Ill just add one more note to this topic Roseau will be good this year and for the next 10 years as far as i can see. they will walk on morrhead at every level but high school this season with relative ease. so yeah better start recruiting for the future years now or it cold be a long drought for the spuds.

The Rams have made steady progress during their down years. The town has been patient knowing the Spuds were a very good team, and I think they will again be solid. The Rams are very hungry and determined to make a mark this year. Still, they have to go through Moorhead to make it to the "tourney". Gotta love the green and white!!!

Section Final

Post by mnhockeylvr »

Wow...crazy predictions. I think that we have to grant three things:

1) Roseau is way better this year than last year

2) Moorhead has enough talent to play with Roseau

3) These teams always get up for each other in the section games.

That said--I still like Moorhead in a section final, they always seem to play better in that game (if only they could pretend the state final is a section final). All i know is if the game happens on Mar. 4 I will be there for sure.

10 years...maybe 4

Post by Renegade Ram »

Sorry to spoil your rose coloured view sncbn but Roseau has a 3 possibly 4 year window and then will be down again compared to other teams around the area as they haven't been real dominant at the youngest levels like they were with the group coming of age. Ten years....those players have barely even started to skate yet. Think before you make statements that goofy. Walk on Moorhead at every level..I'm a Ram fan as big as the next guy but to make stupid statements like that you have to be a basketball guy in a hockey town.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... m>Renegade Ram at: 11/17/05 10:28 pm

3 possibly 4 year window?????

Post by Bucks10 »

Renegade Ram you need to check your facts. Roseau Youth hockey is strong right down to Tiny Mites. Last year Roseau Youth Hockey's cumulative record was 186 wins and 76 losses. In recent years, Moorhead has decent teams but last year Roseau dominated them in the youth ranks right down through squirts. Two years ago when Moorhead won both state Bantam tournaments they barely made it out of regions due to very good games against Roseau. It appears that team is already falling apart with players leaving and others threatening. Roseau will have a run of dominance of at least 10 years. I will stop at 10 becuase younger that that have not played a competitive game yet. The only other teams that have shown some potential is Bemidji at the PeeWee level. TRF is having number problems and LOW is rebuilding. Warroad needs to do some heavy recruiting because they are on a serious slide right down to the lower ranks. Within the next 4 years Roseau will have at least one shot at a state title and as history has shown, they will win!!

numbers

Post by bear11 »

Your point about numbers is not correct. I have a cousin who plays peewees in Thief River Falls and the only group that has number problems is the Bantam age. Peewees have 35-38 players and they will be very strong. I know they have had three squirt teams for the past 3 years because my son has played them. He told me that the bantams have 24 or 25 the bottem line is that I think kids are starting to cut themselves by bantams if they have not made the A team.

Bucks come on now if your counting down to tiny mites your nuts. Your buddy above is talking about eight year olds and is trying to project them as CHAMPIONS. If that isn't the stupidest comment made I don't know what is. You yourself are trying to project 10 through 12 year olds as section champions, step back and think about that for a second - that's ALMOST as dumb. At least FORTY of your youth wins came at the Bantam A level itself. Your domination of Moorhead down through the ranks other than Bantams is bunk. The Warroad Pee-Wee team made it to the state tourney, where was Roseau? Watch and learn right now Roseau has a FOUR year window, that's all the farther anyone should be looking. That is all that can be counted on for now and that is no guarantee as Moorhead seems to gain players as they get into grades 10 through 12. The road to the Excel has to run through Moorhead and possibly a St. Cloud school a time or two. What you tend to forget is that enrollment in Roseau IS declining and will decline faster after the Wyoming?? plant opens. While the F/M area is growing at a one of the fastest rates in the entire midwest. I just think you guys are getting way too hopeful stating "Roseau will have a run of dominance of at least 10 years" that's just plain nonsense. Let's revisit this in three years when it's way more feasible.....

It is pretty hard to think a team will be good ten years from now. Four or five is max. A lot can change.

I did not say that Roseau would win the state title for the next 10 years. I said it looked like they would have dominating teams. Just because you have a dominating team does not mean you will win, right Moorhead. And speaking of Moorhead, you need to give more backup information when you say that the state tourny trip goes through Moorhead. Do we need to compare the section and state tourney stats again between the section 8 teams?

Sumarry and conclusion: It looks like Moorhead's program will not be as strong as it has been the last couple of years. Any one of Roseau's youth teams that have come to town have shown they can play with any team in the state.

Do we need a history lesson?

Post by Renegade Ram »

Ram Hockey can fill any errors in Ram Lore if need be. Roseau began playing hockey in 1908. There were several forms of HS hockey sponsored by various groups, American Legion mostly over the years until the high school tourney as we know it began. The first MSHSL sanctioned tourney took place in 1945. The best source for Tournament history is on Lee's site use it and learn. Roseau racked up a large majority of their Region/Section Championships prior to Moorhead HS ever having a what could be called a viable HS program. One of the Spud fans should be able to tell when Moorhead's HS program started in earnest. Roseau had 16 appearances prior to 1970 and had a total of 24 prior to Moorhead ever reaching a Section final game in 1986 which they got thumped by Bemidji 10 - 0 with Big George leading the way. The Rams then added 2 more appearances for a total of 26 prior to Moorhead winning their first Section title in 1992. Since 1992 the year of the split...the Spuds have made trips in 92, 93, 94, 95, 97, 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 all tier I or AA with a boat load of bridesmaid banners. While the Rams made appearances in 98, 99, 00 winning a State Championship. In fact, let's go from 1990 and give the Rams 2 State titles and 5 appearances. That's 10 Spud appearances with 6 silver stars and 2 bronze stars to 5 for Roseau with 2 gold stars - Roseau also played Class A hockey from 94 - 97 not getting out of the Section while Moorhead won the 8AA Sections 3 out of those 4 years. Both teams will be good the next three - four years and THEY will be the reps for 8AA. Now prior to 1990 I would say the road TO St. Paul was through Roseau but since it has been and will continue to go through Moorhead until history is written. Summary and Conclusion: The North won the Civil War with God and the Largest Army...you figure it out.

Could be the Rams will finally find a way back into state. Feels like they've been gone forever. The Spuds just seem to reload however. If they meet in sectionals I'll journey up from the cities to watch it. If I have to make a pick, I'll take Roseau in O.T. to make it back to state.

Whichever makes it into state, I'll probably want to win the whole sha-bang.
