7AA report--12/16/05

Post by boblee »

The Way I See It:
1. Elk River Elks-Defeated Andover to move to 3-0. Beat a solid Blaine team, also Anoka. Seem to be very balanced and have plenty of depth.
2. Grand Rapids Thunderhawks-3-0 in the section. Had a week where they played poorly and dropped 2 games. Very good top first line, plenty of defense and very high quality goaltending. HUGE test tonight.
3. Cloquet Lumberjacks-Started a little slow, certainly heating up. Johnson, Stevie Mo very good forwards. A couple good defensemen and a great goaltender in Ellingson. Tough Loss at Grand Rapids, big wins over WBL and East.
4. Brainerd Warriors-Played very good against both Forest Lake and Grand Rapids. One very high quality forward line. Peltoma and Sneep, very good, Whichello too inconsistent.
5. Duluth East Greyhounds-Might be just starting slow. Can't generate much offense, but play good defense. Good goaltending in Ben Leis and good coaching, expect them to move up.
6. Forest Lake Rangers-Beat Brainerd and lost to Grand Rapids. They will slowly come around. Fogerty, Woodward and Kubes very good. Above average goalie, Burris, will have to keep them in games.
7. Andover Huskies-Held their own against Elk River, they only lost 6-2. Not a bad team overall, need work, could be a first round threat.
8. Cambridge Bluejackets-Showing some offense this year. Goldsmith back having another quality showing in his senior year. The team may hover around .500, however play a very weak schedule.
9. St. Francis Fighting Saints-Good hockey team-shows the depth of the section. They can score and they can keep the puck out of the net. Expect them to go about .500, and win the play-in game. Good goaltending and maybe enough offense to challenge the one seed, a little bit.

_________________

BOB
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >boblee at: 12/16/05 12:39 pm

Very early in the season, very easy to get overly excited, but either way, if form held, could you imagine DE not having a home first rounder? That would be fun. I'd be rooting for a 2 or 3 seed then.

Majin

Whats ER got this year? I thought they were lucky to get to state last year but don't like to see them move into an already fiercely competitive 7AA...

The only thing I disagree with Boblee's rankings is Brainerd being #4 instead of #6. I think Brainerd might be a better team, but the fact of the matter is they lost to Forest Lake, and they don't yet have a quality win in 7AA to override that. You can rank them based on talent, but in the end, it's wins and losses that decide things for the brackets in Feb. That's also why right now CEC cannot be ranked higher than GR. Sure, CEC seems to be on a roll right now, but it's head to head that matters. If CEC wins the rematch, then obvioulsy you compare their 7AA games like Elk River, East, etc.

GR19 pays better.

ER is playing all the patsys down in the TC. They need to come north and play 'REAL' hockey. That's what I read somewhere on this forum, anyway.

But GR did beat CEC. CEC is palying the best right now. ER is playing well also, so we will see what the next go around of games bring.
