There is no #8 seed.
He's talking about Tartan and Johnson in 4AA.
If thats the case, he's posting in the wrong place - this one's for Edina / Hill on Sat.

FINAL

Edina 5
Hill-Murray 2

Not the way they probably wanted to end it, but a win nevertheless and some hardware. Congrats Edina on a fantastic season and some tremendous careers.

Hear, hear.
Classy moves to stay and play out the HS career, imo.
They'll all still be very succesful in whatever they do.
And they'll be able to say they stuck with their friends and teammates til the end.

Nice moment towards the end of the game. Giles set up the shifts so that the Everson/Gaarder/Lee went out for the final shift of the game with about a minute left. The Edina fans gave them a nice ovation. About 20 seconds later Everson put in his 4th goal.

Sucks that Budish couldn't play his senior year with his buddies. But by my count those seniors went 81-11-1 in their careers, went 3-0 in section section title games, all against top 6 or better rated teams, and brought home hardware in 3 straight tourneys.

Not to resurrect a dead topic, but I still don't think this Edina team had dominating talent once they lost Budish. I think last year's team, with Budish and Joe Gleason, both high level D-1 talents, was better equipped to win it all. This year's team won alot of respect from me for putting together a damn good record against a brutal schedule and making a run even without Budish. Props to them.

HM - Edina

Post by stpaul »

I was at the game. This was no toilet bowl. Nice effort by our Pioneers. They had no answer for Everson, Lee & Gaarter especially when they were on the PP. What a great two weeks for Hill-Murray. OT wins over WBL & Stillwater, another section title & trip to state & taking EP to OT after falling behind 2-0. This was great experience for the young kids that make up this team. This group will be very good the next couple of years. Congrats to the 4 seniors - especially Tyler Zepeda & Jeff Westerhaus (who scored a goal today) and Coach Bill Lechner. BTW nice turnout by the HM faithful at Mariucci today.

Unfortunately, I agree that they will be extremely good the next two years - and then some.

Does the 81 wins total count the time Anders Lee decided he'd rather be a Cadet than a Hornet?

11 years since the last state championship by the Hornets, and only a consolation championship this year with what many thought was the team to beat.

Does Giles keep his job?

YES. As long as he wants to stay there.

Edina

Post by stpaul »

People seem to have forgotten that a few years ago Edina hockey looked like a thing of the past. They had been passed by their neighbors Minnetonka, Wayzata & Eden Prairie. No state appearances for 6 years. Now they have been in it 3 straight. Their JV team is very good. Giles is a very good coach. They will be back contending for state titles.

But anything short of a title in Edina is a disappointment especially this year with this talent they had but you can only imagine what this team would have been like with Budish. Honestly i don't think any team would have been able to compete with them.

That's putting a good spin on the unfortunate recent history of always being the bridesmaid (or worse) but never being the bride. Apparently the Edina Bantam A team didn't live up to the high expectations Edina hockey boosters and fans have for all Edina hockey. But in fairness, it would be tough for anyone to consistently meet those expectations.

Just wondering what director the program is headed in -- another down period, getting passed by neighboring programs? Or more section championships?

Whoops, sorry.

Won't bring up the "STA years" again. It will be our little secret.
