I would expect to see another tight game tomorrow. I really believe the game will be decided by the defense. Stillwater is going to have to give Sobczek some help she cant continue to do it all on her own she's played 1100+ minutes this season. Their power play has also been a weak point and if the opportunity arises they better make it count. I look to Rosevilles D to play consistant and coach Brodt to make moves as needed to take advantage of any weak points. It would be a good game to win for either team and obvioulsy dont want to get ahead of themselves, but I would sacrafice a conference banner for a Section Banner. If both teams can play their way through the section they could meet again after tomorrow.

Defensmen Clare Shaw recieved all conference and forward Emily Moris recieved honorable mention from woodbury.

Who were the best players from each team? We all hear about Callie Dahl and Bethany Brausen but what about girls from say MV or Park?

With out question, Hamner from Forest Lake, this kid is the real deal. Nobody from the other teams really sticks out, at least like Hamner does.

Woodbury: Clare Shaw is only a freshman and probably the best player on that team. She lead them in points. Emily Moris is a very athletic sophomore with a great shot if she has the time to get it off. Alexa Jacobsen and April Weller are both good strong forwards. Courtney Stevens was a senior and lead the forwards in goals.

White Bear Lake: Erin Green in my opinion is the fastest skater in the conference. If any team gave her ten feet of space she would take off and skate around any opposing player in her way to the net. Elsa Bruestle has a very good shot and good hands. Maddie Marcotte is a very solid defender.

MV: The top line produced alot of the goals. Hjelm, Stoltz, and Nyquist worked well together and if they caught you on a bad change they took full adcantage of it. Wedell is there best defender.

Park: Lauryn Morris comes to mind first when i think of park. She had and incredible shot but sometimes needed and extra second to get it off. The forwards that stick out in my mind are Erin Spinks, Mallory Ryan, and Sammy Madison. I know i'm forgeting two good forwards but Spinks and Madison had good size and speed.

CDH: Almost all of the points were scored by Kalli Funk, Fischer, or Mancini. I saw them very early in the season and unfortunatly i don't remember any one player that stood out.

FL: As hansonbrother said Hamner was easily there best player. She had good size and good speed. Her shot wasn't that bad either. She had over double the points of the next player with 36. Anyone who gets 36 points is doing something right.

Hastings: Jordy Klimek and Taylor Reiners stand out in my mind. Reiners has good size and Klimek is very fast. Mackinze Holm also stands out in my mind but not for offensive zone play. She played D zone better than any other defensmen in the conference.

Roseville: Obviously Brausen and Capistrant stick out. However the players who stick out most are Boss and Allen, the goalies. Everyone talks about how much Roseville scores but it was the goalies who won the games for them. They shut down teams and prevented teams from getting any momentum. Boss won more games but Allen had the better save percentage. Two of the top three goalies in the conference.

Stillwater: I saved the state champs for last. Nothing against Callie Dahl as she is a very good player, however i don't think she was the best one on the team. Kristi King and Charpentier stick out most in my mind. Dahl had a great shot and finished the play but King started the play. Cartony and Salmen are also very good players. Sobczak is very overshadowed by her peers. Like the roseville goalies she made big saves to prevent the opposing team to get any momentum.

Let me know what you think and your opinions on each team.

A great overview there are many good players in the SEC - I added a couple who stand out or may next year! I guess almost time for a 2009-10 thread looking forward but many of the players mentioned will return next year with the exception of 2 at Stillwater, 1 at PCG and a few at MV but will much really change next year in conference as far as Conference Standings across these teams?

Stillwater - It would appear Stillwater may be as good or better next year with a powerhouse senior group and a group of younger players who played a lot this year but will have expanded roles - the D which started shaky made big bounds forward. Stillwater won it all this year next year they could run the table though Roseville and Stillwater still seem to be a coin toss.

Roseville - This team likewise schould be stronger next year with key players returning and younger players stepping into larger roles. I think they win conference again.

WBL - 5 on 5 this was a very good team - with a years expereince in goal two strong goalies. Strong D corp - I would add Sam Hanson to the list above she and Marcotte are very good and other 3-4 are very steady. I don't know if they can beat Roseville or Stillwater but if they can reduce and control penalties they will contend and could surprise.

CDH was young and appears to have more strong young players coming in - will be better but will have no experienced varsity goalie?

Woodbury - returns SR Taplin in goal but an 8th grade goalie Katie Ahmann is standing out in spring training I have seen at FHIT in Blaine against some very top HS players - she could share or overtake #1 role next year - this would give WDBY more consistent goaltending which could allow them to steal a few more games. This team will need some more top young players to compete. I would also add Sam Greeley as a very good D to your list. If they coop and have new coach they could move up and maybe finish 4th in SEC.

