Re: What is DYNAMO hockey?
If you are referring to Showcase Dynamo....STAY AWAY!!! You would be better off registering in their Showcase Boys/Girls league at the correct level as an individual. They claim that Dynamo is "AA" or just a step below "AAA", which couldn't be anything further from the truth. In actually, their "AAA" is just a step below legit "AAA". Way too much money for the lack of quality competition/coaching.nerve wrote:Does anyone know anything about DYNAMO hockey? What type of players are in it?
Actually it looks like on the Showcase web the 95 Dynamo teams are playing AAA hockey with St Crouix this year? is that right? Now that there are AAA teams everywhere in the next 2 years even the so called legit teams will be watered down which they already are now. Showcase VS Legit AAA When you pay around 4500.00plus to play on your so called real AAA there is no bag for your buck. At that price to much money for not enough practice and ice time. I know you will come back with its' not that much but YES IT IS. Take the Blades, They will be going to Tronto this April, Chicago in May. So you do the math 3 Plane tickets ( Tronto) hotel food Car Plus Chicago. I just looked it is 895.00 to play Showcase AAA 50 hrs of ice or 4500.00 plus for 50 hrs of ice for the so called legit AAA. I don't care how good the coach is, it is not worth $4500.00, in the end, the AAA players from both Legit and not legit will play A hockey together in the fall at there home association. How much money do you want to spend is the bottom line. As for Dynamo it is hit or miss just like any other program out there.
Jerry,
Based on your post it will be hard for you to be objective, BUT...
You don't have to pay $4,500 plus to play on a legit AAA team. On the flip-side, there are families that pay $10,000 plus. Pick your level of entertainment and perceived value.
I know this will come as a shock to you, but some families turn summer tournaments into their family vacations. So , rather than take the kids to Disney or to the lake cabin, they choose to travel to Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Calgary, etc... Simple matter of choice and each family's preference for how they'd like to spend their time and money.
Also, not everyone flies. Amazing, but some people drive! Sure cuts down on the costs.
And, for the truly brave of heart, you can pick a summer program that plays only local tournaments. Wow! For example, the Cyclones/Legacy provide close to 100 hours of summer ice time and play in three local tournaments. They're not one of the top-tier teams (e.g., Blades, Machine, LSS), but they're a legit AAA summer program.
Bottom line, most folks, even in the top tier programs, aren't paying $4,500 plus just for a coach. If you truly believe that, you're two screws short.

Jerry I have a Yugo that I'm selling...interested in buying? It's got 4 wheels just like a Chevy, Ford, BMW, Benz.
You can not really take this stand based on Showcase playing with St. Croix can you?
You say no bang for your buck, what is your experience with AAA/Dynamo?
Like anything you "buy" you have to do your homework, talk to people that have tried the program had the coaching staff. Find out things like how they treat the players, did they learn or was it just smoke and mirrors.
You play your 50 hours of Showcase (where it's 40+ hours of games) for $895 and then ask someone in a program that spends 75 hours working on skills/skating/understanding how to play the game and find out who sees more improvement for their money.

Okay So how long have you been in Hockey? I am 54 years old and have kids playing on an invite AAA team. My kids range in age from 27 down to 12. My point is How much do you want to spend. My 94 birth year son will travel to Tronto and New Jersey and Chicago this year. well over the 4500 dollars I stated. The coaches on a few of the INVITE teams were at one time coaches from SHOWCASE ours beeing one of them. Yes we spend our vacations playing hockey. But don't be fooled or try and blow smoke as if you are going to tronto Chicago this year and the fee 1300.00 to get on the team and all the other stuff INVITE teams are not that cheap. I cannot tell you much about showcase anymore as I have not been on any of there teams in over 15 years. Back then they were good teams. bUT THEN THEY WERE NO REAL aaa CLUBS My whole point is DON"T MAKE ACCUSATIONS ABOUT COACHES THAT YOU DON'T KNOW. To make a statement that showcase coaches dynamo coaches are bad is wrong. again IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO THE COACH IS DON'T JUDGE THEM. and no I don't coach and never have, it's to much fun to watch. Yes I spend well over 4000 a year on summer hockey. SO I KNOW A LITTLE about invite teams and have for the last 15 years and 5 kids that play on them.

You complain about the fact that you are spending "well over $4500"....and yet, you still do!!!Jerry wrote:Okay So how long have you been in Hockey? There are other "legit" invite-level summer AAA options that don't cost $4500+, and you should know if you've been around as long as you say you have. IMO, it's "buyer beware". As a parent, do some research on the coach and the players on the team before investing lots of money.

So, you're spreading out the $4500 over three kids....that makes sense.Jerry wrote:Yes muck but I have 3 kids in AAA all summer not 1 and YOU were the one that stated all showcase / dynamo coaches are bad (Way too much money for the lack of quality competition/coaching.) thats what you said when you don't know the coaches
OK, let me be a little more clear on Dynamo...from MY experiences, I have seen very little quality coaching at the Dynamo level, and the level of play is pretty poor. At the Showcase AAA level, I have seen better coaching (on avg) as well as better talent on the ice. That being said, the quality of both programs (Dynamo and Showcase AAA) has been declining in the past few years as a whole. Sure, you can still find individual cases of good coaching, but what you also see are those good coaches putting together a team than bolting with those kids from Showcase to form an independent AAA team that allows them to have more practice time and taylor their schedule to what they want to do. Showcase doesn't give the coaches much flexibility at all...they just come up with a schedule and give it to the teams.
