Oh so you are one of those guys who likes to base everything on the past. We wouldnt want anyone to get better and pass anyone up now would we!!!

My point genius, was in response to your opinion that the D in question was "one of the better defensemen on the team". My point was that Blaine must have been pretty spectacular to 'best' three guys that were honored to be sent to New York last year. I'm sure his superior play and coaching father will advance this player to the group of 54 and hopefully respresent Minnesota this year in Rochester, NY.

As for getting better, you're right. He did dress every Varsity game last season (vs. JV the previous year) and even would get a few shifts in games against weak teams and where Blaine was way ahead late in the game. Let's hope everyone continues to get better, including the system for the Advanced program.

Sec. 7 goes 1 and 2. Lost to Sec 1 6-5 in a shootout Friday night. Lost to Sec 8 5-4 yesterday, beat Sec 3 6-3 this morning. Good squad, not much puck luck this weekend, goalies may have been off with the addition of a 3rd goalie who was actually cut last weekend. Chopped their playing time down by a third which didn't exactly seem fair to the two that made it. Several from this team should advance - Forbort, Youso, Skrbec, Decowski, Lutzka...

Section 8 went 2-1 to win consolation. Lost to five 2-0, beat 7 5-4, and won today 3-0 over 2.

Section 5a/aa won championship.

Shut-out first 2 teams they played. Beat 6a/aa 4-2 in championship game. Gave up only 1 goal in tourney 5x5. Other goal was on penality shot. Should have some D and a goalie or 2 and forwards advance to next level.

Section 1

Post by summer »

It is too bad the favoritisim just keeps going on, I understand when a coach is familiar with a player or group of players, it will be hard to break into that group, one would really have to stand out. I also understand Section 1 is a pretty weak section, and the coaches probably think it really doesn't matter who they choose, they can get some exposure for their favorites, or some small town kids who never get any. I have it on good sources that the coaches had clip boards with "their" 20 kids from the first practice, and talked to and encouraged only those 20 kids during the "try-out".

I also would like to see the results, and who the big scorers were. When will the state team be chosen?

Final 54 should be out on MN hockey website in the next couple days.

No bracket but I think the final standings shook out like so:

1st Section 5
2nd Section 6
3rd Section 4
4th Section 1
5th Section 8
6th Section 2
7th Section 7
8th Section 3
Stay Classy, Minnesota.

Section 1 kids played very well.

We won a thriller on Friday night 6-5 shoot out Austin Goalie Aaron Dooley stopped 6 shooters in shoot out and one or two penalty shots for penalties.

he let in two goals in that game

After that he did not let in a goal.

in second game we lost to the Section 5 group the only goal was on a penalty penalty shot they went on to win the tournament 4-2 and were a very good team.

We played a great second half after falling behind 1-0 and 3-1 closing to 3-2 and then ending the 1st half down to section 4 5-2. We really played great and again Aaron Dooley did not let any goals in the 2nd half and we only managed to score on a penalty shot.

We had several of those and many good chances to score in the 2nd half I credit all the guys with playing so hard.

Many of our players hopefully will go on as they all played hard every shift and showed that we have some very good players in our area.

We had a very strong roster and could easily have won the tourney with a bounce or two in the semifinal game and the third place game and we could have easily lost all three if we lose the shoot out. So it was a good bunch of kids at the tournament. Lots of fun.

I thank Will Fish, Chris Prescott and Tyson Anderson for all thier work the past few weeks it was a lot of fun. And I especially thank the parents and players making my last weekend as a coach very much fun.

Section 7 has been picking a bad team for Advanced. The top players are right, it's the bottom of the team that is terrible. Adding a 3rd goalie after the parents whined (so I hear) because he's made it before is wrong also.

So besides the third goalie (what a joke, btw), who shouldn't have been there? They had 2 games that could have gone either way and played pretty well as a team. Just my opinion though.

The D picks were bad IMO, except for a few (Forbort obviously belongs there). A couple forwards had no business being on this or last year's teams. And how do you not take Belisle?

Section 7 evaluators got the results they deserved. Goal tending picks were weak. Was tromp the 3rd tender picked? S hould have been #1. ?Hibbing forward stompahar had a 1g 2a in the tryout scrimage. Hibbing coaches and Refs hold their home players to a higher standard (unfair) so nobody can accuse them of favoritism. Just as bad or worse than the "politc" blunder. better wake up before u totally ruin it with playing favorites. coach/manager section 7 from hibbing only 1 hibb player picked? 3virgina 3grandrapids 3dulutheast 3ANDOVER 1hibbing?

Neither does the Cambridge player. And the 3rd goalie ( from what I hear) was Matt Ray after not getting picked at all.

I`m thinking section coaches for sure, at the 5AA/5A try-outs Eric Aus(Centennial) was one of the evaluators...

How are the final 54 picked? What does the process look like and who is involved... section team coaches obviously and evaluators, how about High School coaches...??

first off the section 7 team is a joke some kids on there that dont belong, there had to a couple better kids than some that they picked. Parents must be slidin $ under the table or are on there knees.

As for how the final is picked it is suppose to be all the coaches and there staff involved, each team is suppose to try and get a young coach to go with them and just see what it is like and see what they see, and the rest is based from some pretty darn good evaluators, like MN hockey, USA hockey, and great coaches from the past.

Say what you want but there is WAY to much politics and favoritism all the way up or down which ever way you want to look at it. I have been involved in teams where a kid who was ranked the lowest by his coaching staff in the first round at Wayzata made the final (national) team, this was done without any input from the coaches. The explanation was that the guys upstairs must have seen something that the coaches didnt. If that were the case it would seem easy enough to call in the coaches and get there thoughts, have a discussion and review selection together if there was such a big discrepancy why ask coaches there opinions if they are not respected. This is why you dont have the best coaches and pure hockey people involved. As far as section 7 I have seen some very bad injustices made at the selection process. Maybe they should send coaching staffs to differnt section tryouts to evaluate so you can attempt to minimize some of these problems and they ARE problems. Its not the stars but the kids on the bottom half that can be evaluated unfairly. These kids have worked very hard to get there and should be evaluated properly. Because a kid isnt great at 16 doesnt mean he cant be great at 18. Give the kids the oppurtunities they have earned. Do not hand out gifts.