Forest Lake - Not sure what else there is in addition to Hanmer but she plays most of each game and has impact around the puck. She is a forward in Phase II NDP this weekend - does that mean she is going to move up front next season and maybe score 50 goals to expand on her 29 at D this year? Still hockey is a team game and FL will need to find ways to play a team game to improve over this year.

CDH-not sure how much better they will be depending on what new players come in as their JV was not real good.
Hastings-I think loss of goaltender will hurt but they do get most of team back so they should improve.
Mounds View-I think will take a step back after a great season as they are losing a very productive line.
Park-Should be better depending on what they are losing to woodbury/eastridge co-op.
woodbury-depends on co-op but I would guess they will be a bit better, just not sure they will be able to go over the .500 mark
Forest Lake-Should improve if they get more support around Hanmer. Need to be more balanced.
White Bear Lake-I think they will be the darkhorse next year with virtually the whole team back. They just need to be better finishers and stay out of the penalty box. Goaltending seems to be coming around which will be a big help.
Roseville-My pick to win conference with a great nucleus returning. Solid goaltending and should have 2 very good lines. Defense might be a bit down but still pretty solid.
Stillwater-Should contend again with alot of talent returning. They should have 2 very good lines and should still be able to run 3 on a regular basis. Defense will be much improved and 6 deep and goaltending will be excellent again with their starter back for senior year.

CDH always seemed to have different lines. They were not very consistent in that area. I do think if they wold have stuck with the top three forwards (Funk, Fischer, and Mancini) on the first line they would have done alright. Players need experience with each other and that's the only way to get it.

D in the SEC that should be on your list:

Stillwater: Skoog and Hewes - these two matured a lot over the last season.
Hewes looked like an upper classman in the state tournament. She was smart, composed and very savy with the puck. Skoog started to be more physical and it elevated her game.

Moundsview - If you mention Wedell and don't mention her partner Kramka, then you didn't watch many games. Kramka was not recognized by many because she was a transfer student, but IMO their best defender. They also had Mata and Yoshimura-Rank as a very solid pair. Down the stretch those two D lines played very well.

Chickendance - deception is an important part of the game and you must have been quite a player! Impressive how you even brought up a couple of Stillwater defenders when your only objective was to highlight your daughter. I hope she gets a little playing time at a D3 school, but in a couple of days Wedell can announce which D1 offer she accepted...

Wedell was the defense on the MV team. It didn't matter who her partner was! It's a shame that she wasn't named a candidate for Ms. Hockey

MGHCA lists her at 7 G 9 A. What is she doing next year I know she is a top student and can pick from many schools - is she planing to play hockey anywhere - had heard she was going out east?

LOL...wow, struck a nerve? It's a good thing that you guys are on here to set it straight. Glad you think she was the D, I am sure that with only one D they would have gone far, that's brilliant.

Deception? Puckeater, with one post? Lol, no - just filling in names to the very typical and short list that was offered. Do you not think that Skoog and Hewes deserved mention? Until I mentioned them, no one else had.

I heard she went east Joe, I know she was looking to schools in CT, no doubt D1.

The funny thing is, that whether the others play DIII or not, doesn't matter to me. I wish all the girls the best. It is funny, you guys name drop to start with and then jump me for a legit comment. Someone offers several others and some of you can't handle it. Clearly that makes you right?

I encourage you to watch a few more games next year. You watch as many games as I do in a year and I will likely value your assessment of players. But, we both know neither of those things are gonna happen.

Everyone has different opinions on players. All should be welcome. I also like Hewes and Skoog.

I do like the Roseville girls D's Witwicke, Duellman, Stecklein and Evenson. Forwards Logan and Hanna Brodt who reminds me of young Brausen.

Hastings also has a D Huneke who I thought improved a lot during the season.

Let's not forget my WBL girls who never get mentioned Hiedi Kwapick who scored many key goals and Nicole Schaub who I feel is a very strong Defender and never gets credit she deserves.

I like Forest Lakes Sadie Nelson.

I'm mentioning girls who haven't been mentioned. I agree with most that already have.

As for Wedell MV will miss her and realize how much next year! She is a great hard working intelligent kid who will make whatever team she goes to lucky to have her.

im actually very good friends with Natalie Wedell, she's one of the best role models i've had...she is very excited for next year, i personally think that she is one of the top defensemen in the state, when i'm going against her, i make note of her when she is on the ice

Ms. Wedell is a great kid and player. My comment had nothing to do with whether she is a good kid or player. She will do well playing D1 hockey. Good luck to her.

This was not a criticism or lack of respect for her. There are others in the conference deserving of respect as well.

Others have turned this into a lack of respect issue, not me. I mentioned a bunch of kids and some of you have focused in.
