WHAT YOU ALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT MOST OF THE TIME IT IS NOT THE PLAYERS DECISION. JUST LIKE ALL OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL PARENTS ITS THERE DECISION AS TO WHERE THEY WANNA SEND THEIR KID TO A SCHOOL.

AS A PUBLIC SCHOOL PARENT IF YOUR KID TOLD YOU THEY WANTED TO GO TO A PRIVATE SCHOOL.. ODDS ARE VERY GOOD YOU WOULD LAUGH INSIDE(PRIVATE SCHOOL HATERS). JUST HOW IT IS. IF YOU THINK YOUR KID IS GOOD ENOUGH TO JOIN THE VARSITY TEAM AT A PRIVATE SCHOOL THEN GO AHEAD AND LET HIM TRY OUT.

NOT SAYING AT ALL THAT PRIVATE SCHOOLS ARE THE BEST. MOST OF U JUST WISH U COULD JOIN IN THE FUN!!

I definitely agree. It shows how competitive imbalance system can be self-correcting, as it so often is.

It's also very refreshing to see high school students who can write coherently on here (wow, that makes me sound old... )

I know at one of the above mentioned schools, you must be admitted as a student first. Athletics plays no part in the decision to admit or not to admit. Believe it or not, that is how it goes.

Entrance exams are standard procedure for private schools. The question becomes how much "flexibility" each school has when considering other talents, such as hockey ability. In this respect it is no different than many top private colleges. If you are a great athlete/hockey player, your chances of getting into a school like Harvard are increased considerably, all other things (like test scores) being equal.

From everything I hear, Breck is a very tough school academically. Once you do get in, they really pile on the homework, and it doesn't matter if you play hockey or not.

You aren't going to get any breaks at STA with regards to schoolwork or workload no matter who you are. If I did everything I was supposed to do, I had anywhere from 1-3 hours of school work every night, not including test nights.

That is the most ridiculous comment a hockey fan can make. Sure those hill murray boys got caught smoking weed. EVERY school has there fair share of athletes who just get by in school and party as hard as they play. Just so you know I go to a public school and I hate private schools as much as the next guy. That is an absolutly disrespectful comment. To say ALL of them are stupid are on drugs is ignorant.

From what I understand Breck is in the process of taking their program apart and bringing the the focus back to academics and a more equal representation of all programs. .... So, the priority seems to be to take the focus OFF hockey. We'll see. As I have stated, Breck has a very active recruiter who, from what hear, basically calls the shots in the program. I see this program imploding at some point. Sad for the kids, good for the competition.

Understood, from the Blake perspective, Fangirl.
But from a Breck perspective, if this is true, it has yet to be realized.
(and you somewhat contradict yourself, when you mention the Breck recruiter.)
Breck's 2008/2009 hockey roster was very wide-reaching, and an obvious result of some aggresive recruiting. I'd certainly be encouraged to see that change, but I am not holding my breath.
Congrats to Blake, though, for putting their priorities in proper order.

I don't know how Breck and all the other metro private schools can play in "A" when all of their players would be "AA" if they went to their community schools. Can you say buying trophies?

The point is not hate, it is the fact that some private schools have an unfair advantage in sports, one that is paid for by the fortunate few. As you point out, most would not make the teams of private schools, that is because some of the best athletes who would have played at their community public "AA" school are playing "down" at a private "A" school. It is like in youth sports, when unscrupulous coaches and parents play their "A" kids in a "B" league so they can kick some butt. At least when hockey players leave their associations to go to Wisconsin to play "AAA" hockey they don't compete with the associations they left, it would be unfair, just as private schools competing with public, especially when they are playing down in class.

Can we seriously not give Breck any respect because they are class A? Sure they could move up and not be as sucessful. Numbers show they don't have to. Breck was and is a very good team. If they weren't they wouldn't have found a way to stop Hanowski. If this topic was "Little Falls: State Champs" then this discussion of them moving up to AA wouldn't exist. Congrats to Breck. Class A has just as much talent as AA.
