Hasn't that subject been beat to death?=Now look at those from MN who are on the USHL list who are also on this list, and vice versa.
I'd say there are a fair number on both lists (which one would expect) and a fair amount of differences (which, I think, is good and also expected based on how the lists are determined).
They're young. The lists will change. Enjoy it. It doesn't last long.
Does anyone know if Jacob Horton from Benilde skated that weekend? I was under the impression he had a broken collarbone.
Ultimately, if you don't skate at the evaluation, how do you make the team? I don't want to seem callous, but if you are not there how can you make the cut. I am not disputing the talent in this young man, just the decision that was made. This throws gasoline on the conspiracy theorists fire.

My understanding was it was broken after the evaluations. I imagine there will be an alternate in St. Cloud either way. Someone else verify that?ctbrow1 wrote:Does anyone know if Jacob Horton from Benilde skated that weekend? I was under the impression he had a broken collarbone.

Horton
CT,
Do you believe that the Horton kid is one of the top 102 players in the 94 birth year, in Minnesota?
That's the question, regardless of his playing or not playing the final weekend of 15's, when he was on the ice at the district tryout and practicing and playing the play-in games, did he earn a spot.
If you know the player, you'd certainly say he belongs, irregardless.

Let's see, Sidney Crosby breaks his collar bone four practices into tryouts for the Penguins and six weeks later someone has a beef when he shows up and is automatically put on the team.
Not that Horton is Sidney Crosby, but all involved (kids, coaches, parents, etc.) know that he is probably in the top ten D-men in the state. He is not a 'bubble kid'.
If I understand, he did participate in early tryouts and broke his collarbone in one of the seeding games for the festival. Coaches probably got enough looks in practices and in the seeding games to determine that he was among District 3's strongest players.
No conspiracy there. If you were a marginal player and got injured --- sorry, but you aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt like Horton did.
It does mean there are politics and personal contacts involved. He wasn't at the Festival which is where the players were told the evaluating, and selecting, would occur.
Call it politics or call it 'doing the right thing'. At the end of the day, does this kid belong there or not?
Yes, a marginal player would not have got this benefit of the doubt.
Were the players told that ALL of the evaluating would go on at the festival? I don't think that is how it works. Was something published to parents that said ALL of the evaluating would go on at the festival? I don't believe so. Does the program have prior history of taking injured players that were highly recommended ---- my bet is yes, this is hockey and gets do get injured from time to time.
I think coaches run practices for several weeks, play some seeding games, and provide the A15 program with their 'watch lists' based on what they saw going into the festival. If a coach had someone who was very talented who got injured, I would believe they could put a word in for that player. In this case they did.
Had a very marginal player been injured and still selected and there was an over involved parent visibly working the process/coaches/evaluators --- I would call that politics and bad for the A15 program. Don't see that here.
