EastRidge HS

Post by goalzilla »

Does anyone know how teams are going to handled for the new East Ridge and Woodbury? Are they going to field 2 seperate teams or a coop between the 2 schools. Also since EastRidge is a new school and should they have their own team, will students be able to transfer and not have to sit out a year?

I understand Woodbury and Eastridge will Coop for 2 years beginning next fall the team would play out of Bielenberg while Cottage Grove will continue though lose any Eastridge students not yet seniors. Seniors would stay at Cottage Grove as Eastridge will not have any seniors next fall. This coop will be pretty young have a few top young players including two top defenders Clare Shaw and Sam Greeley. Woodbury has seniors Alexa Jacobsen and goalie Jess Taplin. Ultimately Eastridge will have a high percentage of the younger girls playing in Woodbury Club - Woodbury HS may have challenges with numbers post coop.

In the case of a current player for Woodbury attending either Eastridge or Woodbury who has played as a 9th grader would not be able to transfer without sitting out.

With the boys job being recently posted on the MSHSL site and no girls posting I'm guessing that Joe is right and that's consistent with the rumors that I've heard as well.

See "Coaching Positions" thread this is an open position as Woodbury Staff has stepped down. Great opportunity for someone.

It's an excellent opportunity. Woodbury has a great group of girls and i'm sure the four coming from Park are good girls as well. Woodbury has great leadership in Alexa Jacobsen as well as Sam Greeley. With Clare Shaw on the team how could anyone turn this one down.

Things are in flux.....sounds like the Woodbury-Eastridge Coop is off or moving that way. New option is moving to a Park CG-ER and a Woodbury-Eastridge Coop with kids returning from Eastridge to thier youth program of origin. So basically kids who were at Woodbury stay at Woodbury and kids at Park stay with Park.

Might only be a replacement coach hired for Woodbury vs. Co-Head coaches as some thought for the Woodbury-Eastridge Coop.

As you can tell I am a woodbury student. From what i hear from girls who play with the park girls during summer hockey if the ER-Wood co-op went through they wouldn't play for them. It seems childish to me but i would probably react the same way if i were in there shoes. However at this point it seems to be the most fair so one team wouldn't be so stacked.

I don't know all the details but essentially if this current discussion goes through there would be no change - Woodbury HS would draw from same group as this year as would Park CG. Woodbury would find a new coach and somewhere down the road ...2 Years a new EastRidge Girls HS program would start under a new coach. Nothing in concrete but that appears to be the direction.

It is to bad there are not the numbers to start a third program in girls HS hockey but I am sure the future will be bright as both CG and WDBY have been working hard to build their girls numbers at the youth level.

??

CG and WB have 6 teams of 8th graders through 12th (2 u14s, 2 JVs, 2 varsity). Plus, there is a U19B Cottage Grove team listed on the CGYHA website. I doubt that team was all CG/Woodbury kids, but there are easily numbers to fill 6 teams (JV and Varsity) if the U14 and U19 teams are eliminated.

Very few AA programs can fill a full JV, varsity and U14 program.

Good points I don't know the numbers as well as you but a few items that may be in play.

The U14 in WDBY was a coop with Hastings.

Traditionally both CG and WDBY have lost kids to Hill Murray (maybe 9 currently across V and JV?) and maybe also Cretin Derham Hall (1 or 2 presently?).

The U19B team is one of only about 6 in the Twin Cities it may have some kids out of these school districts and at least one post grad.

Also I suppose it comes down to where these kids live with the new school boundries.

I haven't heard anything on coaches but they have it all figured out granted the district board passes it. Basically if you live in cottage grove and go to eastridge you will play for park. If you live in woodbury and go to eastridge you'll play for woodbury. This all has to be passed by the district so it's not official yet.

I don't have any official info., but, I don't believe this is possible by MSHSL rules. From what I understand one HS (in this case Eastridge) can't have players playing at more than one other HS (in this case Park & Woodbury). The only choice would be to co-op or form an affiliate agreement I believe with a single other school (not multiple).

The only way around this MSHSL rule to allow what appears to be proposed for the school board to consider based on earlier posts - that I can see - is if they use the aspect of the transfer rule that allows a student that transferred to play at their HS from the year prior??? But this would be a one-year work-around at best using this aspect of the "transfer rule" and these aren't really even transfers - especially the incoming freshmen that this wouldn't even really be applicable to.

You would think they would want to start taking care of this situation ASAP since the open window to work with the high school players starts in less than a month. To get coaches in place, ice times reserved and maybe games scheduled would take some time.

Many co-ops are multiple schools. The St Paul Blades for example is a co-op of 8 schools with a combined enrollment of 7672 students (Co-op 407). The Buffalo Bison (co-op 69) is a co-op of five high schools. There are many many others that are more than two schools. You are correct on the possibility of the transfer rule being both iffy and only for one year.

There is also the awkward situation of arch-rivals (Park and Woodbury)going to the same school (East Ridge). But I certainly hope it works out for the girls and that they have a timely and fun atmosphere to play.hockey

I think what the question is was how can you send kids from 1 school Eastridge to different coops 1) Woodbury-Eastridge & 2) PCG-Eastridge

All i'm saying is that was what was decided at the meeting. They will have to be approved with the MSHSL but as of now that it what was decided.

Id like to think that the administration would have had some consultation with the MSHSL prior to presenting this as an option at a community meeting. which it sounds like they did. Stranger things have happened.

It doesn't sound like anyone knows what the outcome will be, but when people speculate and present it as if they are privy to inside information, it sure fuels rumors within what is probably already a difficult situation for many families. It seems that until the school board and the MSHSL make a final deciaion everything else is simply rumor.

Until there is official word from the MSHSL & School board I agree all of this is rumor as to what the final outcome will be. The result of the public meeting aren't shocking to me as I've seen this sort of thing before when other teams have been divided, or considered co-oping, etc. The St. Paul public schools co-op was a tough situation in this respect some years ago.

SECoach.... I also agree whole-heartedly with you but was wondering if you ever figured out which team would be "stacked" in a co-op situation ....A wise man once said " In our efforts to be fair let's not be stupid "....,Maybe that should be amended to include " let's not jump to conclusions ".... By the way, is it just me or do the rules seem to be a moving target ?....I was told in January that dual co-ops were not a possibility, now they're all the rage....In the poitically correct society we now reside NOBODY actually KNOWS anything at all....Just a Badmans opinion ......

Where else are they doing or considering a dual coop outside of the Woodbury-East Ridge- PCG?
