Let's not joke ourselves here, it has been and will continue to be a gopher recruit award.
Did Pohl play tougher comp then Hanowski? I don't think so.
Hano broke his record.
Spehar won the award after breaking the goals record
Hano broke Spehar's goals record as well.
But of course it goes to the kid from the big town that plays AA hockey.

Maybe then Hano should have gone to the gophers if that IS the reason leddy won, Or Leddy was just a better player?

Congrats to Mr. Leddy. I was on the fence a bit before the tourney, but he won me over completely with his performance. We had a great field...Lee and Everson complemented each other wonderfully, Mattson was great in the few games I saw him in, Tardy put his team on his back down the stretch, and it's very difficult to deny Hanowski the award with the year and career he had. But I definitely think they got the right guy.

Agreed. #3 was a true standout in the tourney. When he decided to take the puck up, it didn't even look like he was trying to blow past the opposing defense, but he did without even faking a move to the inside. Along with his speed, hands, and shot he surprised me with how strong he was on his skates, some guys would try and hit him, but they were the ones who took the punishment. Reminds me of an Aaron Ness, but stronger. Those two will be fun to watch next year!rinkrat90 wrote:Didn't see him in the regular season. But, he was by far the best player in the State Tourney.
Congrats on the great accomplishment #3!

Congratulations to Nick Leddy! The award went to the right kid. I'm with you karl, i hadn't really seen him play before the tournament, but he definitely won me over as well. He has the ability to take over the game no matter who he is playing at this level, which is evident in his ability to get points in all three games in the class AA tournament as a defense man. Hanowski is certainly a great player but I think he lost his chance in the Breck game. Once he played a team with speed, he couldn't do anything, and Leddy just kept ticking away. Once again congratulations Nick Leddy!

Go to the list of past winners and you tell me, how many out of how many winners went to the Gophers and then get back to me with your stats.
More then anything what they did today, was they basically told any young person from central Minnesota that you have no shot of winning Mr. Hockey no matter how good you are. Because you are not from the Iron Range or the cities, and you do not play AA hockey.
That is a horrible message to send.
The only exception to this is Pohl but they could give it to him because he was going to be a Gopher.
Now I do agree the Leddy is VERY GOOD and deserving, but after seeing Hanowski's body of work over the last 4 years, I feel he was more deserving.

I agree that it should be over the course of a career, but you have to remember that the state tournament is when everyone is watching. People are going to see your skills and their decisions are heavily influenced by what they see right now.Jbone wrote:Yeah I believe that it should be more of a Mr Hockey award which would include all the years of high school.
Not a Mr. Tournament award.
Good player in Leddy who deserves it... but Hanowski also did alot with his overall career.
I have said this before, but voting for Mr. Hockey takes place before the State tournament. So their play this past weekend had no effect on the outcome.hshckfan08 wrote:I agree that it should be over the course of a career, but you have to remember that the state tournament is when everyone is watching. If we were to buy your line of thinking, then the award would never go outside of a Gopher recruit as much as it has in recent years. You made it into something that isn't backed up.SCSUHOCKEYFAN15 wrote:Go to the list of past winners and you tell me, how many out of how many winners went to the Gophers and then get back to me with your stats.
I can understand the bitterness on your part (especially after the Gophers beat your team six times this year and just ended their season) but it doesn't do your argument much good to make up comments that aren't backed up with fact.
Leddy excelled all year long against some of the state's best opponents. He is strong offensively and defensively. This isn't a one way player. He was great all over the ice.
