like 4-5 times a game. It gets pretty old.

"I think if your name is Nick then you're a pretty good hockey player" General statement about the tourney, specifically Bjugstad and Leddy

Kid 1: What happened to Lou Nannie?
Kid 2: I think he died

note these kids were no older than 6-7, i had a good chuckle out of it.
 Thats good. I started laughing out loud when I read this. I love Lou when he's not homering for Edina.

One of my favorites this year was today in the Cathedral Vs. Warroad game when Housley kept calling Alex Koopmeiners Koopenheimer

After Warroad tied the game against Breck at two

"You can see the ice has tilted to Warroad". Or something to that sort. It makes no sense at all.

What was that about "putting hair on a coach's back?"

Even Matvick was laughing at him...

Oh man Matvick couldn't even control his laughter after hearing that one.

That was a good one. His best. Here's a couple more...

"If Warroad gets a PP goal, they're right back in it!"

Matvick: That could be the final blow.
Housley: I think that could be it.

*Warroad gets a penalty while on the powerplay*
After the hair on the back comment,
"When you do that it, it, it, it nullifies the powerplay."

This was my favorite:

"Little Falls came back from three goals down to score four unanswered, and Hanowski had the game winner. They scored four unanswered and Hanowski had a part in all three of them."

I thought Phil did a much better job the last two days, but the hair on the back comment was a classic!

As for the comment after the Hill / Stillwater game I will say that the kid he cursed to stood toe to toe with me, looked me in the eye and told me that yes the comment was made to him. A wee bit of history is that this kid was awarded the captainship by his teammates when he was an A bantam and since he was going to Hill, Housley wanted the "C" stripped from his jersey. The coach refused and after much fuss from the Stillwater board he either quit or was fired. He is now the Hill-Murray JV coach.

The guy is awesome. When he talked about the "hair on your back" i thought I was hearing things until the people I was watching with started looking around with a confused stare and Matvick started laughing a bit later. Then listening to Housley try to justify why he said what he did was even better. Being at the X for the others, this was the only game I really watched on television this year. Bring the guy back next year. It's great entertainment. You never know what is going to spew out of his mouth.

Holy crap you people must be PERFECT! Plus, you have WAY too much free time for such an insignificant subject! Amazes me... Housley is actually a hockey genius... he sees the game in slow motion and is actually a very technical, highly detailed coach... just doesn't convey it that well on the air unfortunately... like someone else said here, NONE of you could do any better... has anyone on this board announced a live, on-air hockey game at the high school level? hmmm, that's what I thought - much tougher than you think a_ _ inines

Doesn't convey it on the rink either.

Great player does not equal great coach.

Have you done it? How tough is it? Others make it seem easy - Housley makes it seem very difficult. He said John Mariucci's records are safe, and never will be broken- compared to Housley -Darby Hendrickson is a genius. Polverine -it's all in good fun :D

GreekChurchlady - I think Phil does a great job and makes excellent comments and has insight that blows away ALL other announcers, guests and color analysts during the tourney... nobody comes close to his knowledge of the game - best by far

I counted the adjective "great" in a Darby H. sentence SEVEN times today. Now THAT is genius!!

I think that's probably why KSTC needs a better announcer. I'm willing to take a chance with someone here though. :D

The other thing I would say is that even though Lou can occasionally say something obvious, it is the way in which he says the obvious that I find much more compelling than Housley. The latter's a nice man from what I hear, so having him on isn't the end of the world.

O.K. Wilson, we're all sorry for picking on you're dad. He is at the pinnacle of sports broadcast color men. He should quit coaching, and go work for Versus or FSN full time. My apologies, I just didn't see it.

Nanne

Post by dontcallmeshirley »

My favorite two Nanne ones came in the Edina game against Moorhead

"They don't want Edina to get the next goal in this game." talking about Moorhead.

"Forehead." (trying to say forecheck and Moorhead)
